  • Re: Honda CBR 250R

I visited the svc where the current owner used to service his cbr as the svc is very close to my home.
I requested the Service manager to check on service history and if any claims were made.

Turns out, only two services have been done in the last 13 months/4500 kms which includes two long trips of 1600km and 900 km. Chain slider has been changed twice in the last 4500kms, which as per svc is due to poor maintenance and riding style.

Warranty cover is doubtful, svc manager says if there are no existing issues in the engine there should be no problem.

The agreed price is 1.4lacs, I would like to know if it's worth the risk. We didn't take a long test ride only 400mtrs and engine felt smooth.

It sounds that your seller was a racing freak who moved out of touring or onto a bigger bike. Check with the engine as ASC said, and I pray it'll be fine. It doesn't sound like anything malicious in here, as per your description.

I did some desi jugaad, heated the pipes of the number plate and turned it little upwards. Now the plate does not touch the mudguard.

In more than 1 year, the owner has only completed 2 service, this will be more than enough reason for Honda to deny any warranty. Though CBR is a strong machine and should not be giving you issues. I think its very much the worth the risk for 1.4

I too just picked up one for 1.5 - 2015 model with only 4463 KMs on board. Its a Repsol Edition.

just check the engine thoroughly. there shouldn't be any shim noise (ticking noise) .
i think this is the most common issue with CBR, although can be rectified.
so just have a look for it.
another thing to look for is clutch action and suspension, both front and rear one. you will get a better idea of it by checking the balancing of bike itself.

just in case you find any such issues, it might help you in bringing down the price.

There are some posts regarding the license plate hitting the fender issue, I really wonder why it is happening. The gap between the fender and the license plate is much more adequate for that to happen(at least in my bike).

I can guess only 2 possible reason, either the number plate holder is bent such that it sits lower than the stock setup or the front suspension is travelling to far which means it has to be checked/serviced.

Can those who has this issue check on the same, and a pic will of course help very much

Guys, we made a new addition to the family garage in addition to duke 200 & fzs fi. Bought a pre-owned cbr 250 July 2015 which had 4600kms. I will post the pictures post service this weekend.

I had some questions, will be getting the first paid service done tomorrow. The previous owner had done only 2 services in the last 13 months (4500kms).

What should be checked considering the poor maintenance. The chain slider is broken will be getting it changed.

Also, do ktm's front and rear steel braided brake lines are a direct fit?

As advised in this thread earlier, do check for shim noise which is the most common problem. If the bike was poorly maintained i suggest you to check out the thread by the name "The story so far- My CBR250R" by shv18. It contains all the possible problems and solutions. Not sure of ktm's steel braided lines though. Do keep updating in this thread. Congrats on your purchase!

                  Hi guys,

Need your help. I am not able to understand what shim noise is abs how is it diagnosed in CBR.

I was also looking for front mudguard extender so that there is no water splash on shoes and engine. Also for the rear tyre what the option as the mudguard seems in adequate and lot of muck flys on the pillion.

Shims are a part of the valve system. However your bike is new, i believe its only run 4500kms. So you don't need to worry about the shims as of now. However search YouTube and you will get many videos on shim noise. Shim noise is something like a rattle inside the engine. My bike had some rattle when i revved it to 4k rpm and i thought its the shims but turned out to be the timing chain tensioner which was changed under warranty.
The rear tyre doesn't splash muck on the pillion in my bike. I have ridden in rains but nothing reaches the pillion. See if you can get the tyre hugger from some other bike like RC installed. The front does splash water onto the feet and also on the radiator. Someone had done the front fender extender mod by using some other bike's fender i guess. Search for it.
