  • Great, I am actually writing a post here in this forum after months of getting the CBR. Damn, things have changed a lot. I remember being very very active on this forum till I got the bike, then mostly its on FB or other social sites.
So anyhow, how is the ride going? Has anyone here done any unique paint jobs or custom changes to bike? How is the ride icemang, thats one hell of a change you have done!!! Hope you are touring well with it?

I have gone for quite a few trips on this bike, and I must say, its a tourer. Not a racing machine, not a complete city bike, but def a good tourer.
Besides that, I had few problems, as common as others, including fairings coming loose, rust, vibrations besides the fairings, broken side rear panel, etc. etc.
But all in all, I find myself very very happy with this bike.

      • Just got back home from a sort of a Honda Camp here at Om Sai Honda, Kandivali, Mumbai

It seemed that only those who had reported problems were called for the camp. And that too only at the Om Sai Honda service center.

The Honda guys were eager to listen to our ownership experiences. I told em about my bent front wheel, radiator fins being bent, vibrations and the bike struggling to go above 130.

        Their answers:

Bent wheel: Will ensure a quick replacement. Also front feels a little weird possibly because of the bent and I was told to wait till the replacement comes to report if the same problem exists.
Radiator: No issues as such. The Honda guys were confident that the bent fins won't cause any problems in the bike now or in the future.
Vibrations and bike struggling to go above 130: Change oil to FS. They told me that CBR should use the 10w30 FS oil! When I told them about the the operational temperature of the oil as mentioned in the manual, they persisted that 10W30 is specifically made for the CBR which should ensure better performance and should be used for the bike!
So my service is scheduled for this saturday and the technician there was instructed to make the 10W30 oil available for me.

Yes, I have read aargee posts about the perils of 10W30 however, the Honda officials urged me to use FS over mineral oil for better performance of the vehicle.

        • ^^^ I've understood your post too @chicmagnet & I'll opt for 10W-30 (whatever FS or SS or Mineral) but supplied by HMSI for my next service. Tks for the info & I'm glad you asked & shared the info here; appreciate it

One question to chicmagnet - Isn't 10W30 an SS or HMSI claims they sell 10W30 FS

          • This weekend did delhi-amritsar-delhi on my CBR.

The ride was really comfortable and apart from the stop for dinner and refuelling, was riding the bike continously. Made the one side journey in 6hours including the stops.
The roads were pretty good and the bike returned an overall mileage of 33.
Also completed 6000kms on my bike, so took my bike for service.
On monday, the people from Honda Marketing and technical engineers had come to atted the CBR customers and service the vehicles.
I did complain about the quality of build, since my bike was already rusting ( some screws and nuts), also some loose bits.

                Hi ajaymanohar,

Yes, that is a change but not a very major one. It seems so in the large and detailed writeup but in reality is quite simple.

I am posted in Rajkot but my wife and kids are in Pune. Biking to and from Pune takes me 1.5 days of leave one way. Also, the traffic conditions are such that matters can get really frustrating for a biker - just to give you an example, there are are ALWAYS two huge traffic holdups enroute which take up on an average 2 to 2.5 hours EACH. So I have to do this route in a Volvo.

Touch wood, I have not had any such problems as yours till date - no rust, no loose fairings, nothing at all.

Had Honda not thought that each and every prospective client of the CBR is a knee-scraper and given two options with this particular model - one like the present one and the other with the same engine and chassis but more inclined towards touring, this bike would have "had" even lesser expensive bikes. It performs so beautifully on the highway - solid, comfy and fast - that I am reminded of the tagline of Jaguar here - Grace, Space, Pace. But I have found that it just HATES the city stop and go kind of traffic; it snarls and catches and jerks and spits and scratches like a big cat. But out on the highway, she is purring with every touch. Honda, take note please. Give us a second version like a mini R1200GS

                  Whaaat ???
Everyone here has a different view!!! Everyone says its an excellent city machine while you say its snarls & jerks!!! Personally all of us are experiencing the vehicle zooming into city roads without a minutest glitch.

                    • 100kms..........

                      hey guys..
I have successfully completed 100kms..its nothing compared to the endless miles i'll have with my bike.....ok a few observations.
1.post fall except for the sounds the bike is fine(had the ASC check it up said its nothing.)
2.traffic ride was difficult for me..@RG, sir today i rode in the thick of porur traffic.coz i had to shift up down etc.sir i had a doubt abt the speed per gear.i DONT redline but i do open up,up to 5k-5.5k RPM.speeds are 50-60kms.
3.the bike has a different personality in the traffic and in the open road...or is it me(novice)??.
4.the horn needs to be louder to blow the !@#!@# out of the way.
5.the bike likes to rev, very rev happy.
6.its quite a work to keep her looking gud.....
makes all the days iv waited worth.but i feel guilty tht my baby had a small fall.i say a HAIL MARY and OUR FATHER when ever i take her out...

Screw your courage to the sticking place.

                        Ok...and your question is
Traffic ride...what was difficult? Pain on wrist? Forward leaning? Or don't tell me the bike wasn't pulling you enough, that's the last thing I want to hear!!!

Not really; but be careful though; do not pull too much on a new engine or atleast till the first oil change.

Edit - Pls stop calling me sir, I'm not working in a school

one basic but very important: what about Anti rotation?
There are many things which need to be considered.

Coming to anti rotation only, in panic braking RH handlebar will get loaded and work as spanner to loosen the thread. resulting in handlebar swivelling forward.
The anti rotation prip on handlebar and circlip on inner tube are very important.
There's lot to it other than saddle....

RG can u be specific abt wht RPMs i must maintain and gear speeds till the first oil change, see i dont have info on tht,so it worries me.
