I have finished around 400km and planning to go for the first service at around 600 km. Had a couple of issues which were bugging me and want to sort them out during the first service. Your inputs on the below queries would be extremely helpful as I will have a better idea as to what to tell SVC guys.
1. SuspensionYes, the suspension is very stiff, and it has been designed to be that way. By default, it comes on 2nd Softest setting, you can get it changed to the softest setting. However, don't expect wonders from it. The suspension is made for cornering, and it excels at that. Also over a period of time it will also get softer.
2.Start - Not a big issues, just get the carb tuned optimally, and everything will be fine.
3. Tyres Are you talking about fishtailing or shake?
For the time being, get it done at SVC centre, and ask them to check CO% and not manually.Originally posted by Hiteshjain6188 View PostI don't want my bike to be running on leaner mixture, how to confirm which way is richer AFR..... anti-clockwise or clockwise.
I am thinking of calling up the bajaj helpline.
7100 is a very good oil, almost as good as the 300V. If you ride at 3 digit speeds, nothing can beat the 300V for sure though.Originally posted by Speedshift View PostThanks for replies guys.....
I had read in forums that going for FS oils is fine after 5k kms, any reasons to wait for 10k kms.....???
How is motul 7100 20w50 compared to 300v, its much cheaper and its fully synthetic but with single ester as against double ester in 300v.
The SVC guys were recommending me 7100 on the first service itself but I refused.
Is motul available in 10w50....??Been There, Done That; Better!

Ripping means redlining. Ripping means sudden accelerations, braking, etcOriginally posted by sunilyo View PostHey guys, one noob question

At 8,000rpm there's a sudden surge and the bike shoots off. This is very disconcerting while cruising on highways!
If I pin the throttle when doing 100kmph, there's a lag of about 5-6 seconds after which the bike blasts off towards
120kmph.
Being used to my R15, I'm not too familiar with tuning the carb. Will need your help Rahul Devnath.
I'm sure this is
a tuning issue, though I'm confused as to how this issue could have started off by itself. No tuning was done by me
or any mech...I have completed 2500km on the odo and have recently been taking my bike out on the highway for short early morning 50km rides..Originally posted by rahuldevnath View PostYes, Akshay. Your bike does have that strange issue. But I doubt if it's purely due to improper tuning. Did you show it at AS?
On the open roads i have faced the same issue between 6k and 7k rpm (between 90 and 100kmph) - lack of acceleration and bad vibrations.. beyond 7k it is a rocket!!
Do you think some tuning will fix the issue?
Another question, will tuning for better top end, affect the low end pick up?

I see. Thanks for the clarification. However, tell me how safe is cornering with the stock tyres?

I guess so. Will request SVC guys to tune it well.
3. Are you talking about fishtailing or shake?
Well, I was referring to fishtailing. And in fact today I luckily got saved. Rear tyre skid on a wet road on moderate breaking.
And as I said earlier the issue is not only with wet roads, but also with certain surfaces like those metal sheets which one can find on many Mumbai roads, road division paint, road division gaps etc.

Hey, I have got similar issue but with 5th & 6th gear withing 5K & 6K rpm. Bike becomes jerky and it freaks me out. I have tried same post 2nd service. I remember another fellow NS owner mentioning similar problem with similar rpm range. I am absolutely clueless about the reason here.Originally posted by neoakshay View PostHi guys,

Currently I am keeping my bike under observation and would visit SVC at once.
I think you've got check rear wheel thoroughly. I have got none of these issue on dry, wet, metal, paved roads. What I fear the most is sand, gravel & slush. Tyre would not just stick if I land in any of these conditions.Originally posted by dilipb902 View Post

Is there any way of fixing this without getting the tyres changed?

Today went to the jai bajaj, chennai and paid the full amount.Registration will be done once i submit the proof. And they allowed me to inspect the vehicle in which i found the petrol knob little bit tight..whether it will cause any problem?? Other than that gear shift is smooth and no scratches nothing.Only petrol knob tightness is making me think.I checked the nearby NS which is standing near it the petrol knob is very free. Then the coolant thing - it is in minimum level whether i have to compel them to fill till max while taking delivery??Last edited by pgaucha; 09-15-2012, 10:17 PM.

yes , there is a way. Do a small burnout...a warm tyre provides better traction than a cold one...its outrageous but works for sure...
That is why you can feel more grip from the tyres on a sunny day...

I couldnt stand the tight fuel knob today, so I removed the side cover to see what the problem was and found that the hole on the side cover accommodating the fuel knob was too tight for the knob. What I found was a rubber ring around the knob which is causing the tightness. I will see into solving it somehow, I am thinking of a little cutting or sanding the rubber ring around the knob.Originally posted by pgaucha View PostToday went to the jai bajaj, chennai and paid the full amount.Registration will be done once i submit the proof. And they allowed me to inspect the vehicle in which i found the petrol knob little bit tight..whether it will cause any problem?? Most bikes are coming with very low coolant, You can top it up for about 35Rs per 100ml at the service centre, or any other radiator coolant according to the specifications mentioned in the manual.BreaklessBiker

Fuel knob in my bike is also tight so I cant change to reserve while the bike is running, I need to stop the bike and apply maximum pressure. But I didnt care much about it as its a minor issue. Now its been 2 weeks since I changed to motul 5100 15W50W and I feel that engine is way smoother specially in higher rpms.

Maybe i will insist on topping up the coolant... One more thing i noticed in 2 to 3 bikes standing there ... i was not able to engage first gear in standstill ... Why is that so??Originally posted by surampudijagadeesh View PostI couldnt stand the tight fuel knob today, so I removed the side cover to see what the problem was and found that the hole on the side cover accommodating the fuel knob was too tight for the knob. I dont quite understand what you mean by not able engage first gear, is it while the engine is in neutral and switched off or on?Originally posted by pgaucha View Post... Since you are saying it is your first geared motorcycle, I would suggest not taking it out directly in the traffic until you get used to the gear shifts and slow riding techniques.
Being able to ride very slow and controlled is as important a skill as being able to ride fast.
Clutch, brake and throttle control is very important and practice well. Good luck on your first geared motorcycle.BreaklessBiker
