By the way, really nice helmet; from where did you get this and how much? Is that custom stickering?

Thanks guys. The helmet is a vega, gloves are cramster TRG-2.
I was looking for something like LS2 Crown, but none of the shops had it and I was told they will receive fresh stocks in a month of so. So I bought this Vega for now. Also bought sticker sheets, and did the work myself. Took me about 10 minutes.
How much engine heat is normal? i.e. how many bars?
@anupamonwheels, you are correct. I took a stop of about 10 minutes there, because of the engine heat. This was around 6pm, so more than a dozen cops saw me. But noone said anything.

First service experience by a duke owner & Friend.
Total cost.. 240/- (140 for oil filter and 100 for OKS chain lube) Engine oil provided by him (motul 7100)
Mud gaurd and fender ke neeche it was not properly clean.. I am not impressed with the washing.. and also I have done the coating from there.. in 700/- that was also not so cool.. it looks shiny on orange parts but he has just done the job.. he should have spent some more time.
Service done in 2 hours.
Positives about the service:
1. they were attending very well
2. Listing all things and also taking care of priority of it
3. Parts are goin to be very cheep
.. cos I have asked about tank (orange part of tank including the black part in front side) .. and it was of 1000/- inr
4. Company recomended chain lube is used and which is very good on price and given back the rest of it
Negatives :
1. Washing and cleaning was not good
we can do better at home ).
2. Coating/polish was also not worth the money given
now I would have to clean the underbody and pudguard inner parts myself on weekend..30+ YEARS OF RIDING

Stalling Issue:
Having completed the first service about 60Kms after this there is still a stalling issue in my bike, I have noticed that when I rev hard say cross 8000RPM and then come to a halt, the bike stays in Idle. as soon as its time to move putting the bike in first gear stalls it. Then it will not start till its switched off and back on again. Has anyone else faced this issue?
Rear Brake Caliper:
I've noticed that the rear brake caliper is not firm and is loose. Is it meant to be that way? If I hold it and move it can move side ways very very slightly.
I crossed 110Kph on the Duke today and it fires like a bullet, high speed riding is pure fun!

If you are in a good long drive(driving continuously at a decent speed) it will be 3-4 bars short of full(excluding the 2 bars meant for indicating engine overheat). If its really really hot and you are in bumper to bumper traffic it gets upto one bar short of the acceptable maximum.Originally posted by A_n_i View PostThanks guys. Boss, I beg to differ with you. All these problems can't be termed as major problems with a new bike. First of all there is no coolant leakage - it's coolant spillage or overflow. That too when the level is close to or over the MAX level. Next the petrol tank spillage is also rare and still a minor issue. I haven't faced it yet. Chain sound is a real problem with almost all the Dukes(Me too faced the same, but after the SVC guyz fixed it, it's almost fine). Exhaust color is an phenomenon instead of an issue. As already discussed in this thread it's a normal and natural effect which is not unique to Duke. Now it's a personal choice whether you like it or not. For an instance, even after knowing it's normal I won't be much happy if I observe this in my Bike.Originally posted by Venkat 333 View PostHi.. my advice is to wait for 2- 3 weeks more as there is still more to know about this duke...
we already came across the problems like coolant oil leakage, exhaust color, petrol tank spilling, chain sounds and newly emerging problem forks oil leakage. Here this leads to question about bikes longevity or durability......
.
Even the fork oil leakage is rare. Not even 10% of the owners have reported this in this thread.
According to me, the major issue with this bike is the overheating issue which is faced by everyone and doesn't have an answer till date. So all other reported issues are not that critical. If you go through any Apache owners thread you'll find that the Vibration issue and the poor tires quality are two issues faced by everyone without any remedy. So in my view that's a real problem. Let's wait for a few days or maybe months more to check whether Duke has anything like this.
Can you upload the picture of the bulb and if possible specs and any link?Originally posted by Rajathslr View PostTadaaa !!!!....My babys milk teeth...
I haven't faced this issue as I haven't crossed 8K RPM yet. But I have observed that after a spirited riding when I keep the Bike in neutral, it needs more than adequate level of throttle to start rolling in 1st gear.Originally posted by spiralbrain View PostStalling Issue:

I have too noticed that the rear brake caliper is not firm and slightly loose. Is this because it's floating caliper????
Provided by him means provided by your friend, right? So he got two 1 litre pack of motul 7100 and asked them to use it. Now they must have returned the rest 600 ml of the lube to your friend, right?Originally posted by Janesh.J View PostTotal cost.. 240/- (140 for oil filter and 100 for OKS chain lube) Engine oil provided by him (motul 7100)

