  • Re: Honda CBR 250R

AI know the dangers of modding my bike, like repercussions, but it's just for testing, I make sure I change my engine oil every 3000km .Also would like to know the pros and cons of air filters like K&N ,BMC, I know its a performance filter let's in more dust to ur engine but I want to know if anyone has done any such mods? Also would like to know the best aftermarket LED headlights for the bike?

Braking Habit: My usual is 70% front and 30% rear. During panic/emergency braking, i cut down the gears (2/3 gears for extreme situations), use the same 70:30 ratio, and this is when the rear locks and slides out, never the front, but only the rear. This behaviour has been consistent from the old Conti tyres to the Michelin upgrade, before the piston ring change to the present condition.

Rotor condition: The rear rotor is well within specs and doesnt need replacement for atleast another 20K kms (i got paranoid and asked the mech to measure it in my presence with a gauge). I do see circles on the rotor, but they're not really deep ones, rather like surface pitting.

Brake lever: Absolutely no feedback, feels wooden. The rear lever has only about 1.5 inches of function (meaning, the operational travel for the lever is ~1.5 inches, and if i push more, the wheel locks up)

Brake oil: upgraded to DOT 4 about 4 months back.

Tyres: Changed it when the odo read ~12K kms, still has a lotta life left. Front is Michelin Pilot Street Radial and rear is Pilot Sporty (non radial)

      Current odo reading: 30K kms.

Concerns: My main concern/paranoia is that the previous owner did not send the bike when it was recalled for brake issues.

I love the vehicle for it's comfort and long distance usability, and want to own and take care of it till one of us bite the dust. I wouldnt mind upgrading the entire system, if that would be advisable.
Well, even my 2012 Dec CBR also fishtails every time I lower the gears in panic braking. My motorcycle did not qualify for the braking upgrade Honda announced because by then they rectified the issue.

What I do to about the fishtailing/wobbling is, whenever I see a patch of sand, I lower the gear, just to make the rear screech and wobble momentarily. Its nice to hear. The bike will never fall.

At high speed, I do not lower the gears, just stomp the rear brake, and pump the front. No wobbling then.

I have heard people saying never run a front radial and rear non radial. At least the vice versa is ok. I don't know why precisely. But I believe the front grip matters only when cornering and the rear is that matters most of the time. I recently changed both my tyres to mrf radials and found the grip amazing both dry and wet (but gravel grip is pathetic yet). When is due for a change go for radial and see the difference yourself.

I'm considering changing to mrf radials.... But there is a good 4500-5000 difference between it n Michelin, may I know the pros n cons of both tyres?

Simple. Mrf is locally manufactured and suits best for Indian road conditions. During to import Michelin highly priced and it needs some temperature on it for the real grip. On Hill/ghat roads Michelin could be less grippy due to cold temp. In track it may shine better than mrf for sure. I had used both.

Yes, sman. Radials are any day better than cross ply tires that are installed on the bike, only Zapper series in MRF are radials rest are all cross ply tires. Radials do provide very good ride comfort, grips levels are improved noticeably. Cross ply are good for scooters, but with the current breed of motorcycles hitting our shores, it's good a good idea to swap to radials, whenever we get the chance.

              Cheers!

Today I went to Honda showroom & had a long chat with the manager. He revealed that the CBR250R production is finally discontinued. Last remaining units are being sold out.

He also said that we may expect CBR300R to hit showrooms within 3 months time!

Seriously!? This is like, during childhood asking your mom that why had the pants gone short not knowing that you grew up.

Possibilities are change in suspension setup or tyre air pressure. If the suspension is set to softest when you sit on the bike, it may lower than the stock setup if you are heavy. If the air pressure is less then its the same.

                            Air pressure may b reason!

Guys I have a query, does the CBR not go past 8500-9000rpm in 6th gear? It redlines at every other gear except 6th , is this normal? I'm about 6ft 2 and weigh 90kgs, soo obviously that's a reason but I'd like to know in a stock setup anyone similar to my weight and height? Managed to past 150kmph?

I weigh less than you, still mine cannot cross 8.5 to 9k rpm in 6th gear, as easily as it does in rest of the gear. That's because 6th gear is a over drive, and it's used to keep the vehicle in higher speed with lesser engine rpm to improve fuel efficiency further more.

Having said that sometimes I feel that cbr requires one more gear like hyper drive to increase its fuel efficiency further more.
