Re: Honda CBR 250R
Congrats on your ride, John!Originally posted by jhonmathews View PostI got my black c-abs today. Got a lot of details to share. But there's a little but of an issue. While shifting from the second to the third gear there is a clanking noise. Every other gear change both up and down is very smooth. Tried telling the asc, the mechanic tightened the clutch(it was quite loose). The sound has reduced a little but is still there. Could somebody please help? Thing is, this should not grow into a bigger problem later on.
I don't think that sound is a clutch issue, a loose clutch would cause clanky gearshifts across all gears. What RPM do you shift gears? Make sure you upshift after 4000rpms at the least.

Re: Honda CBR 250R
I change it at 4.5. It still happens. And it happens only while shifting from 2 to 3. That's what concerns me. Also, the gear change is absolutely smooth(just as the others are). There's just the sound.
I'm just guessing but could it possibly be because the bike is new and as the parts of the bike start to wear out, the gear would become smooth?Last edited by jhonmathews; 05-09-2013, 05:41 AM.

the engine is new... the engine braking will be harsh...Originally posted by jhonmathews View PostI got my black c-abs today. Got a lot of details to share. But there's a little but of an issue. now when you change gears... if you suddenly de-accelerate or accelerate.. the chain with the sprocket and the engine braking... gives that sound.. nothing to worry off.. just try not to sudden de-accelerate or accelerate suddenly after changing gear...."A good long ride can clear your mind, restore your faith, and use up a lot of fuel."

Re: Honda CBR 250R
I don't understand. The sound comes when the gear is engaged(clutch pulled in) so how does that have to do with the sprocket or the chain? Sorry but I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to bikes. I do make sure I never rev it more than 4.5 km and no sudden accelerations or deceleration.
Also, does the exhaust note change(become smooth) after the first service? Mine sounds a bit different than the videos I've been seeing on the internet.
Lastly, I'll post my buying experience by tonight. Some pretty interesting occurrences.

