Today I gave my bike for it's 3rd free service at 11396kms on the odo to 21 Honda in Powai. The following problems were mentioned to the service advisor

    1) Fuel pump needs to be replaced (will be replaced under warranty due to fuel indicator malfunction)
    2) Shims need to be checked as the engine makes a metallic sound from 4k rpm to 6.5k rpm. This was asked to be done is warranty. However the service adviser said that if the shims have to be replaced the cost would be about 2000 RS. Members who have had their shims replaced during the warranty period please shed some light on the time.
    3) My indicators are turning brownish. Also in the monsoon i can see some water residue inside the turn indicators. Please let me know if the same will be replaced under warranty.

I've told the service advisor that if he cant replace the shims in warranty to give me a call and I will send a email to Honda for the same. The bike was dropped off this morning and I have not yet received a call yet.

    Thanks in advance.
    Taher
shims are categorized under consumables .. hence wont be covered under warranty.
it will be a paid replacement unless they are defective which is not the case with newer bikes..

Cost of a shim is approx. Rs.200
each shim costs around 300 bucks and for replacing 4 shims it will be 1200+ 300 labour charge so total of 1500 +- 200

My CBR is just about 2 months old though. About 1300+ kms.
in old bikes the valves (tappet ) used to be controlled by legacy nut tightening system to control the clearance
however in CBR and few other bikes the same is controlled by a shim ( looks like you wrist watch button cell) which takes wear and tear over time
and has to be replaced. there is no other alternative.

@ theironhorse, I was shocked to read that each shim costs 300, called the service center they said it costs 390!!! Had bought them for 171 each in June 2012. The price has gone up by 128% in 20 months.

Shims dont have a fixed price, and based on the required size (which varies from bike to bike) the price can vary from Rs. 175 to Rs. 320.

I had the shim noise for a long time. So got it replaced about 200kms back.. But the noise was still there.
Yesterday replaced the camshaft and rocker arms... both inlet and exhaust cam lobes had worn out.. they also replaced the chain tensioner along with it. And now.. no noise at all... I am so in love with my bike :-)

Both the cams had hairline scratches on it. I think from next service I'll go for semi synthetic oil. Its much more viscous than fully synthetic (throttle).

150R is a lightweight machine compare to 250R. For mileage what I can say you is, you can get up to 35kmpl with good riding habits. Though people have reported more mileage. And 150R doesn't have Pass light and Engine kill switch as you mentioned, I were in same dilemma and found that Pass light is very important than Engine kill switch. So when you are going to spend 1.5L you should consider these things. If you can manage to stretch your budget go for 250R or wait for new launches.

Once upon a time, I was confused about the same, but trust me after saving for 250R and finally purchasing and riding a 250R ABS its absolutely worth it. I purchased it on last monsoon and ABS saved me on many occasion because of fungal roads in front of my house.
