  • DUke Experience

exactly two weeks back on this same day (monday) i was duke'd
    .
i used to ride a dio from past 3 yrs and get big performance kits on it and no sooner i felt bored of its power and thought it was time for upgrade
then came the duke in march at our place
never even thought to take this bike nor had in my mind
but all of a sudden something orangy stuck my heart and fell in love with the exhaust note
    .
then i made my mind for getting the duke and convinced my dad for it
he liked R15 and CBR 250R more than duke ( that sport bike feel )
but i was still with my decision and was struck to duke only
    .
finally booked it on thursday 20th april and got the bike on 24th april
    .
i went to the showroom at 3 in noon as i got a call that time , and i was pretty excited and went on my dio
but sad part was i gave my dio for exchange and got the duke
    .
all the paper work was done and bike was filled with minimum petrol
and the mechanic brought the bike to the entrance of the showroom
    .
i was purely in excitement and eagerness to ride it
and i sat on the bike and cranked the self and the 2stroke was sound noticeable and i tried to engage 1st gear and release the clutch and roll on , but the bike stalled ,
later i thought i better give it to my bro to ride it , before i make a fool out of myself infront of the showroom as its my first gear bike and i have no experience on a geared bike at all
    .
my bro rode it off to nearby bunk
and all the stares were on the bike
and many questions popped out from fellow riders
    kitna deti hain ?
    which company ?
i answered all of them with a grin at my face
then went and did the pooja along with my bro and i was the pillion
    .
and then after a day i took the bike for a ride ,
its my first time im driving the duke after delivery
i dont know about its power as i have no experience in geared bikes
but i felt it 1000 times more powerful than my puny DIO
    .
then later on i went for short rides in the city
and got slowly adjusted with the gears and riding position
    .
i had few issues of bike stalling at lower gears n engine heating and coolant level decrease but it was all fine after i visited the SVC.
    .
then i took it for a highway drive
all the guys was stunned seeing this orange monster , as if they saw some extra terrestrial from some other planet
    .
i ripped the bike thrice till 120
and it was a blast and slowed down later and got a mileage of 50 km/lt , i know many might be shocked with this
    .
and again i took it for a long drive on highway , again the same mileage of 50 km/lt , this time i was shocked , because i thought 1st time the speedo might have showed wrong , but this time i checked properly and did testing from reserve to reserve
    .
and i got my LS2 crown , matching one for the ride
and all used to stare as if some super bike is going
loved the attention from pedestrians on road
    .
and finally after 14 days i managed to click 500 kms
today got the chain lubed and discs cleaned !
    .
    IN SHORT
    The bike is a rocket
and goes to triple digits in seconds

im truly in love with the orange monster and don't regret my decision

    • Help uke ODO reset

I was wondering if there is way to reset the console, or more desirably, only the Odo to 0. PBK guys tell me that kms munched should be less than 150 before it's registered at the RTO and I have already clocked around 120. Registration will take at least 5-6 more days, which means curbing my newly developed instincts of just hopping on the bike and riding away for no reason at all.
If I remember correctly, there was a post in this thread which mentioned that it is possible.
Also, assuming it's possible, is it advisable to do it?

I guess the ASC guys can make it 0 or whatever number you choose .. It's possible in cars .. am sure there should be a way... Not sure they will do it cause of warranty issues....

Is it advisable, am not sure on that front.. better to wait till you get registered

I was reading the xBhp's Duke review at
The Complete xBhp Review : KTM 200 Baby Duke Mega Review

I personally definitely don't need more than 138 km/h so I'll stick with the stock sprocket, but I just couldn't help to think about it all when I saw the photo of those sprockets...

if you make the rear sprocket smaller the bike will go faster. I have tried it on my RX-100 years ago when I replaced it with a smaller sprocket from a Bajaj M80. It is at a loss of power and pickup though.

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
            The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

Yes the ABS Light is there and as per the KTM management the later versions of the Bike may have ABS either as standard or as optional. I wish that can be incorporated in our bikes also.

