1. Is it a good idea to buy a CBR250R now or wait for CBR300R?
2. Being from Chennai, which dealers are good? Didar, Kun, JSP, Manasarovar? Which dealer has better service facilities of these?
I had a CBR 2013 model last year and serviced at Kun-adayar. They have separate bays for CBRs 150 and 250, so you wont have to wait behind Unicorns and Activas. The managers and workshop attendants too are different, so your premium experience is guaranteed. However, like other low volume products, CBR parts and common spares (brake levers, gear pedal etc) are always in short supply. I used to commute 50kms (25 x2) and always picked early morning and early return. CBR is not good in dense traffic due to crouched riding position + large turning radius + tall gearing/power (you can ride only in 1st gear below 15kmph).

I sold off my CBR250 due to the above reasons...even though I liked the CBR's power delivery and big bike feel. It would have made a good track bike / weekend bike, but not a commuter. It can commute for 10-15kms, but 50x2 = 100kms per day for you... you should seriously consider a mainstream bike or a standard bike with upright riding position.

I bought a Hero Impulse in a great pricing discount...and my commutes are now pleasurable. OK, power got downgraded from 25bhp to 14bhp...but Impulse is a twist and go...jump over potholes bike for me. I ve even taken it to Arunachal! yes a long way from home.

I assume you are 28yr old - so you can pick from the following Pulsar 200NS (or sport ver for better lights), Honda Trigger 150, Impulse...

Don't know how to get one at earliest. Thinking of calling up dealers in Kanchipuram and finding out if they have an ABS model available.
You can look at used bike market too. just bargain hard as there are hardly ay buyers in Chennai. I sold mine for less than 1lakh (1yr, 8000km)

Yah the impulse... nice ride. Would want one too... but at the cost of my ceeber? The one that gives me orgasms on bendies or curves... never.

But hey Arunachal from Chennai on an Impulse... post up a thread bro. Would love a read like that. Congrats.

50 kms will be in Chennai bypass. So ABS I feel is mandatory. Thats why the decision to buy a CBR. Somehow don't fancy a normal bike. Already have a Stunner. If it's a normal bike then I would ride the Stunner daily. But wan't a better bike and ABS is a factor and CBR's soft suspension is also a factor in my buying decision. Will be a boon on long tours.

One more doubt, people complain spares of CBR250R are very hard to access. Will situation worsen over the days? If CBR300R is launched will getting spares for 250R be very tough?

Absolutely fantastic bike to do 50kms highways or touring. So well balanced when you start becoming one with this machine, one advise, learn how to posture yourself and transfer weight on a sports tourer or a Sports bike... That will make a world of a difference to how well a ceeber can be handled, even in city traffic.

What I do is I pre-buy replacables like brake pads, spark plug, cables etc (small items) that I also take as spares on long tours. I then use them only when the ASC informs me that one of those replacable spares aren't available. But personally haven't come across too much of that problem though.

And frankly no way to be fully sure of the spares situation, it could also get better once the 300r is released... never know.

Totally agree. Fantastic bike for touring. Visited all bike dealers in Chennai. Say they have a waiting period of 3-4 months. It wasn't so even during launch. During launch there was a waiting period of 1-2 months. Every dealer is not willing to commit. They have no clue about delivery. They just want to clear the stocks so ask me to buy Non-ABS version. Also, I don't like the look of CBR300R. So waiting for 3-4 months for that is not ok for me. One dealer has white Tri colour ABS version but I dont like this color personally. Caught up in different minds now. Might also consider the Duke200. The hard seat in Duke and no ABS make me think. One dealer mentioned they will take booking and inform Honda and once they get sufficient bookings they will manufacture a lot of bikes. Thats why it takes 3-4 months.

They are Hard Compound Or not ? Are they available in correct Size (140/70 R17 & 110/70 R17) ?

What kind of facility needed to change the CBR tyre ?
dont go with complete hard compound.. conti's were and example.. no wera and tear but tyre with start cracking over a period of time.
dunlop witll be easily available..

i have front IRC's and Rear Dunlop and the combo works very well...
dunlop is medium compound and acts like soft compound when heated so in city less wear and tear and you will have good grip on highways.
wet roads are a diffrent case all together. havent come across a tyre in CBR that wont fishtail when roads are wet...

but then dunlop worked well even on wet roads.. lemme show you some hell that i gave it.. you'd get an idea..

