Ya it hurts really bad. Sad to hear that
First rule of road: never trust aunties/women riders. They are dangerous than speeding lorries in my opinion
Me and my ride just recovered after an incident caused by aunty.. Felt so bad to see my ride lying down on road. Thankgod its back as gud as new after spending 22k ( gt 15k frm insurance though )

    Ride safe

I know how it feels like. Every scratch on it scratches you too. I have replaced left cowl, left indicator, both levers, left RVM and heat shield so far in one and half years of ownership; none due to my own fault.

Go through posts 7500, 7600 and others listed in my signature. Also you can read my one and a half years of experience here and here. It'll give you an idea of what to expect from bike and running costs associated. As far as making up your mind, take test rides, talk to people who have owned the bikes you are interested in for considerable period; ride their machines for yourself. Internet reviews or forums can guide you or give you an impression but never the feeling and confidence you get from actual ride.

I am planning to buy a new CBR250R. But there is something that is holding me back from buying it. Got very negative feedback from the owners. It seems it has a very high maintenance and quality is not upto the mark as it is an Indian make. My friends have suggested me to go for Duke200 which is better in quality and has a good service backup.

About the sliders, Should I be worried or go talk to the DSG guy?

        Thank You
Depends on what type of bike you want. The segment. I am completely satisfied with my purchase as of now. People day all loads of crap some times. I was suggested the same. Best part is those people own neither of the bikes. Its just because that bike looks nothing like the market is used to that they like it. You need to pick what you are going to use the bike for and then decide. There are no two ways about it since they both belong to different segments.

duke is indeed a marvel.. but just wanted to confirm.. that cbr owners said its high maintenence ??

you should't buy a elephant expecting a maintenence of a sheep.. on the contrary.. this being an elephant compared to splendor etc.. its maintenence still runs cheaper..

another point.. riding style makes a lot of diffrence.. you can trash even a bajaj boxer and make it a high maintenence vehicle..
so if people state high running please get back and check.. what parts specifically they mean..

                servicing : normal bike : 2-3k : mineral oil
                cbr : 5.5-6k : synthetic

engine : usually no part replacement till 20k .. in most of the cases.. keeping the recalled shims issue in 2011 seperate

                tyres : normal bike : 15k-20k ..
                : cbr : conti's ...11k - 24k... i have seen both..

                brake pads : normal bike : 15-16k : cost zma (1400 ) only front..
cbr non abs : 6k-9k (usage ) cost 800 bucks..
                abs : atleast 13-16k cost 1500-1600 bucks..

chainset : normal bike around 25k..
cbr : 18k-22k ( more torque and power.. hence sence self explanatory .. the wear and tear )

parts and fairing : cheaper that r15.. duke.. as a matter of fact.. even the ZMA...
zma left fairing is 1400 bucks.. cbr complete left fairing.. the big black/red/white part.. 800 rs..

FE : my good old cbz : 12.8 bhp : 38-40 kmpl... min and max...
                : pulsar 220 : 21bhp ( fm correct me if wrong ) 35-40...
: cbr : 26 bhp : 34kmpl... since the very first km... almost 14,000 now.. never saw such a stable bike in terms of FE.
with sedate riding on highway.. i juiced out 43+kmpl ...

in case i missed out anything... check for aargee's post.. it has more than anyone needs to know about CBR....

now please go back and check with the owners whats caused a hole in their pocket..
its a premium bike.. there will be small things here and there..
get it serviced on time.. ride sane in cities.. do the run-in well and blast off to your glory on highway.. all you'd need extra is fuel...

Thank you theironhorse99 for the feedback. You actually got back to confidence in me to buy this beast. I'm sure will talk to my parents about it. But would certainly wait for the 2013 CBR to be launched because the HRC colour of the CBR is way better than this one with white tank. Any idea when is it being launched here in India??

Can someone post a picture of the oil tank level window. Need to know at what level it needs to be...Off late the gear shifts have become a little clunky, so tried to adjust the clutch but the problem persists sometimes. The engine feels a lil rough at times though there's no sound, so I doubt it's the shims. Just want to see if it can be fixed by myself. My bike has run close to 1700 kms btw

Shim issues won't crop in that early! Do check your chain. Afaik, the CBR is very sensitive to chain issues like dirt accumulation and lack of lubrication.

Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!

First of all, Cbr can be compared to duke only for that 25hp figure, rest most of the things are so different that its so very easy to make the decision which one to buy.
Coming to quality, I frankly didn't find any difference in the quality of plastics. What makes are duke appear better is the level of fit and finish.. its level or two above Honda. Maintaining CBR is as easy as maintaining any other non-premium bike. The service cost initially may feel a little higher but since honda uses FS oil, the service intervals are pretty good. The spare parts are very reasonably priced and bulletproof honda reliability ensures that you need not visit ASC every 15 days. The bike is in market for sometime now and almost everything has been sorted out.

What do you mean by "Indian" bike ?
Duke, R15 are all Indian bikes..and they are exported from India to foreign markets. Infact CBR 250R is popular International product and enjoys very good reviews from international bike magazines.

Service Backup depends on each ASC. Some are excellent some are not upto mark. If you aren't satisfied, try with the different ones..

