Have been using the Motul 300V and OWS 5W-60 on RTR. Both have been brilliant. Riding 3-4 hrs non stop at throttle wide open is no longer an issue. Somehow felt Shell helix deteriorates after 3-4k kms which isn't the case with Motul and OWS. I am able run close to 8k before the psychological side takes over and I change the oil n oil filter. RTR has done a little over 1.3 lakhs kms [emoji4]

Motul 300V is 15w-50 spec and the oem recommended oil is 10w-30. How much of an impact will it have?Originally posted by krish2778 View Post

Avoid mineral oils, liquid cooled bike heat up quite a lot and mineral oils just don't cut it, use Synthetic, preferbly Fully Synthetic(FS).
Honda FS oil is more than enough for normal rides/commutes/tours.
If you are into heavy duty riding/touring, get the Shell FS oil (Cheaper, but suits very well) or the Motul FS 7100/300V (Costlier, but is worth it)

Re: Honda CBR 250R
Using a thicker after winter number helps the oil to be more viscous under extreme temperatures. But using a 50 in place of 40 isn't gonna hurt much. Thicker oils do stress the engine making it work even harder for a given rpm, which in turn induces heat and more wear. There is a reason why Honda recommends w40, each engine is designed specifically with its oil viscosity to performance ratio.Originally posted by n.krishna.p View PostMotul 300V is 15w-50 spec and the oem recommended oil is 10w-30. It isn't to say using a thicker grade would hurt the engine, per se, but when manufacturers recommend a specific grade there is a reason as to why.
Air cooled are a different breed, they thin and vapour almost all the best oils, some even more, but that again depends on how hard you are with your motorcycle.

The higher grade will help in more lubricating feature, but if it goes too high it creates more resistance as the viscosity is much higher than needed and does the exact opposite of what it should. Since the engine anyways heats a good deal the 15w50 actually helps in running the engine cooler, it might get slightly sluggish until the bike warms up but i guess it doesn't even matter really. We should always let the bike settle in before riding it.Originally posted by n.krishna.p View PostMotul 300V is 15w-50 spec and the oem recommended oil is 10w-30. How much of an impact will it have?

The OEM stays together for the said 6k kms and even with high spirited touring involved, but honestly towards the end of the 4k mark, teh engine seems to get rough a little, like the smoothness has reduced a bit, though its nothing to get pissed about , the smoothness you are used to feels absent.
Long term review on the Shell FS is also very much favorable , as you can always go for that instead, cheaper on the pocket and gives performance on par with the 300v.

Ah lucky you man. Well, enjoy the MRFs! Any idea how long I can go on the Contigos before they start showing problems?Originally posted by B7ACKTHORN View PostIt all depends on which month of the year your bike was manufactured, buddy. This was exactly reason why I checked my VIN number for the year and month of manufacture. You might have gotten the older models.
Fact of the matter, is I've always really wanted a year-end made Ceeber, considering, so that all the upgrades would be done and dusted. And the waiting paid its worth. I was told by a few reliable chaps, the the rubber were upgraded to MRF, post newer paint scheme was introduced mid 2014, eventually Honda changed the rubber to MRF, a few months after that.
Cheers!

I was also thinking about stickering the visor matte black after reading about it on the RC390 forum. Can anyone help with that? How do I go about it and is the effect good?

MRF tire Review in short- If you are coming from Stock Continental, You will find Nirvana in these.
Its been 3 days without even a slight fishtailing/ scary moments (Mine is NON ABS). Suddenly I find cornering easy on CBR. So the Conti was just making it worse for the already bad handler, the CBR is.HH Dawn - TVS Star City - Yamaha Gladiator - TVS RTR 180 - Honda CBR 250R - Yamaha R3

Re: Honda CBR 250R
Hello guys
My bike has done 10k and I have replaced rear brake pads 6 months ago. Now the front ones are making hissing noises. I think I have to replace them too. Can anyone tell me how much it costs? I think the backones costed 2000. Don't remember since my brother got them done and lost the bill

I understand you own it so you "know" the bike. But I'll still say that CBR's handling is terribly underrated. At least I would say that it's one of the best handlers upto the 250/300cc segment... the suspension needs little sorting and better tyres... and it can kick serious ass ... Be proud

Right. And I am proud of my possession. Its not for the track and I dont expect it to be razor sharp aswell. Its doing what it does best - Comfortable and Tourable.... But the R15/Duke are anyday better cornering machines. Even My RTR corners better :P .Originally posted by Satellite.kid View PostI understand you own it so you "know" the bike. Re: Honda CBR 250R
I guess, Honda has taken a good approach replacing them Contigos with MRF, I hope to see them in both the STD and ABS models. But I find the ABS models quite sexy compared to the Bybre, the way the caliper cables and hoses attach to the front wheels and the rear, gives it an uber-premium feel, but that's just my view point. Personally, if you ask me, the baby blade looks excellent with the stock visor, matte or any other stickering really spoils the party, again, my two cents.Originally posted by shortrider26 View PostAh lucky you man. @sambit, for someone downgrading to CBR from Duke 390 like me, the performance is a sea change, especially if you appreciate torque in the Duke. The CBR does things at her own pace, and this engine always loves to be revved past 5k, not less than that, whereas you have excellent torque all the way low down on Duke and the chassis on the Duke is simply brilliant. Again "DO NOT" try to corner in the CBR like you corner with the 390. The suspension on the CBR is too soft but brilliant and takes in potholes like a butter on a knife, simply brilliant for touring and that motor is such a gem of an engine, excellent linear power delivery, but all up above post 5k anything less and the bike hates it.
Consider this, the CBR is a hot high-street chic girl whereas the Duke is a Manhattan ghetto thug.
Cheers!

Regarding this, as I am new to biking, to what level can the CBR corner. Not really sure how to frame this question, at what speeds can I take turns?Originally posted by B7ACKTHORN View PostAgain "DO NOT" try to corner in the CBR like you corner with the 390.Last edited by shortrider26; 02-27-2015, 11:21 AM.

Re: Honda CBR 250R
Dont worry about that- its upto you to know your limitations. You will eventualy learn by experience. Take it slow and just dont go out of your comfort zone during initial stages.Originally posted by shortrider26 View Post

Re: Honda CBR 250R
Hey All,
So My bike is 4 (2011 August) years old now I kind of didn't took care of the body work properly there are lot scuffs and scratches now so obvoiusly I wanna repaint the whole body sounds like bad idea but I have no choice it looks really sad by the way its black and silver colored as of now. I have always been black color liking guy I had Fz which was black and green so anyways I'm planning to repaint it to black with Bronze alloys reason being if any crash etc you can just replace the parts with black ones.
On the other hand I like the tricolor also And repsol edition is little bit in your face kind of thing.
Just wanted to check anybody has seen any custom paint jobs anywhere on CBR just want to get some inspiration ....
