Crosswinds are a problem for every faired bike. You have to learn to live with it.

That's what I meant. What do you do when you have cross winds in the picture ? If it's this bad at 100 I can only imagine what I will go through at 120 or 130. How do you go about handling the bike then?

jhonmathews there is no way you can avoid it. Crosswinds are mostly felt on open roads with fields/grasslands on both sides. When you feel you are losing stability, its best to ease off the throttle and drop to 80-90kph. If you are on a road with proper embankments, you can touch 135+ without crosswinds.

Its simple, you ease off the gas and drop to a more comfortable speed till the winds pass by. I'm sure you won't be having them all the time, you can hit 120/130 comfortably when there are no crosswinds.

Okay. I thought ducking and bending over the tank would've been a solution.

I am going for my first service by the end of the week. Apart from oil filer change, oil change, coolant check and the few issues that I have, what else should I keep in mind?

crouching can be done when riding solo and you can push the machine.. also fight with cross winds while tugged in by moving your head left/right (weight balancing ) similar to what drag racers do.. however things are diffrent with a pillion.. the center of mass moves.. and it gets risky..

coolant need not be checked.. just oil and oiul filter..

this is first service.. from next service onwards get the air filter changed too i.e. 6k.. though honda suggests 12k .. but considering dust in india.. 250 bucks extra is worth it..

How do you find the grip?. My rear tire is manufactured in August 2012. Do you have any feedback on the grip?. I am OK with mine in dry, but heard people had issues with grip in older batches in wet. Haven't tested yet in wet situations. Waiting for Monsoon

Good info. As per the dyno chart - we have exponential graph and from 5K to 6K rpm more horses compared to 4K to 5K. I have also started shifting 5K up now in lower gears. First I was having 150CC rider mindset. Most of the commute in Blr averages at 3rd gear for me. One small issue of shifting t 5K+ is that I feel little vibration at handle bars. This is the character of CBR. It is fine I believe.

Ducking is used for protection against windblasts, not cross winds. Cross winds blow from left-right or right-left direction. Windblasts blow at your face,(i.e. the direction opposite to which your bike and you are moving or in simpler words when you are "riding against the wind").

Went for a nice ride on NICE road on Sunday afternoon. First five minutes were fine, but once I reached a valley point before leopard crossing warning bill-board near to Kanakapura exit , wind blast started hitting me bad (around Blr wind infestation is high - as glorious weathered Blr is perched on top of plateau about 3000 feet up and going out of city is mainly downhill and coming in is uphill - we crib about this every time on our bicycle out-in of Blr). It was very bad and was could only manage 70kmph, that too was making me drift. Other riders without fairings were also struggling. While coming back it was OK. First time I thought, I need a heavier bike, after getting CBR (though I am planning to keep this for fairly long time )

I faced this issue whilst riding from Pune to Rajkot back in 20011. The moment I entered Saurashtra, the wind from the Gulf of Khambatt tried its best to throw me into the ditch.

Crosswinds can either be of the steady type or the gusty type.

For a steady xwind, one needs to cant (tilt) the bike INTO the wind by a couple of degrees. No set amount, depends on the direction and speed of the xwind.

For gusty, shifting xwinds, steady, firm but not tight operation of the handlebar is the only solution.

NOTE In both cases, reducing speeds to say 60/65/70 kmph is a MUST. If the velocity of the steady xwind increases/decreases very suddenly, there may not be enough time for corrections and one could go off the road. For gusty xwinds, which are the most dangerous type, I advocate a speed of not more than about 55 or 60 kph so that one has positive control at all times.

If one is riding in areas where xwinds are to be definitely expected, a heavy tank bag will keep the nose steady and cause a resistance to sudden direction changes.

Be ultra cautious in xwinds on the CBR; the huge fairings act as sails to catch the wind and push the bike around. Better to be slow and steady than speedy and sorry

Here they topped coolant up to High level- though coolant was in between High and Low (charge was Rs 20).
Tell them not to spray high speed water indiscriminately.
Once you take the bike - check out for any consumables consumed (not that they do this intentionally).
For example - I realized after getting CBR home that they consumed my front tyre value cap .
Ride for a small distance and check - for example -the gear shift angle is fine for you?. They set it to more sporty.
They will fold up the ears of CBR and won't tighten it - but will cleverly rotate and and put it to position and will give it. Sit on the bike and ask them to fit it as per your need.
Check if the bill is in your name, bike details are OK etc (where am I living man - it took me 30 minutes to get the bill done properly - computers are not helping many people these days). They may not even update the owner manual entry also (you may want it).
