A peculiar problem
Hello everyone, I got my CBR250R on October 5th and I've really enjoyed it! The first service was done on 4th November. However, since the very first day and even after service, I've noticed there is a peculiar "bobbing" motion when the bike is running. It's subtle, but at lower speeds it's quite apparent. On any and every type of road the bobbing motion is constant, with the same frequency. Is this normal or can anything be done about it? Everything else is just fine

Ideally you shouldn't use a 20Wxx oil where temperatures are that low. It'll be too viscous to lubricate. Anyway, experienced people like PSR Ji and all will be able to comment in a better way.Originally posted by wazz View PostHii guys i need help here.
I got the oil filter but i did not get the 10w30 oil so i used 20w50 oil yesterday. and today morning the bike could not be started by any means. is it because of the oil change?? and for information the outside temperature was around negative 5 degree.
thanks in advance. You are not a chemical. So think before you react.

this is the pic i have taken from my owner mannual its not clear .
if you want to go throught the mannual then for cold areas like north india you have to use 10W30 but it you are from south side then you can use 20W50 but most sutible eingen oil for cbr is 10W30.

Pardon me if you have already checked this, but it could be the air pressure, Kindly check the air pressure first(Manual recommends 29front and 29 rear for solo, and 29,31 for pillion). If the problem still persists, we can discuss further.Originally posted by Lux Aeterna View PostHello everyone, I got my CBR250R on October 5th and I've really enjoyed it! by bobbing motion do u mean that the bike moves as if the front wheel is loose and the bike wobbles left right? because i had the same problem and also had a stiff handle soi showed it to the mechanic in the honda service station... he said its a front fork tuning issue and fixed it within half an hour(for free).Originally posted by Lux Aeterna View PostHello everyone, I got my CBR250R on October 5th and I've really enjoyed it! I went for the first servicing today. Waited 30-40 mins for my number to come and then the mechanic tells me that the oil filter is not available. He told he had brought 4 of them but they got used up in other bikes. He tells me to get the bike next week for the 1st service. but i have already completed 600kms and by next week it will be around 800. Isnt that too late for the 1st service and puls today i noticed that the engine oil is below the 'min' mark. I need to replace the oil fast. So should i wait for the next weekend or fill up the oil tomorrow itself and ask them to not include the oil change in the service. Please give your valuable advice. and also please recommend which oil should be used.

not an issue you car ride your bike till 1000 km to 1200 km and then go for 1st service.Originally posted by harsh_66328 View Postby bobbing motion do u mean that the bike moves as if the front wheel is loose and the bike wobbles left right? because i had the same problem and also had a stiff handle soi showed it to the mechanic in the honda service station... he said its a front fork tuning issue and fixed it within half an hour(for free).

may be the engine oil level is low just check it properly your bike need to be straight then only you can check the proper level of engine oil just tell some one to hold your bike properly then see the level .
last week i was checking oil level of my cbr and i was shoked to see level on minimum but next day checked it properly and it was on max so no prob check it properly.
if then also its level is low then wait for oil filter to come then change both at same time.
you can use 10W30 FS engine oil recommanded by HMSI.Hero Honda Karizma: 2008 - SOLD

Yep, the air pressures are just fine, I've checked. By bobbing I mean up and down, as if the road is not smooth, even if it is. As I said the frequency remains same no matter the road or speed. Could it be a suspension problem? While riding I feel it and it's not just limited to the front, but the whole bike. Imagine riding on a road with little speed bumps at regular intervals, that's how it feels, but subtler.Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