Thank god, the parts will be cheap. I was told the the Rim of the Ninja costs some 27K !!!
In Bold.Originally posted by A_n_i View PostThanks guys. The helmet is a vega, gloves are cramster TRG-2. - How much you paid for the Helmet and Gloves? Also from which shop?
..............
How much engine heat is normal? i.e. how many bars? - Not sure whether you wanted to know what's normal for Duke or what's normal for any 200 cc performance Bike. If you wan't to know about Duke then it anything less than the cutoff range in the Display is normal. After riding for some 2 - 5 minutes you'll see it's just 2 - 4 bars below the cutoff temp. And after riding hard it goes upto maybe 0 - 1 bar below the cutoff. However, I haven't encountered any situation yet where it has crossed the cutoff. If it crosses the cutoff you need to stop the bike immediately and let it cool for sometime and then ride again. Not sure any other 200 cc performance bike behaves like this or not??
@anupamonwheels, you are correct. I took a stop of about 10 minutes there, because of the engine heat. This was around 6pm, so more than a dozen cops saw me. But noone said anything.
- That was your lucky day
, coz rules around that area are strict. However, cops are quite busy controlling the traffic so they get less chance to check out the Bikers. Only sometime they choose that place for routine checkup and come up with the speed tracker, then it turns to be an unlucky day with every Biker/Car driver crossing that area.
Though I am not an expert of USD forks, but I do consider them as precision equipment. However, it would take a few more days for me to form any opinion on those USD forks of Duke.Originally posted by The Mountain View PostGood grief you people are hung up on "low quality". First it was the header pipe, now the fork. Don't think along the lines of "low quality", think rather "precision equipment"......
Why not they are accepting Driving license there?? I think it's accetped here in Kolkata. Also, Me too didn't have any of those documents, so I provided my rent agreement and the PBK here went with the registration process from one specific RTO(Barasat) which is more liberal I think.Originally posted by Doga View PostThanks Anupam. Problem is I can't wait to lay my hands on the bike anymore. The bigger problem is I don't have anyone of the 'important' docs barring PAN card, driving license and company ID. No passport, no ration card, no Voter's ID. .........
Also, please provide a PDI list if you can, keeping in mind common issues with the dukes.
I have faced this issue before. For my last bike I have done something else. I got the Bike from Kolkata. As I didn't have any recommended docs I went for a temporary registration. after that I took my bike to my hometown(Asansol) and got it registered permenantly there(I had documents with addresses reflecting that of my Permanant Home in Asansol). Can't you proceed in this way? Also, have you enquired about the "Nationalised Bank Account Address" thing? If they are ready to accept that it'll be easy for you.
I have never observed the 3 - 4 bars short of full scenario in a long drive.Originally posted by sriram90 View PostIf you are in a good long drive(driving continuously at a decent speed) it will be 3-4 bars short of full(excluding the 2 bars meant for indicating engine overheat). Nice work with the helmet stickers dude
If it reaches to the maximum(touching the cutoff or 1 bar short of it) it never comes back to 3-4 bar short stage(max 1 or 2 bars below cutoff).

regarding this heat thing
i rode for about 80 mins on highway , 1st the heat bar's was 4 bars and later raised to 5 and after sometime came to 4th bar , and i couldn't feel any heat that time , and then i returned back to city and in bumper to bumper traffic , the heat was un-bearable that i couldn't ride anymore
so i conclude saying that , in long drives the engine doesn't get hot very easily but in traffic due to more strain on engine it gets heated up pretty quickly

Everyone else say the same too, I guess I need to change my riding style in that case. Thanks for enlightening me on floating calipers, what an ingenious idea, the pads put equal pressure on the disc in all cases and no alignment necessary.Originally posted by AnupamOnWheels View Post

That maybe because during my drive I never went past 66kmph. The delivery guy told me not to take it past 5000rpm. Ive done almost 700kms. Next time I hit a highway I will know how hot it gets.Originally posted by AnupamOnWheels View PostI have never observed the 3 - 4 bars short of full scenario in a long drive.

Good one bro.. have u changed only the lower bulb or also the main headlight?Originally posted by Rajathslr View PostTadaaa !!!!....My babys milk teeth...
Even i faced this problem at lower gears (1st and 2nd) @ lower RPM. It still happens occasionally.Originally posted by spiralbrain View PostStalling Issue:

Secondly, after riding the bike at higher speed (130+) when i stop the engine by the engine kill switch, the bike just won't start again.. I have to accelerate a bit to start it. or switch off the bike with the key and start again. Then it would do just fine.
Waiting for the KTM guys to revert on this to me..The best alarm clock is sunshine on chrome.

There's no "normal" bar indicators, till the 1st service the bike WILL heat up fair bit, & after the 1st service it'll subside down.Originally posted by A_n_i View PostHow much engine heat is normal? i.e. how many bars?
The fan starts off when there are 2 bars left and will stay on till the engine cools down. Once the fan starts it starts throwing hot air towards the rider..which will feel really hot
For me the oil filter was Rs.70 and the we got the OKS chain lube free during our DIY session with KTM.Originally posted by Janesh.J View PostTotal cost.. 240/- (140 for oil filter and 100 for OKS chain lube) Engine oil provided by him (motul 7100)
