My taillight bulb is kaput and its just in time for the 4th service the brakelight works only when lever is pulled in but is otherrwise off when the headlight is on! Time to get a bulb now.
Where did you replace it? Mlore? Somehow think we have a better ASC compared to these folks out here even though we still dont have a seperate CBR service cabin with customer lounge

    • The Honda SVC mechanic claims my engine is knocking when I took it for service. I then anyway got the oil changed to Motul (10W40) and my vibrations increased ten folds. He said the vibs are because of the engine knocking and not because of any loose body part.

So can someone please confirm if this is how a normal single cylinder should sound or are there hints of engine knocking?

Also, the engine makes a whistling sound while de-accelerating; is that normal?

      Please use headphones.

      • engine wouldn't ideally knock at idle.. it will knock at load... or running high gear at low rpm...
petrol engine dosent knock at idle.. unless its some major issue with piston.... ideally called as pinging wont do that...

however if you hear a lot of clatter.. get the shim clearance and oil pump checked..

what exactly is the issue you are facing...

i have a lil whistling at when i give it the first start in morning..

knocking can be due to piston slap, piston bearings , loose or worn lifters, loose or worn rockers.

meanwhile during my frequent svc visits i have seen.. worn out rocker arms.. and cam shafts on rides with 13k-15k on odo...
get the head cover open and inspected...

Better straight line stability and firm footing on highways. Not easily flickable as lighter bikes in traffic.

                • Hi Guys,

Seems like I have an issue with my brakes - they seem to have lost their bite and don't feel safe anymore.

It just happened yday, I was riding with a pillion at 80kph and spotted a speedbreaker some 50 metres ahead. Under normal circumstances, I would require a light grasp on the brakes and the would bike to slow down from 80 to 25 in ~20-25 meters, but yesterday, the brakes just didn't respond, and I had to grab the brakes real hard to get some stopping power. Ideally what should have been a light braking ended up in a panic situation.

The roads were perfectlly smooth and dry, no gravel, no wet patches and the braking didn't require ABS to kick in. I am aware of the added momentum because of pillion weight and other physics & dynamics, but the entire point of the post is - the brakes used to respond perfectly even with a pillion on board.

I am at 3100 on the odo. Is it that my brake shoes have lost their bite and need replacement? Or do I need to replace my brake fluids?

Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!

You can personally check if the brake pads are worn out or not..and are you facin dis problem frequently?..brake liquids don't need replacement at 3100km ..may be u faced a void I mean bubble may be..you can do one thing tie your front brake lever pressed hard with a rope with your handle for overnight this may help you getting the bubble out but if the problem persists my suggestion will be a complete bleed with dot4 from a good mechanic..80 is still mangable but I can assure you don't want to face this issue at 120plus..

Just faced this problem since the last 2 days. The 1st time this happened, i thought it was a one-off incident. Bu when it happened again yesterday, I became sure that there has been an issue. The brake pads don't look worn from outside, but yes, another observation - the brakes make a sqealing sound under panic braking (lets say I am at 60+ and squash the front brakes suddenly, I can hear loud screeches)

I know that's the 1st step to follow - and i did that last night, but today I have been riding in bumper-to-bumper traffic so couldn't check if that helped.

You bet...it's scary when brakes don't respond

Joel sells steel braided lines for the CBR as a set for much cheaper, not sure if its the same brand.
He also sells petal discs for the CBR now.

                        • the squealing noise I personally face after a ride in rain the next day but vanishes after few times braking ..sometimes little bit of dirt causes dat but are you facing that noise whenever you brake?..then take the bike to asc and get the calliper opened and see if theres some prob with pistons or pads because 3100km is far less for the brakes to malfunction that also on a abs with nissin assembly..but after openning the calliper make sure they fix it right..because one of my friend got his(c-abs cbr) calliper opened in a asc then after he rode out to his horror he found front brake not working at arround 75 kmph he stopped with huge effrot and found calliper is hanging on one bolt he called asc and mechs came and fixed it..

I encounter that squealing noise whenever I am at a high speed and brake hard (panic braking / to avoid some sudden obstacle). Gradual/moderate braking doesn't result in any sound. And ofcourse, this loss in braking efficiency coming up now.

                                a few pointers...

                                1. STD brakes will last 6k-7k ( both )
2 ABS BRAKE pads will last 13k-15k (both )

if you find sudden lost of bite...
go to the svc and ask them to clean the pads and re-callibrate ... no need to add fluid... just ask to clean pads...

take them out.. rub them on a coarse surface and also clean the disk.. any signs of oil/lube on disc.. will result in bite loss drastically..
