It comes complementary with set of two phillips headlights meant for cars.(confirmed for phillips crystal vision).

I had hard time to find phillips w5w alone, not available near my residence area and online too. Finally got it in thane (mumbai)near 3 petrol pump area. Cost 110 INR.

Guys, just on a knowledge basis, how much would it cost to repair a bike which has stopped working due to rain water entering?

          • Speedo console LED Backlight restored!

People who own the first lot of CBR 250R's (2013 & prior) might be familiar with this problem of Speedo LED flickering or gone rogue. This was due to faulty LED's sourced by Honda. For those who had warranty were lucky and they could get the console replaced. However the downside was the kms in the Odo will be reset as a new console is fitted.

I started facing this issue almost the start of 2015. The right part of the LED display wouldn't lit up properly and the left side completely blacked out. So it was a headache that i wont be able to keep a tab on my fuel level considering i do night rides a lot. At first i was desperate to change the console but hearing the cost of the console (~Rs.6200) and the downside i was not keen on doing it. I was looking for DIY to fix this. Found this video in you tube in which the guy replaces the LED's in the board.

I was waiting for a right moment. I kept asking my mechanic for a good electrician so that he can do it with out damaging the board while soldering. I had an soldering experience during my school days as i was into electronics those days. But i had been almost 7 years since i soldered. So i was a bit scared if i would damage the board. Time flew and it was irritating without the back-light and i decided to do it myself after all the research.

Ordered the SMD LED's from Ebay. The ones that are present in the console(Stock) are SMD 3528. But they were not available in small quantities in Ebay and i ended up finding that SMD 2835 white can also be used and are a little brighter than the 3528. So i decided to go for the SMD 2835. They costed me Rs.125 for 50 LED's. Finally it arrived today.

I was a bit nervous about the process as if anything goes wrong the board will be useless and i wont be able to even start her until a new console comes in. Gathered all the courage. Brushed up my soldering skills a bit. Soldered the first LED very badly as you can see it in the picture. I actually ended up using the wrong soldering tip rather than a pointed tip. Realized my mistake and soldered the second one better. I wanted to check if everything was going well. So i plugged in the board and switched her on. She was ohk and i was relieved. Except the first LED that i badly soldered didn't glow.

The twist was i didn't think it would be so bright when compared to the stock ones. It was like they are gonna blind my eyes. I really thought its gonna be a eyesore while riding by the brightness as seen in pic. Look at the difference in the pic. The stock doesn't even look like its glowing when compared to the brightness of the newly replaced LED(they were actually not glowing to their full potential, would be a little brighter than this literally). As I had no choice i proceeded ahead. Took it back and soldered other two, re-soldered the first one and made sure they all were perfect.

When i hooked the board and switched her on they all were glowing very bright this time. I was excited to see how the display looks through the polarized filter. Put the console all together as quickly as possible and switched her on. To my surprise they were cool ocean blue, better than the stock(personal preference, i really like them) but brighter to an extent that now the Tacho looks faded :P Since i had no issue with the Tacho back-light didn't replace those LED's. Now i feel that i should have replaced them too. But I'm happy as i'm able to read the display clearly now.

The whole process took roughly 2 hours 40 mins of my time and the money spent was just for the LED's. DIY satisfaction is enormous
Sorry about the bad picture quality. As i was more into the fixing thing my mind didn't think of the pic quality nor framing, focusing. Sorry!

Sorry, for not being more specific. I had to ride my cbr in the rains today, and had to wade through knee deep water which covered the exhaust fully. At one point the front number plate was also covered with water. The engine sound changed, sounded like it was drowning, but I gunned the engine and exited that road without any further problems. Nothing is wrong with my bike, just had a question - what if water had entered the engine through the air intake or exhaust, and the vehicle gets stranded. What is the procedure to repair it, and how much does it usually cost?

well if you exited out and everything is working then be happy. just park it in sunlight for whole day. any left over moisture should vanish with time
however the only place water could enter inside is the air filter box. which is quite high.

if you talk bout running engine and that much deep water and it really getting in then lemme tell you a few things which i assume will happen.
at that height you will burn the wiring and the rectifier as it sits a little lower than the air filter box. water seeping inside the hot engine will end up making steam for initial few strokes which will blow the gasket packing first easily and it might also kill the piston, connecting rod and few more stuff.

basically you are lucky if just the gasket blows and electrical s survive else you are looking at a big big bill.
water cannot enter through the exhaust unless its deep and really gushing and bad luck if the exhaust valve is also sitting open when the engine shuts off.

if its just in the exhaust it will anyways come out and steam off with some riding. also there is a drain hole at the bottom of every motorcycle exhaust. the moment you are out it will drain out.

Since you have come out of water with engine running, you are good to go. If water had entered the engine then engine would have had "Hydro Lock" and engine would have been a goner. You did right in keeping throttle high and rode out of water quickly...
                  Good Luck.

Guys. My bike is a 2012 abs cbr 250. Yesterday i was out for a short ride and after about 30 kms on the highway when i applied the brakes. The lever just came full to the throttle. There was no brakes. The lever was like clutch. The rear brake pedal too. It also went fown fully. I somehow managed to avoid accident and stopped by downshifting to 1st gear slowing the bike down and using the engine kill switch. After about 5 mins. The brakes were back. What could be the problem? ? It was scary.

                      Hi backlash4u,

Good thing you have stopped without any mishap. I exactly don't know the root cause of this issue, but at similar situation you can pump the brake lever faster to have some stopping power. I had faced this issue in an car(Alto) once but as you said it vanished after 5-10 mins. Let's hope you will not be in similar situation again.

Also let others know when was last time you have changed the brake fluid, it might help them to provide some solution.
                      -----------------------------------

Now an update of my own Beast , my clutch cable required replacement as it's hanging on its last string. I have made the showroom manager to order that cable for me and am waiting to change it for the past one month. Since I have already stretched the cable too much I have gone for a temporary solution of using inner from local spare parts shop for time being. Total cost 15 Rs.(inner string alone 10 Rs, adjustor 5 Rs and labour 0 Rs as it's a DIY)

                      Old cable just hanging.

Air in brake lines. Bleed both brake lines with DOT4 brake oil. In the meanwhile, check the condition of both brake pads.

Most probably Air in hydraulic actuation system..Bleed and fill the Brake oil with DOT4 ..sometimes oil older than 2yrs give the same effect...with ignition and engine in OFF condition, check if the lever comes all the way to the throttle grip, and also check when ignition switch ON condition if same happens....If same happens in OFF condition, suspect air in system. If it happens when ignition switch is on , suspect ABS unit misbehaving....

Just a wild thought. I rarely use my rear brakes. I just dont use it at all. I use 100% front brakes. Could it be that my brother might have used it and the air must have entered the system from there due to the combi brake thing??? Discard if it's a stupid idea....

My bike had a problem with the brakes. When applied gradually it would just push all the way to the throttle but when pulled in quickly it would work properly. I had to get the master cylinder replaced for this issue. Not sure if this helps.
