• Re: New bike - New rider - Suggestion needed

Hello people,

So I posted about chain cleaning and lubing a while back, so I looked around for motul cleaner and lube. Checking the price I really could not efford the price. I am on a shoe string budget here.

So my alternative. is that for the cleaner I would be using petrol/wd 40 and for the lube hp ep 90/140 gear oil what ever I find.

The plan is to use a tooth brush to clean the chain slowly, if I do not get wd 40 and gear oil[engine oil?] and apply that oil[hopefully synthetic] generously later.

So what do you think?

If you are on a shoestring budget, an affordable option would be to get the P220 chain lube. Gear oil does no good and should be used only in case of an emergency. I used gear oil for lubing me chain for about a month - and found out that it makes your chain stickier and dust/grime accumulates much faster compared to a proper lube.

Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!

+1 for that. I too agree with bbsrailfan the P220 chain lube will be a good replacement if the motul is outbid the budget. Me too getting the P220 chain lube as I am in the same boat as Manan

So will wait till 01 aug and if I don't find something then will buy this one. Thanks for the link.

So today[19/7/2013] I had to go the state public library for some research work, so I don my deni jacket helmet and scoot off.

Stuck in the busy Bangalore traffic, all I did was strike a tune in drumming my fuel tank and exchange remarks with the passing aut drivers.

Then it happened.

Like the awaking of a sleepy bear the cloud burst and released tons of water over the hot city.

Me? I was still drumming a tune when the rain hit me in the face, flipping my visor down with its force, hitting the engine block to be promptly evaporated with a nice frying sound.

So the water starts pooling around my feet and the traffic ambles by, I follow. The water trickles down my clothes and steam arises through the fairings.

Reaching a nondescript bridge, the traffic wears thin I gun my engine and tuck down, my visor clouds up.

Upon a curve the contigo tyres slip a little bringing me to a drift like position, I put my foot down balancing myself,

The yellow stock light reflects back from the rain drops, like stars of the night sky. The city is below me

Towering above me are the skyscrapers and as in a valley, I drift through them on the bridge.

• Re: New bike - New rider - Suggestion needed

On 18 July, I went from Jungadh to Ahmedabad via Rajkot. Started at 0700h, Rajkot came up at 0845h, break for 45 min hour (some work), back in the saddle at 0930h, Ahmedabad came up at 1300h. Return journey on 20 Jul. TOD Ahmedabad 0750h, TOA Rajkot 1100h (my fastest time on this section, only three hours), TOD Rajkot 1200h, TOA Junagadh 1345h. Round trip of 642 kms. Fuel consumed 18.35 litres, tank full to tank full system. Fuel efficiency 34.98 kms per litre.

Junagadh to Ahmedabad: Very light drizzle at start point ended soon, rest of the run in 8/8 overcast conditions till Ahmedabad where it was light rain. The highway has been eroded badly. In places, the bedrock was visible. Small puddles and run-offs everywhere on the road.

Ahmedabad to Junagadh: 5/8 overcast at start point, intermittent breaks of sunlight till Rajkot. From there, 8/8 overcast. Nearing Junagadh, light rain turning to medium rain to heavy downpour ending with a 1 minute spell of small hailstones then no rain and then light rain in Junagadh.

The bike: No issues whatsoever throughout the trip. Started at 7327 kms on the odo, ended with 7951 kms. Did some periods of more than 30 minutes at a steady 90 kph @ 5600 RPM. This is the optimal sweet-spot for my bike at MY higher end of comfort. The lower end, when I want to take in the scenery around, is 80 kph @ 5000 RPM. Any higher speeds and RsPM strain both me and the bike unnecessarily with no significant gains in time.

Luggage was a tank bag on the tank, a laptop bag and a medium sized soft bag both bungeed to the pillion. This weight on the pillion was about 30 kgs and made for a pronounced pendulum effect, especially at low speeds. One interesting phenomenon I must mention for the benefit of all owners. When the pillion luggage is naked, it creates palpable turbulence. But when it is covered with a plastic sheet and lashed down, the wind circulates very easily around. The onward journey was with a naked pillion luggage, return was with it covered by said plastic sheet. The difference is really noticeable, specially when overtaking at speed/being overtaken by fast cars. The heave and weave is much reduced and control is much easier in the latter case.

During the heavy downpour, I reduced speed to about 65 kph as I am not at all confident of the Conti Gos to not hydroplane and/or skid. During overtaking manoeuvres, I touched 112 kph for a few seconds to get ahead and slot into my spot of 90.

Despite the high overall speeds, the bike returned almost 35 kpl which is superlative.

Note I have restored the clip-ons to their original place. The resultant discomfort was most marginal as I have got used to the correct posture for the bike in these past 2 years.

A very nice outing indeed. Would have been doubly so with company as lovely as the weather

Guys, I just bagged a 1.5k on odo 2013 CBR250r from a friend of mine. It is awesome in all terms but the devil inside me is asking for more. I am used to riding all my bikes with a free flow exhaust and the absence the of it in the CBR is killing the fun. While browsing around I found this, CBR 250 R 2011-2013 GP Extreme [EX-00405] - $112.00. I am not sure how reliable this Dan Moto exhausts are but the finish seems pretty decent. Need your advice.

Well I realized the splattering issue when I went for a test ride, the pulsars guys told me that the lube is not available[Near nagarbhavi, Bangalore] the closest place was around 500ml/65 rupees of petrol and the cost of the can was about 450 + taxes.

So I bought an EP 140 series gear oil for 241, 50 for petrol[to clean] free labor and as I mentioned there was a generous amount of splattering.

The dust issue I will get back on it, as it is raining here in Bangalore, so the dust element test cannot be meaningfully concluded at this point of time.

hi,

Never liked the Motul chain lube and cleaner. Use kerosene or diesel for cleaning the chain. DO NOT USE PETROL. and u can use Diamond Chain Lube. It is the best lube i have used. Far better than Motul but less than half its price. You can also use TVS chain lube.

Can you tell why not petrol? I am curious, as I put the spare in the tank afterwards. I went to a nearby tvs showroom they responded in the manner, that they did not have the chain lube in stock.

edit-fuel consumption.

Hello, again,
over a period of time that is from 9/7/2013, where I filled around 200/75= 2.60 liters of petrol and did a trip of 103.80 kms, getting 39.92 kilometers per liter, my fuel consumption has been decreasing.
on 10/7/ 2013 I filled around 200/75 2.60 liters and did a trip of 93.90 getting 36.12[ But I recall that my rpms varied a lot then.

on 22/7/2013 I filled around 200/77= 2.59 liters of petrol and did a trip of 70.30 [the rpms were moving about 5.5-6.5] I got only 27.14 per liter.

Now I am slightly worried, the last mileage was done after I lubed my chain and took it for a test ride, so where the fault lies for the increased fuel consumption?

1) High and varying rpms?

2) Faulty lubing? [I hope not]

3) other issues? [my tires have stock psi's]