That's disheartening to hear. I always make sure that i stay away from female drivers as lots of my friends have paid the "heavy" price. The worst thing is that you can't fight your guts out with a lady because you'll be termed as rude and ill-mannered by the on-lookers. They never take the blame. Hope your bike recovers soon.

go ahead mate.. if you can afford it.. its a premium bike... which comes with a VFM tag... no other ride at this price point is comparable to the CBR.. ofcourse people have their views
but for 1.7-1.8 lakh.. a technically sound 250 is certainly VFM as of now India...

regarding the new HRC... white theme.. even if the production would hav started.. dont expect anything before Mid June.. though its just a month away
however the downside is the dealers etc go through a bad chain of communication and are uncertain of whats going in the company and decisions.. basically.. less transparency..
the New Hrc certainly looks good however just one advise... getting the new HRC the tank will be White..

white paint on metal tend to get yellowish sooner than on plastics.. also Tank is the center point of attraction for any motorcycle (this is where you put your eye first on any motorcycle :generalized )also it will be non metallic.. i would suggest go with a dark metallic theme for tank shade .. its easier to polish it and buff it to glory.. white tend to loose that edge soon..Check out white swift's that are a cpl of years old around you.. you'd get an idea what i mean.. so 2 years later.. you'd be sitting with a lil dull tank than the rest of the body..

other side of the story it.. if you can and should make out time to manitain your ride.. then religiously keep it clean.. polish it at intervals.. and the same white will be beautiful...

just that when you make decisions for colour like black and white... keep in mind what kinda attention they need... being non metallic.. regular polish is only way to keep it shiny...

ask you friend to sit upright on the bike.. if the oil is around half way through the glass you are good..
the cables expand... with time... get the play checked.. keep the free play nor more than 10mm-15mm...

first of all... not on a rude note.. just so that new folks shudn't get scared...

every ticking noise and rough engine is not SHIM DEVI's prakop... from 2012 onwards.. the shim issue was sorted out and 2011 honda generously recalled and replaced as much they could.. with few glitches here n there due to the bad ASS...

so forget bout shims until 15,000 km...new bikes dont have shims issue...

rough engine : with just 1700km as the engine is setting in... it sometimes feel rough.. it will gradually set in..

                          reasons :
                          chain slack: get that checked
dry chain : major cause for rough ride
                          over inflated tyres
                          tyre alignment..

loose fairing and bolts.. as they vibrate... they might not produce sound.. but sometimes give a feeling of roughness.
                          disk pad clearance...

front sprocket: i had this one.. the roughness lasted till 7k km.. not harsh.. but still...

trusts me brothers... i am a very sane rider in streets with all my gear on all the time...
hardly a 30 feet lane.. in which i was happily in second gear actaully in 20's .. or it would have been less but not even a notch more.. just following the rtc bus and a swift.. and from no where this women comes with a bang... she came that fast that i did not even had a chance to check my RVM and make a move..

truly said i coudn't abuse her neither hit her...what pissed me off was.. she could have atleast said i sorry.. i would have not felt that bad...
i was blamed of riding middle of a 30 feet street for going too slow... and she says she was going straight..

i was like.. where else is everyone going ?? its a straight lane with no turns or divider....bl**** b***** ... had it been a guy i actually would have smashed his face...Riding on 50's in a crowded street that too on a activa.. and women driver... deadly combo...

i fixed the number plate and indicator .. also the bent footpeg.... but every time i see the first scratch on my ride that she made on the rear grab rail.. i curse her...

geez... i bugged you guys enough with a long post...

First of all... not on a rude note.. just so that new folks shudn't get scared...

Every ticking noise and rough engine is not SHIM DEVI's prakop... from 2012 onwards.. the shim issue was sorted out and 2011 honda generously recalled and replaced as much they could.. with few glitches here n there due to the bad ASS...

so forget bout shims until 15,000 km...new bikes dont have shims issue...

rough engine : with just 1700km as the engine is setting in... it sometimes feel rough.. it will gradually set in..

                            reasons :
                            chain slack: get that checked
dry chain : major cause for rough ride
                            over inflated tyres
                            tyre alignment..

loose fairing and bolts.. as they vibrate... they might not produce sound.. but sometimes give a feeling of roughness.
                            disk pad clearance...

front sprocket: i had this one.. the roughness lasted till 7k km.. not harsh.. but still...
Agreed about the shim issue, I just mentioned it since I didn't want people suggesting me to get the shims and valve clearance checked since I know that's NOT the issue

The engine oil is around halfway mark, so no problems there as well.

Must be the chain then, I also get this scrubbing sound I mentioned earlier...Will check it out. No lubrication problems I reckon

                            Thanks a lot

It all begins with a thumb-start -- Oh, wait, I forgot the kill-switch

                              Thanks @bbsrailfan
the scrubbing sound is nothing but the chain and the misligned tyres... as and when the chain passes through the misaligned rear sproket moving along with the wheel.. the slack increased and decreases.. sometimes chain gets too tight at places and result in that scrubbing sound... though besides the sound there wont be anything.. however prolonged usage will cause..

uneven slack on chain permanently ( mechaniccs call is " chain out hai " ) , improper wear of tyre and brake pad... worse.. the disc will get scratched too once the pad wears out only from one side...

                              and bad handling....

I needed a few tips from you guys on the following matter. I completed my first 750kms so I decided to push the revs up to 6rpm. In 6th gear its almost 100kmph. The problem was, even with a pillion sitting the wind when blowing sideways(left to right or right to left as from the bike) the bike completely looses its line and gets swayed away. How do you people solve this problem?
