There is no Engine OIL filter since January 6 (since the day I start looking for) in KOLKATA,

I enquire two well known Dealership/SVC as well as Honda's Official Spare counter, But no luck.

Is it the same in all place ?

Check with Dugar Honda SVC. I did my 2nd servicing on 1st week of January and replaced OIL filter.

        Did on 2nd Jan.

Though my bike is super smooth now.... Super duper smooth, all the way till 120 kmph, the tik tik sound does exist... Valves recently adjusted, so no more experimentt their. Any other posibility?

They cannot NOT have the oil filter there, if they genuinely have no stock, they will get it in a few days, or you could try going around some small svc where not much CBR's get sold, they usually have a few stocks piled up due to lack of usage of those stocks.

Thanks for the reply, Earlier I tried Dugar Honda SVC for different reason (other parts), it situated at a very complicated location which I can't able to find myself and lost in those Lanes. Now Todi's SVC move some place which I don't know where. Anyhow Cloud 9's SVC is far more convenient from my place.

Finally today my SVC (which is Shiva Wheels) informed me they have stock only 2 of them ATM & asked me to hurry up as they hold it (First Come First Serve basis) able to change my E.Oil (which was due in November'13)....but no Coolant available when I want to buy a Coolant Bottle.

Now I can ride my bike freely again.

This Oil Filter shortage remind me the time Aug - Oct 2011 when CBR 250 just picked up sales and demand was so high it even sold here @ double price without any bill.

                Ahoy there fellas!

I have a few queries and I would love your quick advice and recommendations-

                1. If I'm going for a used CBR (2012, 10-15k on the odo) should I go for ABS only, no questions asked?
                2. Considering the bike hasn't been mistreated, for how many kms can the ContiGos last, before replacement?
                3. I've found this extremely BIZARRE CASE- a Feb 2012 CBR 250 STD is for sale in M'bai (Kalyan area). And it's got 675 kms on the odo. No, that's not a typo. Under SEVEN HUNDRED kms in ~2 yrs. It's been apparently serviced twice (hopefully oil change etc done as per manual. What's the potential for engine damage with such kinda running-in? Should I even consider this bike??
EDIT- He's quoted around 1.10 L and claims he has the service history from SVC

Needless to say, I'm lookin for a machine that I won't have to incur any heavy expense on by way of parts (apart from regular spares)
Also, please note that this would be 3rd bike till now and my braking skills are pretty sorted- I use lot of engine braking on my current '08 P200 that has worn out tyres and a rear drum

Buying a used bike is always a gamble , especially with those weird odo readings and all. So on that issue, I'd advise, if you know the guy who is the current owner then you could strike a good deal there or tracking anyway if the guy actually rode more than that what he claims, if so then drop that idea. If it would be me , i'd not consider it at all. That peace of mind will be missing.

                  Now answer to Q1
Depends, if the price is good, the Non-ABS is not in anyway different or lower in performance than the ABS , model, but if you feel ABS is necessary, then go for the ABS model.

Q2 The Contigo's are really hard to wear out, they seem to be really adamant in that way.. :-P 22-23k would be a safe bet i guess.

I don't know this chap personally, so I will have to rely on the svc history from Honda

Fellow riders have given a split verdict- some insist only ABS while others say STD is fine if your braking skills are upto the mark.
It's a little tough to ascertain if I need it in dry conditions- I've hardly ridden a STD Cbr to form an opinion on braking. In rains, yes I would go with an ABS bike

Is there any PDI checklist for used bikes that I can put the bike through?
A brief laundry list would suffice.
I've read the FAQs and the wealth of info they provide- Posts # 7500, 7600 and 8200. But I Guess a used bike would need some more scrutiny?

Well, actually for a used bike, a good mechanic and the full svc record should be enough, that should give you a good idea.

ODO may have been changed, while I changed my ODO the SVC didn't record old ODO reading prior to change, hence they would not have proper service history/ mileage records.

Erm...that's a lil scary! And going by the quality of Honda service here, won;t be surprised if that's what's happened in this case too!

My preference is an ABS bike. It's taking some time to find a good deal and this guy's been insisting that I take a look at his bike, it's virtually brand new. Hence thought I'll take it lil more seriously before I go to test ride it, negotiate the price, yada yada yada....

Such places never keep stock of anything. I recently changed my SVC to one such. They dont even have fork oil seal/brake pad. Only reason I am at their SVC is due to the well informed and well behaved svc guy(most of the time he works on Activa though ).
