I'm a huge fan of this legendary bike & thought of buying it initially. But, ultimately had to settle for ZMR due to cash constraints.

Neither is coming to India. Maybe 2015 but the 2013 colors will have to sell this year before HMSI might consider the new model.

I think I'll go for 2012 model only, I'll ask the showroom guys if they can rip up new ECU and install it in 2012 model. Is it a common practice to do such things? I'm also missing out on MRF tyres for the colour, but as it's summer for the next three months and me being a smooth driver, I think it should be fine.
I hope you saw the 2013 Red in person and are not judging it by pictures. IMO The old Red had a bit of a maroon shade to it while the new Red is bright Red.
AND No 2013 ECU may not be compatible with older models. There could be minute changes in valve angles or other components. It would be a costly affair.

Best way is to buy the 2013 bike, then buy the fairings of the old one. Total parts will be less than 20k i think including tank. Or get it repainted to old color.

Bought Sports Red Model as its plastic quality seemed better to me and the bike is very smooth. I'll post more details and pictures soon.

Hey Congrats on the purchase! IMO, the CBR's layered fairing design needs a 2-tone colour combo. Without it, the entire design looks drab and kinda pointless....and sorry for saying this but the Sports Red looks very plastickly for the same reason. The Sunbeam white or the all black are best among '13 shades.

Have seen a Full black CBR with old silver wheels and the older black/silver with black wheels- both look quite good

The 1 bhp blip is apparently only for the Spec sheets judging by most owners feedback though

How frequent you people lube CBR's chain for a normal dusty 50% city and 50% highway usage.

Every 400-500 km in good weather and every 100 km during rains.

It's 2.04L at Hyderabad, as of yesterday.

I'm in the process of finalizing between 250R and D390. I'm concerned about the cost of ownership of 250R, can someone give me a ball park figure?

While TD, I noticed that my foot is not naturally falling on gear lever. I'm 5 foot 10, is it normal or my posture wasn't right?

Also, during my TD, I noticed a new 250R being delivered, it had continental tyres. I argued with the manager that I heard 2014 model comes with MRF as standard, along with the new ECU. He kept insisting that the bike being delivered was 2014 model. Now that is a big concern if I were to go with the 250R, how can I check if the bike is from 2014 stock?

From the serial no and engine no...

check in the cbr manual to read the serial no..or here other members can help you in recognizing the year from the serial...

                        Looks
I didn't like it first on road but when I saw Sports Red in display in showroom, it looked like a cute toy to me. Then my friend and I went to shop's godown to look at 2012's Red/silver model; it definitely is quite a looker. I was looking for a decent look, so opted for Red/Silver colour. In heart, now I had started to like Sports Red as well but needed the push to buy it. My friend is a rookie, I explained to my friend how 2013's model is better in technical terms, then he started to push to me buy 2013 Sports Red model; I was sold.
It's quite a looker, at least a 50 heads turned on my way to Shamshabad Airport yesterday. I'm a critique at heart and these are the words of a critique.

                        Handling and Braking
Braking is the part which made me choose CBR ABS. The kind of confidence ABS gives me is beyond words, especially when it rained on my way to Airport yesterday and still the breaking performance is optimal. The bike is a bit big, so it's not too flickable; but I'm fine with it.
One problem I'm facing is that in traffic, when I was on bikes like Pulsar or Hunk, I used to go in 2nd gear even at 10 kmph. But this bike's engine lugs in 2nd gear at 12 kmph and 1st gear's acceleration is too high for the traffic. So, I'm a little uncomfortable to travel in trafffic as of now; but handling on highways is amazing, no doubt that people call it a tourer.

                        2013 Upgraded Parts Usefulness
I thank @Nithesh for his advice on buying 2013's model. First and foremost, Dual Horns come really handy when going at high speeds. Also, engine performance seems a bit smoother on the newer version; I rode a 2011's test drive bike and there's a lot of difference between the two. One can argue that test drive bikes aren't properly maintained and I must agree to it, because the one I rode showed 2600 kms on Odo and it's a 2 year old bike. Also, 2013 Contigo's seems to give a decent grip compared to the one I drove earlier.
Overall there are good upgrades in 2013's model that are worthy to be looked at.

                        Pricing
Hi @hypheni, here goes your answer. This is for Hyderabad: 184243 (Ex-Showroom) + 16670 (Life Tax) + 4200 (0% Dep. ICICI Insurance) + 1200 (Five year warranty) + 300 (1 year Road side assistance) ~ 206600 (For me it was around 2.07, not sure which part I've missed) + 950 (RTA Registration charges) = 2.08L for me

Also, if anyone is interested in buying 2012 Red/Silver model from Hyderabad, you may contact Vaishnoi Showroom in Kondapur; they do have one in stock.

Hi @sriharsha_madineni, you can find the manufacturing year of CBR using this link: http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/motorcyc...tml#post803518. Mine is in 2013 December according to this, and I got Contigo Tyres which are quite a bit decent and since it's summer, it shouldn't be a problem. Also, if you drive an R15, you may find CBR's posture more than normal. I had slight wrist pain after driving for 45 minutes, even though it's minor and negligible.

The red ceeber being delivered was yours? I've test ridden the red/silver one lying in their warehouse. Are you talking about the same red/silver one?

                              Hello Everyone,

                              4th Service Update:

Completed 12900 kms and done 4th Paid Service.
Observed a little oil around the head and also suspected the oil level to be a bit lower than minimum.
Topped up with 10W30 semi synthetic (fully synthetic was not available & had to ride to Nasik the next day)

                              Charges for parts & Services:
                              Oil & oil filter changed - 806.40 + 284.01
                              oil filter gasket -64.00
                              drain washer - 2.00
                              Air filter - 292.60
Head Gasket replaced - 90.84 (Technician advised against but I asked him to go ahead to be safe, plus the gasket is not that expensive)

                              clutch cable - 160
Extended Warranty (+2 yrs over Mfg warranty or 72000 kms) - 900.00
Roadside assistance - 300 (valid for 1 year)
AMC - 3 services for RS 3500; oil & parts at discounted rates. (Non AMC service charges per service = 1600.00)

Done two small rides solo as well as with pillion.
The torque never ceases to surprise as does the fuel economy. On a recent ride to Nashik, could climb the Kasara ghat with pillion and bag in 4th gear most of the time with a fuel consumption of 40 kpl.

Contrary to its appearance and performance as a high speed mile muncher it is comparatively quite economical to run and maintain.

The 6th bar of fuel indicator never glows. yesterday accidently filled petrol above the brim, touching the Lockset. The 6th bar showed up for a min, then goes off again. Actually, only then I realised it has 6 bars.
