Guys - One small update on Engine oil...

I've been using Shell 10W40 Advanced Ultra for over 25K+ Km now & have found the engine oil is way too superior because of the following experiences...
- Engine & gear shifts are very very smooth compared to Motul 10W40 300V Factoryline or HMSI's engine oil
- Due to circumstances, I was unable to change the Shell Engine oil on a trip of 7400+ Km & still the engine oil performed flawless in gear shifts or engine smoothness or when riding swiftly. I finally changed after the trip & it was around 7415 Km
- Other useless points are like, engine temperature was always 3 bars on speedo & there was no roughness or starting troubles observed in colder temperatures (read GJ during the month of Dec)

Verdict - Motul may be good, but certainly expensive than Shell 10W40 Advanced Ultra; this is the best money can buy for your CBR 250R

Edit - One more point, the engine oil level needs to be checked very rarely & I might have had to top up about 100 ml or so in the entire 7400+ Km for only once.

Edit - Here's how it should look...

Glad to know.
I was about to pop up the question regarding the engine oil as whether anyone here has used shell FS oil.

BTW, an update regarding Michelin pilot street radial:
Went on an one day ride to kodaikanal yesterday, did some good cornering (though couldn't scrap my knees) & not even once i felt the bike was about to loose the line on wet and broken roads. They literally stick to the road and inspires confidence to the rider.
If anyone looking for a tyre upgrade on CBR250R I'd highly recommend Michelin pilot street radials if the budget permits.

Hi Guys,

what the official scoop on MRF tyre. I visited the Showroom today for booking bike hoping to get one with MRF tyre, but I was bluntly told that CBR 250R does not come with MRF tyre. It only comes with Contigo. I was shocked and I said that there are some friends (Read XBHP members ) who have taken delivery with MRF's. He bluntly said no chance. They must have made a deal with the showroom people. No way 250 comes with MRF. CBR 150 comes with MRF and TVS tyre. There is option to choose there.

The showroom guy even said that the other places may have just swapped tyre with the 150r tyre and sold it.

I have not booked my bike yet. Am hoping for some clarity.

Change the showroom ASAP and give him a piece of your mind!

150R comes with 130 section tires and 250R with 140. They simply can't be swapped without the customer noticing it. CBR 250R does come with MRF tires, but only at certain dealers' in certain cities. In fact, Michelin also has tires for the 250R now. But, you won't get them at the dealer, rather you can trade your Conti's for them at a separate tire sop.

Some really helpful updates. Thanks guys... Would've popped these questions in the thread otherwise. I will probably be switching over from OEM oil to Shell Advanced Ultra as well as Michelin Pilot Street Radials.
icemang About the alloys, I have had a slight wheel dent from about a year and a half back (nothing significant) which ive been just treating like the the ol 1970 Fiat rim (Run it dont bother)... But also got the upper lip of the wheel bent by a stone that hit it I guess recently (you can visually see it but absolutely no changes in the way the ride feels). I am due to change the alloys soon so thanks a ton for the info and discussion mate. Much appreciated.

Vykier, doesn't it affect your handling under challenging conditions? (Read: Heavy braking, tramlining and ridges, cornering) I don't notice any difference when cruising on a straight road, even at high speeds, but I can feel the some instability if I were to make an emerency braking, and the worst is if I catch a tramline at speed.

Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!

I would also think so... I'm a guy who likes cornering and the nuances of little balance shifts and its effects on the CBR... Love the refinement of the ride which allows us that smooth latitude for doing things on this bike, I'd say its effected that to about 0.8% (almost negligible)... And if it comes to a point where it wobbles or changes lines by itself i'd be riding straight an ASC to get the alloys changed... However I don't experience changes in critical areas and the wheels/brakes still function bang on... but yeah the fear of cracking the alloys is something I do dwell about and need to get it changed even if only for my peace of mind.

Although being a CBR owner who has experienced it in its smoothest 100% form, that little 0.8% is a nag eventually... I know i'm kinda contradictory here... Thats why I need to get those front alloys replaced.

Different Topic: Do you guys remember the recall of our bikes in Dec 2012, for altering the front disk sumps (all non-abs CBR's in a particular batch were recalled)... I remember my brakes were extremely touchy and could be even operated well with the force of a little finger... They replaced it with something that gave it a wee bit more feedback but they did a fantastic job though... The way a non-ABS can be controlled is just phenomenal, there are times when i'm madly auto drifting with my own version of a combi-ABS (human controlled) and it feels wildly extremely satisfactory... I have changed brake pads once on both and once replaced only the rear brake pads in all its 16k kms life yet... Thats the normal i'm guessing for someone who uses engine braking.

That takes me to the chains... I guess I'll be due in for the first chain replacement in another 1k kms but i'd rather get it done now, I like tightish, fully retracted chains. Anyone using any other set of chains? Which ones? Whats the experience like?

Another Different topic: I'm gonna start a bitter pill here... Am I the only one who is okay with Conti's? I'm not saying they're the best - not at all, I'd be changing over to Michelins soon but these contis have served me well, 16,000 kms of abuse including burnouts, aggressive cornering, Hard/Pushy non ABS braking (sometimes I ride it like a bicycle where I end up dragging my back tyres), Wheelspins while launching from surfaces that show affinity to it. I've ridden it nicely and thoroughly abused it as well... The tyre threads somehow still seem hardly used. What barter rates do the tyre shops offer normally for a pair of conti's if exchanged with say Michelins.. Any idea anyone?

Right then... i think ive blabbered on enough ... except for this Disclaimer - I DO NOT stunt around in public places to cause inconvenience to others.

All hail the ride!

Yup. I know. Thats why I said, its low profile. i.e, diameter will be reduced a bit. And hence better performance...

Guys, a quick question:

What would be the price of a 1 year old CBR250R STD version in a city like bangalore, chennai, hyderabad (considering all have very similar taxes etc.)

Its only 8K / 1 year old. Good condition.

The owner is demanding 1.25L
