Dude you can make one from a local fabricator for 1200-1500 bucks. U just need to carry a pic of a padlock and let him take the measurements of your bike..

Someone on this thread posted pics of paddock stand made for CBR250R. u can go behind some pages and check that out

+1. A guy from Mumbai SVC also told me that KTM is coming up with a paddock stand for 1200-1300 bucks

Designing and fabricating one will cost around 1000, but if bajaj is bringing on for even 1200, it would be worth it as it will have better finish, hoping they bring it on soon.

Anyone noticed that the bike pickup feels different when ridden cold and when ridden hot. When hot it feels there is lack of power - what can be the reason ?

      • Brakes

I have noticed a few times that during emergency(panic) braking, the rear tire does not hold it's ground. It skids sideways. I tend to use both front and rear brakes when I require the bike stop immediately. Am I doing anything wrong here? My previous bike Apache RTR 160 stood it's ground under similar conditions.

I read somewhere in this thread itself that the stand Bajaj is coming out with does not have wheels. Without wheels it would be hard to get the stand on by a single person.

          While searching I found this

It does look nice with a wheel. The problem is I have no idea who he is or how to get in touch with him.

Bro, During panic braking and if u use the rear only, it will fishtail as the weight of the bike is thrown forward, moreover the rear is light compared to the front, as engine and exhaust account for most of the weight.

You can use both brakes, but apply the front more than rear (you may not even use rear) if u apply then do it in 70:30 (front : rear) ratio.

              DirkDiggler,

Your technique of using both the front and the rear is the right one. However, as Janesh said, higher amount of braking force should come from the front brakes because your weight transfers onto the front tyres during braking.

If you are already doing that, then you probably just need to re-train yourself for the amount of rear-brake input you provide during emergency braking. Probably the rear brake bite is better on the Duke than your previous bike.

                +1 to Janesh..

That's the way of braking on the Duke because of the riding position. It is not a regular commuter like Unicorn or something..

get used to more front braking

                Addition:

I'm afraid you're doing something wrong there! The rear disc of RTR and Duke are very different. Duke's rear has an extremely sharp bite whereas RTR's rear disc (or drum for that matter) is a lot softer.

So what you need to do is learn progressive braking on both front and rear. Increase the pressure on the levers smoothly rather than jabbing/stepping on the lever/pedal. In fact I rely on front brake for about 80% of total braking power. I just tap the rear brake pedal for stability (Or may be I'm used to that kind of braking). And, I have not skidded on either Duke or RTR in past 2 years, not once!

The Duke's front disc and the CG are so good that you don't need a rear brake in most of the cases.

That's because your Apache had weak brakes. A modern motorcycle will have a front brake strong enough to lift the rear wheel off the ground completely during a hard deceleration. Some of the lighter superbikes, with the right front tire, might even be capable of "looping" i.e. flipping forward completely. The Duke probably can't do that with just one front disc, but it should be able to lift the rear wheel a few inches at least, which is what you're experiencing the beginnings of.

As noted up-thread, during a panic stop, the weight of the bike will transfer almost completely to the front wheel (or even totally, if the rear lifts). Because of this, the rear brake is superfluous except in certain situations: trail-braking into a corner, which is so rare it's not worth discussing; and braking in low-traction conditions, where it's better to trade the increased stopping distance for the added directional stability that using the rear brake brings while decreasing the amount of braking you do with the front.

                        People,

Going for payment today. The PBK manager told me, pay the full amount and take the bike. No booking required. There are so many dukes parked in the showroom anyway. When mentioned PDI, he said PDI has already been done. I said Iwant to do a PDI, he kept silent . Don't know. Just want to get a good bike. I hate scratches and shoddy panel placements. I understand the duke has great fit and finish, but still keeping fingers crossed. He also told me I can drive around Navi Mumbai with a temp registration number and that all the bikes in the showroom already have one. Can I ?

Also, for the 3rd time, please tell me a PDI list. I am a complete novice.Discussions, lookups on online forums donot and cannot replace the 'real thing'. This is going to be my first bike. Very nervous. What should be the coolant level? How to check if the chain is taut? related stuff. I'll be going to the showroom at around 6 in the evening. Any pointers before that would be godsend.
                        Anyone, please anyone.

yes i have noticed a difference between cold n hot engine
when its hot it feels very rough and the gears engage very tightly with thud sound and feels kinda sluggish and rough but when its little warm or cold , it is fine
can anyone explain why is it so ?

                            and my other query

ive run 270 kms and the bike was all fine until i took it for a highway ride of 60kms and was under proper rpm .
                            .
and after that the next day , during the city riding i felt the gearbox very hard , and it makes thud sound whenever i upshit or down shit which was not heard earlier .
what could be the reason ?
and the gear box is pretty rough now
and while turning the bike from standstill from 1st gear
even if i leave the clutch 3-4th the bike just revs till 6k and then it starts rolling but when i tried to move from 2nd gear from standsltil it was fine

                            .
and today morning i took for 80kms spin and it behave the same , i mean that roughness and thud sound .

im highly disappointed with the bike

Well i am too looking for an explanation, but one of my friend who also has the duke told me that this will happen until the first service and oil change. After that it becomes butter smooth

This is bcoz the engine is new and when hot it becomes rough. As for the gearbox being hard, i did not face that problem, infact my gears are very easy to shift.

As for the RPM issue, visit your ASC as it would be something technical, which i cannot explain, but do post what the issues was and how it was rectified.

sorry to hijack your thread , Guys i clocked 2500Kms and bike was solid, did a non stop 120 to 125 for 2hrs from chennai to vellore when my odo was 1500kms..
                                changed oil again at 2000Kms.
changed headlamp with projector HID kit with Angel eyes, initially worried for mod.. now im ok and satisfied with the good light visibility ..
without altering the electrical circuit to avaid warranty thing..

after reading much of how to run in the bike on the net, im trying the ride it like you stole method, in every gear just to hit the redline..
though initially babied the bike for the 1000kms , and didnt want to have a performance bike behave like 100cc one..

bought MOtul 7100 and planned to change it at 5k KMS
here are some pics of the Headlight mod , its a bi xenon projector lens and a switch for dim and dip

for those who worry on the temperature thing , I forget to mention that while on the highway with constant 120 to 125 k speed and running for 2 hours non stop , still the temperature was below those two levels.. so felt very safe and happy with the liquid cooling engine no probs..