Its time you replaced it.
Do not use the same air filter after cleaning it. It causes the filter pores to open up even more than the usual which lets in more air and dirt into the engine.

so REPLACE it.

Ride safe on bypass roads, esp during monsoon.

Spares are always a problem in India, even for ZMAs. So, you need to be good friends with the Honda Service manager! Also, I think CBR300 and CBR250 share most parts (except the cylinder and some body cladding and meter console color)...so you should be OK. Remember, the resale value of CBR250 wasn't great even in 2012/2013, so expect a steep drop if 300r is launched.

Cant you buy a used CBR250R? Unlike other bikes, CBRs are idiot-proof... means a dumb owner cannot screw it up. Try looking for a well-kept used one...cant be that hard.

have not yet put up a travelogue .. but will be putting up soon..
and trust me that pic is the easiest of obstacle i have put up... most of the bad roads arent clicked by us for the sole reason the weather was worst this year compared to last 5 years as told to us by people doing regular rides and locals there.. there were times we did 15 km in 4 hours.. Yes 15 KM in 4 Hours.. with no traffic.. just us.. and it was a decend and not an incline..

just slush and boulders and ice cold water.. almost bone chilling wind.. snowfall and rains..

the CBR did not bottow out even once.. did not fall once.. did not fishtail once.. did not skid.. never gave up..
early morning frozen starts: first thumb in the morning and the engine was at life..
tyre did not loose a psi..
brakes always were there..
no tantrums..
went flying through slush and gravel when others were struggling to ride in 1st gear it was doing in 5th-6th doing 90's..

and still gave me 40 kmpl yes.. i mean it.. 40..
and this is was a ride. .with was already done 3.5k after service. was not serviced. just chain adjusted.
ran same tyres which already served 12k km in city and highway..
same old engine oil
no coolant top-up. basically just a wash and took it as it is..

always kept a range rover in the rear mirror for km's together in snowfall and rain... ( oops.. .this was the most fun part )..

Epic... oh how I love this bike. The best part was hearing you say one finger cold starts at sub zero temps. I've been Leh'd on a 97 model Bullet that I owned during college days... Absolutely remember the frozen kick lever and the barrage of little niggles that come with the bike like electrical probs, tuning, rain probs, clutch lever problems, inefficient braking while decline etc...

Been dying to take this baby there and boy your tales are an encouragement I must say... Brilliant... CBR250r is an absolute sit down and fly bike... no tensions.

Love it man... do put up your log or pm me the link of you blog it outside.

Is it safe to wash the bike after coming from a rainy ride. All the mud and dirt gets harder if it remains on the bike. Just curious to know whether it is safe to lightly wash the bike after using it for 30 - 40 mins. Is it safe to spraying cold water as the engine and all other parts are hot.

Keeping clean our rides during monsoon is very difficult in our country. How do you people maintain it ?

since the time i came back from my marathon leaves.. office work is what i am stuck with.. the travelogue will be up soon.
there were times when the ninja would not start and not make power and we had to reset the ECU . had to get the carb of the zma wired
and what not and some or the other issues..

this baby.. was always at home.. no niggles.. no drama.. fill fuel and keep riding.. enjoying the views and forget about mechanical/electrical failures issues.
this was one thing that made my trip more joyful as i never was worried about the machine...

yes it is safe to wash the bike anytime however if the engine is hot its always suggested to avoid cold water wash just after riding it.
you can wash it once the engine is warm and not hot.... definitely not just after hitting the kill switch. lots of chemistry and physics and what not in metallurgy and not good for engine health..

hypheni avoid spraying cold water on hot engine & radiator area. Wipe bike with a cloth soaked in bucket of soap/shampoo water & then rinse it off with tap water. After the radiator is cooled down you can clean the mesh with the help of a tooth brush (of some else in your room )>Don't rub hard with the wet cloth otherwise it will put on swirl marks & wash the cloth after every panel for the same.
