  • Why The engine sounds so rough after 8500 ? I test drove two bikes, they behaved in the same manner, ( The first one was sounding more harsh than RTR after 9000) though this harshness is not accompanied by any vibes, any where ( read pegs, handlebar, tank ), at all.

Change the engine oil; from the owner's experience here, I'm planning to test with 10W30 SS during my next service.

      • Is Nitrogen Recommended for CBR Tyres

I have recently (2 weeks back) inflated my CBR tires with Nitrogen and below are my observations:

        1) Noticed the difference in handling , I feel its little bit bouncy ride
        2) Increased fuel efficiency at least by 2 km/pl (in city I was getting 32 km/pl now its increased to 34 km/pl)
        3) I read in Google that its safer at high speeds, but I did not notice any difference.

Is it safe to use Nitrogen in Two Wheelers? Especially in CBRs ?

        • @RG: Sorry if the same has been already discussed somewhere on the same thread but right now I neither have time nor required patience to look for the same so I will opt for the easier option here and shoot a question.

What's with Engine refinement and different grade of oil? What's the recommended oil by HMSI? Is there a solution to make the engine a smooth operator as this one is an exception among butter smooth Honda engines.

I am sorry if this is OT, but if someone is trying to answer the question posted by sumantg, then please do answer my question as well,
            1. The only reason logical to say that N2 filled vehicles give out a better mileage is because N2 is a lighter gas in comparison, now the question is , By how much and does it really matter? Normal air filled tyres contains approximately 78% of Nitrogen. The rest 18 percent is Oxygen. We would be replacing this 18 percent with a lighter gas, how lighter exactly? The molecular weight of one mole of O2 is 32 and that of Nitrogen is 28. Now thats around 12.5% lighter than normal air, sounds great on paper right? But wait, that weight gain is only 12.5% on every 18%. That's around 2.25% decrease in the weight. The total weight of air in your bike tyres might come around to say 2-3 kilos at the max(This is an assumption btw). 2.25% of 3 kilos is 67.5 grams. Thats like removing your grab rails, Do you really think it makes a difference? Anyone more knowledgeable please excuse me if I have made a blunder, (I studied/used chemistry for the last time over 6 years ago )
2.The only foreseeable advantage I would see here is that, N2 is comparatively a less reactive gas, while O2 goes and mixes with almost all metals/substances to form oxides over time, which would either corrode the inner walls of the rim or just heat up. N2 keeps the temperature inside a little lower in comparison.
3.In the unlikely event of a tyre burst, The immediate spark wouldnt set off anything on fire, because of the absence of duhhh, oxygen. But how likely is it that this will happen to us? (Please ignore if you are a lost F1 driver wandering the roads on a motorcycle)

I am not an expert, I am only using my logic and knowledge to arrive at possible advantages of using N2 instead of O2 and IMHO, i dont see any considerable/even marginal increase in performance.

At the HMSI Camp at Om Sai honda, Kandivali, 10W30 was highly recommended for better performance. And they insisted to use ONLY Honda Throttle and no other engine oil however, they did not comment on warranty issues arising out of using third party engine oil.

I used to use Nitrogen on my Pulsar. The biggest advantage I felt was that the bike wouldn't loose air quickly. Infact air wouldn't come out at all!!! Never found increase in fuel efficiency though but I suspect over a longer duration say 3-6 months, the law of averages would help attain better mileage

And yes it does make tubeless bikes more bouncy than what they already are!

My front wheel is bent and air leakage is there, at around 1 PSI per day, so I am planning to shift to Nitrogen myself. Lets see how much it will helps.

              • I found no difference in performance on using Nitrogen in my bike.
Only thing is, it lasts really long-pressure drops by hardly 1-2 points in a month so the need to refill is much lesser!
                Quench my thirst with gasoline!

I wanted to know how they arrest the vibes; was there any rubber dampings etc or simply they tightened all the bolts. That still remains unanswered. All others are diplomatic answers
The vibes are related to shims only if they exists across the entire rpm range as per the engine head person.
also he said that head assembly to be messed with only if you know for sure what is to be done else you end up creating more trouble
others are related to improper fittings--some with radiator (didnt understand how ) -- & chain sets
no rubber dampings discussed or advised

my bike is running well from the day i bought it. though it had clocked just 700km's till date. But, im enjoying every single day i sit on it. Be it in city traffic or national highways. Loving it.
                  I know-- I know
but giving to vihaan & meeting the honda guys at the same time was a happy co incidence so yes am pretty much satisfied now
goto vihaan for your 1st service ( which should be now atleast for engine oil & filter) & see for yourself too

Well, I can read number plates when I do 5K RPM on 6th gear through RVM, minutest vibes at 6K RPM & increases there after. Its not like the vibes push me down, but, certainly more than a bike with 1000 on ODO!!!

                    • Hi guys,

Has anybody filled in or topped up the coolant? In the manual it mentions that the coolant is to be filled in the reserve tank, where as my service advisor as well as the sales rep says that it is to be added in the radiator which the manual strictly doesn't recommend.

                      Kindly advice.

P.S. Also would like to mention that the service advisor said that the coolant once filled will serve for atleast 36,000 kms... Do you buy this fact??

Just got it filled. They charged me 60 rs for the same and they filled it in the reservoir. Mech insisted that it should be filled from the reservoir and not the radiator.

brake pads of P220 can be interchanged only for the standard version, sir. But Ram was talking about all ABS equipped CBR's.