Laquer coat isnt used now-a-days by manufacturers. Base coat and clear coat are used.Originally posted by ROCKRZ View Postheat is damaging to the laquer coat... so never EVER USE WARM WATER. the bike will lose the shine much earlier than you expect.
Anyways, yes, try not to use warm water. Infact, water wash the bike as less frequently as you can. And absolutely not when the engine is hot. Use a good wax so that you wont need to wash the bike that frequently..
Oil level shouldn't be low ideally for a bike done just 600kms. Check the oil level again when the bike is cold and not started for atleast 2-3 hours, holding the bike straight. Take someone to help if needed. I dont think servicing at 800kms is much of a problem. Honda recommends at 1000. Use the oil that your ASC recommends. Preferrably honda's 10w30. No extra gain is better than any harm. But do get the oil filter changed with the oil.Originally posted by harsh_66328 View Postbut i have already completed 600kms and by next week it will be around 800. My experience with the CBR
Here is my experience with the bike.
Bought the bike from City Honda, Bangalore. I just felt the Sales person was a lot better than the two or three other honda showrooms I went to close to my place. The person was good and helpful. I booked the bike after taking a test drive, thereafter the sales person showed me the three Red STD bikes he had, allowed me to start each of them, check them and then test ride the one I chose before making the payment
. I then noted down the chassis number and was told that if I make the payment by DD, I can get it within 24 hours and I did.
Now, I have been a bullet rider( bullet machismo brand new) for the last 10 years, before I sold it sometime back. With due respect to all the bullet lovers, I for some reason, just lost total interest and love for the bike. I personally feel that change is important, like tata, I think there is not much that has changed as far as the Bullet is concerned. but this is purely my personal opinion. I know there are a lot of bullet lovers who dig the bike, so no offense to anyone. Anyway, after the bullet, I had no intentions of getting any other bike, but moving onto a car. I am 6.3 and weight in at about 100 thanks to heavy duty weight training, so all the other Indian bikes is something that I do not even look into, well, till the time the CBR came in. I remember, I was parking my bike at my older gym when I saw the CBR for the first time. I did not know anything about this bike (like I said, I was not interested in bikes any more) but just thought it looked great. I mean really great, atleast from a distance and at that time (around june, 2011), I thought it was one of those expensive superbikes and forgot about it. Then I saw it again a couple of times and everytime, felt really good seeing it. So I just casually, googled the damn thing
and saw that this is like the latest offering in India from Honda. Now I also own the Honda activa which is ridden by members in the family back at home and I have to admit, the damn 100 cc engine runs a lot smoother and better than the Bullet. Bullet lovers, please don't take offense, like I said, this is just a personal observation. The only problem being that it was too small for me. Anyway, I tried my best to forget about the CBR since I was planning on the car. However, since I live in a small place where I dont have a dedicated parking, I was still not sure. By then I started seeing a couple of CBR's on the road and again used to actually like the bike. So I finally decided to take a test drive just for the heck of it. Loved it.
But then I came to this thread on Xbhp for the first time and I remember, there were around 500+ pages in the ownership experience, and a lot of problems, like one engine seizure, spares availability
etc and then immediately, decided to not opt for it. But then for some reason , I just kept getting back to this bike for some reason or the other. Finally, I decided to go to the showroom again, took another test drive. So I decided to take the chance. Paid up and got the bike yesterday.
Here are the positives and negatives,
Positives
1. Extremely refined engine way better than the Bullet. This is a personal opinion!
2. Big freakin' bike. The bike does feel big while riding compared to actually looking at it. It looks pretty small otherwise.
3. Very smooth gear box.
4. Great riding position but does have its bit of getting used to.
5. I love the looks. Thats the one reason I actually got it. I somehow just don't like the way the Ninja looks. No offense to the ninja lovers.
6. I found the suspension pretty good, but that might be because I have been riding the bullet.
7. The brakes (std) are amazing, compared to the Bullet, where the front breaks were non existent. ( yes the newer models have disks and would probably be the same)
8. The display is beautiful.
9. The lights are very powerful, although not very effective in the highways. The dipper surface area is very less, high beam works better on highways.
10. Runs very well in the city, but has certain negatives listed later
Negatives.
1. The gear requires you to put your leg under the lever to pull it up unlike bikes which have a heel and toe, this screws up your shoes ..haha...I know at high speeds if you hit the gear, it could cause accidents, thats why they have provided a single lever, but if its a city commuter also, it should have had the convenience. So for basic city commuting you need to wear proper shoes, no slippers and cheaper ones, or else it would screw new ones.
2. No center stand. This is a accident waiting to happen. I don't want to comment more on this.
3. Turning radius.
4. Riding position does need getting used to or else you put a lot of pressure on your wrists causing pain or they getting numb over long distances.
5. Storage place. Putting any contraption on this bike makes it look ugly, so you need to carry a freakin backpack evertime, which I just dont like. Again a personal thing.
6. Gears - Requires you to shift often within the city since its a 6 speed box! I find it a bit of a pain.
So far I love this bike. I am trying not to sound very excited. Will do that after riding it for a while.
I would definitely recommend this bike to everyone interested (based on my current experience). I have no idea what is in store for the future in terms of spares etc.
Cheers,
SunLast edited by ALLFORBIKES; 11-21-2011, 12:31 AM.

Filling in Octane 97 today. Riding in lower RPMs is a bliss now though the bike does take a fraction of a second more to pull forward!
So well - spending 85 bucks on octane 97 is not worth the money spent on a minor improvement in lower RPM riding. But yes, the engine growls a bit more now which I kinda like