Your question is too generic and bit OT. Though in common sense any Liquid Cooled Bike is fitted with Liquid cooling system simply because it gets heated more and only Air cooling is not enough to control /balance the heat.
Also if a faired bike do not have proper air channeling to allow enough amount of air to reach the engine/radiator and away, that bike will feel a bit hard to control the engine heat than any naked bike. Hope this helps.

if i use motul wlil they void the warranty ?
You can use any Brand of oil till it meets/exceeds the recommended grade(20W50). No warranty void issue will be there.

Nope; Oil Cooled is where the oil is circulated via a pump to cool the engine(has only a bit similarity with the Liquid cooled system). Air Cooled means there is only Air to Cool the engine, No oil, No liquid, nothing else.

i will stick to synthetic all the time
but how about semi synthetic ?
              I guess 7100 ~ 750 - 780 Rs.
              300 V ~ 860 - 900 Rs.
Pls check online for latest/correct price. Also why semi synthetic??? I don't think Motul Semi Synth will match the grade.

You can use any type of oil any time, but you'll feel a change in performance each time you switch from Mineral >> Semi Synth >> Fully Synth. IMO go for FS right after 1st service(1000 KM) or 2000 KM whenever you like.

I don't know myself but in the reviews they say it is easy to hit that speed and that there's still some juice left................

.........but if this is right and if the additional sprocket is available then the Duke could potentially have much higher top speed on highways, if someone needs that more than the strong pick up.......
In general if you change the rear sprocket size you can play with the acceleration and top speed of any bike, but obviously within a range. It's assumed/told that by changing the sprocket the Bike could do with a bit more top speed until the same cutoff RPM.

I am shocked just because you ripped it thrice till 120 even before completeing the run-in.Unless you followed Motoman run-in method, it's never adviced to go beyond the suggested range. Bro, wait for a few days, you'll have plenty of time to do that.

Nothing is impossible, however as Duke has ECU and other gizmos and all, it might not be possible for any road side technician to resert it to 0. And I bet the PBK guyz won't do that for you even if they can, coz otherwise they could/would do that for every bike delivered to an owner saying it's never ridden(whereas many of the owners got their bike with 10 - 30 Kms on their ODO).

I dont think the odo can be reverted back to 0 unless you change the meter.
The bike can be registered irrespective of the kms run . My friend took the Duke from Trivandrum, 400kms away from here, registered it after the first service , that is atleast after 1k kms... So no worry ....
Ride, ride and ride.. But always do it responsibly..

Yes bro i am really shocked that u got a mileage of 50kmpl even after ripping it. I had gone for a 200 km ride keeping the bike between 50-80 kmph, yet i managed to get around 40kmpl (i guess as bike not yet in reserve), but never ripped it though.
Engine seems rough after the long ride, maybe will change after 1st service and oil change.
There was a bit of oil leakage from the crankcase just above the filter after the ride (about 10kms of offroading), but later on did not see much of leak.

Engine seems rough after the long ride, maybe will change after 1st service and oil change.
There was a bit of oil leakage from the crankcase just above the filter after the ride (about 10kms of offroading), but later on did not see much of leak.
Don't feel disappointed mate... I went on a 180kms ride on my friend's Duke, and we were doing 80 on an average. His console showed 50kmpl as well.

Not disappointed bro as my console showed 58 kmpl when ridden between 65-70 ,but that is not same as tank to tank average (wish it was).

The user manual says they have a service centre in Banashankari 2nd stage.
Has anyone given their bike there for service? just wanted a review. Thnks!

even i was shocked calculating the mileage
and on board it was showing some 58km/ltr , and then didnt believe so did reserve to reserve method
                                .
my plan of 240kms got cancelled because i couldn't find a pillion rider
il go on sunday and update with u guys about mileage again

                                .

                                and one more query
i found the stock headlight adequate but i need more lighting
a serious no to HID because i don't wanna play with warranty
so say me what to chose for between Osram night breakers and Philips diamond vision in 60/55W ratings or any other bulb in that rating which provides more illumination that stock