Re: Honda CBR 250R
Hey, Congrats for the RIDE. I got my ride Last month and had the similar kinda issue with gearbox. 1 to 2 and 2 to 3 were clunky and rest all were smooth. I decided to ride around for few hundred kms as the gearbox itself needs Run-in. After 300 kms it was all smooth and now after 1st service its butter smooth. So I would say wait a while, do your breaking-in formalities and see if that clunkyness still persists. Do enjoy your ride.. cheers !Originally posted by jhonmathews View PostI don't understand. Re: Honda CBR 250R
As promised, here goes the buying experience:
Day 1: 3/05/2013
After my exam was over, I rushed down to the student's section to apply for a bonafide certificate for the purchase of my CBR. The people at the ASC had said that booking shouldn't be a problem but while buying the bonafide is required. The bike would take about 20 days for arrival after the booking so it'd be perfect since that's the time my exams would get over. Got the bonafide request in and headed for the showroom to meet my mom there.
Here's where it got interesting. When I walk in, there's already a Black C-ABS(the one I wanted) standing there. The dealer said, if you pay the cheque for the whole amount by today evening the bike will be yours by next week and no bonafide is required for the bike. Just an address proof is fine. Since my next exam was in a while, I decided to go for it. Meanwhile, some other customer had come and was sitting on the bike to test it and was basically screwing it up trying to press every switch he could lay his hands on. When the dealer. that I was talking to, came back he asked him to step off. 1000 Rs was paid for the booking and the cheque was to be given by the evening. Papers were also submitted and all the formalities were completed. Before going, I told the Dealer to keep the bike safe and take care. He said 'aap chinta matt karo sir, aapki bike aaj shyam tak go down mein hogi'.
In the evening, I rode my stunner back to the ASC and gave them the cheque. And low and behold, there was a red CBR 150R standing where the 250 stood a while back.
Day 2: 4/05/2013
Now that the excitement started building up, I wanted to go back and ask him to adhere to little details that I asked him for. I said, I didn't want any ASC stickers in the bike anywhere but the Rear plate would do. After all, they need to do that much at least. I was insisting on this because my CBF stunner had 'b.u. bhandari' writting all over the suspension and it looked hideous. That among many other reasons is why I chose Yash Honda. Also, writing something like that on the CBR would be a disgrace to the bike.
My second request was, the number should be printed on the front portion of the mudguard instead of the number plate since I am planning to remove it as well. But that he said, couldn't be complied.
At about 6 pm he called up and told me that the cheque has been passed and the bike is now yours. Registration is all that is left.
Day 4: 6/05/2013
I was reminded that a few owners got their CBRs with a very high odo reading so I went to check the odo nad saw '31kms' written on it. That's when I posted a question here asking whether that is okay or not. Thank you bbsrailfan for your help.
Secondly, everytime I saw the bike, I made sure to check whether the radiator fins weren't bent.
Also, I noticed that there was a small area on the right side cowl(the one near the tail light and I am sure it might be called something else) while booking and now, it was covered up with paint!!
Day 5: 7/05/2013
Dealer calls me at about 4pm and says your bike is ready and you can come and collect it. I said I would come early morning tomorrow and take it. He said 'chalega sir'.
Day 6: 8/05.2013
I was very very excited since this was the bike I've been dreaming of since quite a while. I got a checklist ready as to what all I needed to check for the bike before delivery. I even asked the same question here on this thread. Thank you kpvision and bbsrailfan for your help on this matter.
Once I reached there, I started checking the bike and everything seemed fine.
Here's the funny part, I checked the bike's odo again to see if they've ridden the bike again since yesterday and it turns out the odo reading was actually '3.1 kms'. Had a good laugh about it and my mind was at ease now. I somehow must have missed out on the decimal point.
I pointed out the issue of the spot that was painted over and the guy said 'gaadi dhulegi to agar paint maara hai to nikal jayega'. I pointed out that while cleaning they should make sure that they don't spray water on the radiator as the fins just bend. After collecting the papers, I came back to the go down to see my bike being washed and dried. then they said 'sir aap uupar jaakey baitho hum uupar latey hain'. I thought they were just being polite and went up. But half way ,because of the excitement I went and had a look at the bike from the exit of the go down from where the bring the bikes up on the road and I was shocked.
What I saw was, they were collectively trying to cover up that spot by spraying something( paint I am guessing) but it wasn't working out for them for god knows what reason. This was the first bad experience with them. I went down after a while and they said they will replace the entire cowl because of the spot and at first I was really happy. They did so as I watched and then I asked an engineer how to tighten the mirrors and he showed me using their own tool. Then when I asked whether the tool was included in the toolkit they said it was and when checked it wasn't there. Here's the second bad experience, they conveniently took it out of another CBR and packed it into mine. The new cowl was brought and this would turn out to be the worst part of the buying experience as I will tell you soon. There were a few black marks so the guy washed it and showed it to me(from a distance) and it seemed clean.
After being assembled, I took it for a test ride and everything seemed fine.
On the way out one of the engineers said I should fill up my petrol on the way out. I thanked everybody there including the engineers and the dealer as well for a rather smooth experience.
While riding out of the ASC, I stopped at a petrol pump close by to fill a little petrol. A guy stops by and starts to ask me about the bike. Any guesses what the first question was? 'Kitna deti hai?'. I have read people's post about the bike turning heads but this was a really good feeling.
While riding home I applied the rear brake for the first time and low and behold, it won't work. Also, the bike's third gear would make an unusually loud noise while up shifting(2 to 3). Thank you theironhorse99 bbsrailfan Mayankisme for your help.
Reached home and did a small puja and went over the lemons. I don't know why it's done but it seems fun and mom insisted.
Went back to the ASC after a while to get the issues checked and they helped me out surprisingly fast. The brake is not much better(just needed to be tightened). They also tightened my bike's clutch for the gear issue. The noise did go down considerably but it was still there.
After a while, I noticed that the cowl that had been replaced, had a lot of dents and small spots that I couldn't identify by seeing from afar. It in't good I know but such small issues can be overlooked I guess.
Since then , I have been riding the bike extensively and I completed 100 kms in the first 24 hours itself. I have to say it's a great bike and it lives up to the expectations I had. Haven't been able to check the ABS yet because I don't want to decelerate suddenly during the break in. Can't wait to use the bike to it's full potential.
I would like to thank my parents without whom this obviously won't be possible. Also, thanks to yash3339 who cause the 'inception' in the first place. And thanks to all the xbhp members who've helped me through it. Thanks to Yash Honda as well for the smooth experience.
Cheers!
PS: I don't treat my bike any differently than a liter bike owner treats his ride.

jhonmathews this post by me and subsequent updates posted a couple of pages ago may help you out.Originally posted by bbsrailfan View PostI have finally pinpointed the culprit behind the "creaking sound" and the "tank vibes" - the tank itself is a bit wobbly. I have highlighted the key points in the image below - the part of the fairing highlighted in yellow is connected to the tank at the green screws. The tank itself is a bit wobbly - it has a play of 2-3mm along the blue lines and if i push it with my hand, it wobbles a couple of millimeters to and fro along the blue line. and as I gather speed, it it starts vibrating, and on bad roads, it causes a creaking ruckus like a 70's wreck.

The problem is - the screws highlighted in green are still very tight, so nothing can be done in the areas highlighted in green/yellow...are there any diagrams showing how the tank is mounted on to the frame and how it can be tightened? Is it possible to make any fixes without opening the fairings?

Re: Honda CBR 250R
I believe your issue and mine are completely different. Mine doesn't vibrate or anything at any speed on a straight road. Just when I go through a pot hole(What every speed)or a speed brake, there is a slight squeak. The area is around the left of the handle bars though I am still not sure about what height so I can't locate the exact screw.Originally posted by bbsrailfan View Post@jhonmathews this post by me and subsequent updates posted a couple of pages ago may help you out.

The squeaking sound is like that of a bike's drum brakes when applied in wet conditions.
