      • Hi All,

This is my first post on xBhp though I have been following this forum awhile. I got the Duke recently and its ~1750 km old. I probably wont have too much to contribute to this thread given the wealth of information already present here. The Buying experience was tolerable, given the rush which the sales executive was in to get me to book the bike; I paid the amount up front and the bike was delivered in around 4 days time. The first service happened at the Khivraj service centre itself. Nothing much to report, except an oil change. I had also felt that that the left handle bar was slightly higher than the right and indicated this during the 1st service to the executive, but the bike came back unchanged. More on this later. I also tried out a few speed runs on NICE road where I was able to touch ~127 kmph according to the speedo. I did not push beyond this, since I felt the wind blast made the bike slightly wobbly at those speeds (I was flat on the tank, hugging the bike as far as possible). In the days to come, I plan to try this again and see if I can work up the courage to push the bike to its top speed (130-135 ? My bike was bought in september, so would it have the new ecu map referred to earlier in this thread by default ?). I also got myself an LS2 Galaxy helmet, the Cramster Breezer v4.0 jacket and a pair of spartan ARES gloves.

Now, regarding my issue with the handle bar, I got the service exec to ride the bike, but he did not observe the phenomenon himself. I still notice this issue, tried seating myself upright etc. Can anyone offer suggestions or things to try to help localize this problem to, say, the handle bar or the front forks, or simply an issue with seating position ? Any help in this regard is much appreciated. I posted this here because I am not convinced its to do with the handle bar itself, but am unable to pin down this issue. The service reps are open to looking at this problem further, but if possible, I would like to offer more definitive information in this regard.

Awsome, Congrats Ankit..I didn't know the delivery of the new colors had started already, or maybe i've not been following this thread enough. but the black does give it a different look. I agree with sivigshankar that highlighting the alloys would have been a great idea. however since they missed it out..it gives you a chance to bring in your own creativity.
Congrats again. Enjoy the ride and ride safe

thanks bro, yaah white alloys or florescent orange alloys will do magic to the bike.
I was already planning to buy an orange duke then make it matt black.. but they have released black so now creativity on to alloys...

            • Hey Guys... Could anyone confirm/correct some of the following facts here about the Duke :
              1. Is there a limit on the revs till a certain range after which can be released w/o violating the terms?
              2. Has anyone tried to remove the rev & the top speed/max out rev limiter?
              3. How do u put your experience in touring with this Awesome Beast ( comfort, cruising speeds, other key points ) ?
              4. KTM does offer a few add-ons, following with power parts to be soon introduced here in India, Any other recommended places in Bangalore might anyone suggest to look for something similar to the add-ons they r offering, bit cheaper but genuine in quality?

I have plans to buy This Monstrous Beauty by next year too. I guess u all can understand the love I feel for her just by test riding it for a few times.. So please help me out with my curiosity.

Well there are rpm or rev indiactor light at two points. They can be changed too. They just indicate the value of RPM of the engine which is set. Nothing more.
Yess the rev limiter located at 10500rpms can be removed. Lots of ECU upgrades people are doing have removed the rev limiter to 11500rpms. KIIRUS have been doing this. They cost 10000INR. Not a VFM job ...i mean its just a rev limiter removing no major remaps etc.
As far as touring is concerned its fine. Broad and high hamdle bars make you feel rested and nicely planted. Nice cruising can be done at 80kph with few short bursts of 100kph too..with a lil vibes in from handlebars. Cruising in hill areas its a treat. Fuel efficiency is nice and mellow at 44-55kpl at highways. at 60kmph. Depends how your hand is on throttle.
and go ahead buy it.. Its damn awesome. Ill be buying a Duke 390 too whenever its out.

Okay.. I knew about the point that we can set 2 levels of RPM limits at which the light glows to indicate shifts. So apart from that, only a limit which holds it at that top speed, right? 10k to remove that is certainly a hell lot than expected. But the point about the vibes was the 1st... Never actually heard anyone putting any concerns about vibes before. I mean every bike will have vibes, felt or negligible, but still, given it's make, I believed it to be negligible for the Duke. But, like I'd said previously, The love for this monstrous beauty is understandable .

                  • Another quick couple of queries friends-

How much mileage are you guys able to pull outta this monstrous beauty??
Also, comparing to the CBR250R, if any have experienced or gathered knowledge on/about both, what ups & downs can you list?? ( appreciate the excuse if an inappropriate query to this thread, but I hope it's understood )

Thread has gone down slow a little. people are hopping in less. Regularly i refresh everyday for updates etc...nothing.
Anyways so what im getting is 33-40kmpl in city. Highway it returns 45kpl often 48-50 kpl too.
Downsides may vary person to person. What i think on Duke is the tyres. Soft compound and nice but minute you go in a little fine gravel it looses its bite. Well being quite slick they'll do so but a good brand than MRF will do some good. If one is a tourer surely will opt for another ones. Although guys have been to ladakh on stock ones. I wont compare it with CBR. Its a diff thing. Duke is bruff. Its awesome.

                      • Did Mumbai Pune ride in the weekend. This was my first 'longish' ride.

                        Some observations:

The road : Fantastic stretch of tarmac the NH4. Lovely winding roads with nary a sight of a pothole. These are the roads one buys bikes to ride on.

The bike : Lovely round the corners. Handled great. Did not huff much at all near the Lonavla climbs barring one corner where power loss was very apparent.I had to downshift to 2 to get going.

Maintaining 110 is no problem with the Duke. Anything more for sustained periods and you know the engine is not as happy Also I was not to perturbed with the windblasts really. It was pretty serene and smooth.

The riding position is beautiful for long stretches. Also the seat, surprisingly, didn't bother.I was expecting a sore bum but it was ok.

On the way back I had to refuel at the Dehu road pump. When I asked what is the octane number , I was told '2'. But seriously was it 87 RON ? Because I could notice something strange on the way back.

The bike refused to go beyond 120 and while I was cruising at 97-98 and twisted the throttle, the engine suddenly would start sounding very very harsh and the bike won't immediately add speeds. Whether this was because of the fuel or was a soon to be seized engine's cry, I know not.
The hero always RIDES into the sunset!

I felt the tyres were really good, best in class kinda..
I am trying to be involved in all the threads that interest me. Finally getting the swing of it.
& the mileage is really remarkable. Wonder if its coming out to be similar with rest of the gang too..
I wouldn't have tried to compare it with the CBR, but as the state remains, I have to. U see, I'm more into the sports types, have always been. But the Duke200 has given me a new line of thought. I will never deny that its purely monstrous beauty, especially in Indian crosses.

I wonder what all the KTM owners and other high end bike owners would do considering many fuel pumps are not stocking premium fuels nowadays because of the drastic drop in the offtake of this fuel. I guess then everyone would be forced to use simple unleaded petrol. Heck, i have seen Jaguars and Mercs in Mumbai using normal unleaded petrol. Surely, they are more high performance machines than the DUke.
