Let me jump the gun with what I saw in the picture. Nice bike. Apart from color of fairings and exhaust, there seems to be some guard with fins below the engine between the fairings (of course coz of reflection !).
And I see a nice reflector (evershine - I used to like it a lot on my bicycle during childhood) on front and this would surely add 2BHPs to power . I want it !.

After a couple of years away from motorcycles (I rode a 1st gen Pulsar 180 for 8 years), I'm thinking of getting back onto a proper two wheeler with gears. My riding has primarily been city but I want to explore short rides (100-200 km) initially and ultimately do a Leh ride in 2014 or 2015. I want a bike with adequate power (though I doubt I will ever be exploring the limits of what these bikes are capable of) and have zeroed in on the CBR250. I did a short test ride with the sales guy sitting behind me and found it quite comfortable. I wanted the new red colour which the guy said will be coming to the showroom next wednesday, so I have a few days before I pay the money and take delivery.

The only thing that gives me a little pause is the seating position. Since I've been riding a scooter since the last two years, where I basically sit upright, I was expecting quite a difference in the posture. However, the angle of lean seems to be significantly more than what I recall in my P180. One of my close friends, whose opinion I value is discouraging me from going ahead for this reason. Personally, I feel that it is fine, I also ride a cycle for an hour every day, where the position is even more lean forward. I also feel that not sitting upright means that the shocks on the road are not transferred straight to the spine, so it may be better for your back. But still, once someone has put a doubt in your mind, it is difficult to ignore it.

Please let me know if it is something I should be concerned about, or will I get used to it over time?

        Hello,

Even I had the same doubt of my riding posture initially, but over time I got used to it. It is like going to the gym, first there would some discomfort and you will get used to it later.

My advice now would be, why dont you try riding r15s or the new gen pulsars for some time perhaps then you would get a feel of the posture before you actually go for the purchase.

        Cheers

        Manan.

        Hello,
Its pouring in Bangalore and my cbr is not taking it so well. As I ride over over wet roads the whole lower chassis gets mucked up and I got to wash it nearly every two days.
To aggravate the the need to wash it regularly, because of the engine heat the muddy water dries up and the mud remains in chunks, even in the radiator there is mud.
Because I travel regularly I just hose it down it water, but my question is, what is the effect of such mud on the bike?

Second as at many occasions I was exposed to the rain while riding, I think water got in the ignition slot, the problem is that the slot feels jammed, that my key would not go in at one go, and at times there are droplets of water on the key. Any suggestions to fix the same?

        Thanks
        Manan.

Welcome!. I too thought that leaning position would be an issue. Read that it is possible to increase height of clip on handles. I was thinking to do it, before I bought it.
But after riding for couple of weeks, the posture became second nature and I love it. I was always riding with upright position with last upgrade to Suzuki Fiero in 2000. From your post looks like you are already aware of disadvantages of fully upright.
CBR riding posture is committed riding posture (slight lean, bent knees). By the way, my family, well wishers, were not keen of me buying anything heavy (right from age 8) coz of my physique. But I went ahead and bought them. When they see me happy with these toys, they also became happy.
I am sure, your friend will be happy if you are happy with the posture. It will be known only after you experience it. Try not to put any weight on the wriists and hold the bar lightly. Slightly griping the sides with thighs is needed. My friend used to say, you will adapt and grow to handle your motorcycle.
By the way, for me, CBR feels like a SUV class in motorcycles. I am very patient with this, it is not like my old Fiero to invade traffic. It is more like a king taking his elephant to court. On open roads, it feels nice to fly, with occasional glance at its beautiful blue/red cockpit.
All the best for your search!

okay so I am clear with the two bolts under the seat, so I presume that the bolt near the foot peg is to be accessed from the other side?

                      Manan.

Edit- People, do you think the local mechanic is good enough to tighten the chain?

Yes you are absolutely right, u need to access that bolt from the other side.

Its better to take the bike to take to ASC rather than going to a local mechanic.

The bike is running on Conti's. Also there were 2 red bikes also on Conti's. so the speculation of the new CBR getting MRF rubbers is unfortunately not going to be true.

That's the only concern right now. But so far the bike is behaving very well in the wet. Hoping it does the same all year round.
