The revs would simply drop below 8k rpm no matter how much I redlined in each gear. But at another instant, while riding WITH the wind, the bike wanted to climb above 130 km/h without crouching so many times, throttle control kept it where it was supposed to be.

    3. The engine characteristics are such that all the 18 Nm torque kicks in at 8.5k rpm. Naturally, the bike will find it difficult to climb up from 7k rpm in 6th gear, given that a little lag exists at that rpm. If you're cruising in 6th at 100 and want higher speeds, hold the clutch, rev up, downshift to 5th and throttle all the way till 9.5k rpm and then shift back up. Your gearshifts should be such that the revs don't fall below 8.5k rpm. You'd find yourself at 140+ with ease.

Absolutely no complaints with mine but nowadays even I feel Bajaj isn't keeping quality as a priority. One NS in Mysore here got seized coz the oil kept leaking out of the broken drain bolt / some other hole in the oil sump.

Thanks for the suggestion buddy, I do understand what you told makes sense, but what i fail to understand is i was reaching easily 120+ before, with normal gear shifts at 6k RPM. I no longer experience this, may be it is the wind, or may be something else... I am nearing 10k now, will be giving it to service center shortly. lets see what they have to say.

One more issue is with my coolant, it has been almost a year, and my coolant level has not dropped at all!!! Is this normal!! I suspect either the Coolant motor is not working or the Coolant is not circulated at all!!! It never decreased, i mentioned this to Bajaj Service people, they never give an EAR to issues I say

Guys, how is your experience with Bajaj Service Center near Mekri Circle , Bangalore?

Long long ago (about 6 months before) i had a similar problem. what i found, after futile efforts to and fro from svc, was that the speedometer cable tip/sensor had too much grease and was getting in contact with the magnet at the wheel. so I loosened it, removed the plug near the console, took off the excess grease, correctly fit the sensor back in its place with the screw tightened just enough and reconnected to the console. problem solved.

if the above method does not work, then you might be having a faulty magnet(case meter housing part no.jc 151020) or console

btw, i had similar problem with my yamaha fazer

Dude,if coolant is not circulating you will have a seized engine by now and high temprature warning indicator glowing before the seizure. Its running fine,so coolant is circulating. Dont worry and coolant level wont decrease that easily unless there is a leak. But I guess its time to change coolant.. Check manual

I am facing the same problem with my bike too. I got my chain and sprockets changed along with clutch plate too and yesterday crossed 15 k on odo. Whenever trying to speed up my bike even on smooth roads it go till 110 comfortably but after that it feels like engine is pushing hard to speed up and take a lot of time to reach 130 crossed. Visited svc day before yesterday with the same problem but the guy told me that its just same and we need to come up with a good pickup from start to reach top speed.

I am still not convinced so what all you suggest on this.

I have had a problem since the bike was new. there would collect some black greasy residue near the front chain sprocket and gear shifter. Do other NS have the same problem or is it something to take serious about. the service centre mechanic was saying it is just chain spray. I think this was discussed in this thread before, but if any of you could give some inputs would be appreciated.

You are nearing 10k. This means your airfilter needs cleaning. It's probably dusty now so the air-flow has reduced to an extent. Since the carb tuning is unchanged (I assume), the air-fuel ratio is now a tad on the richer side. So, the bike's taking time to reach good speeds.

Bro just watch the console for any new indications. If it doesn't show 'engine overheated' icon, you can be sure that everything's fine. I think Bajaj mechs were simply putting it off as normal coz it really is. Anyway, go for a complete change of coolant at 20k kms (I think, according to the manual).

It's chain spray splattered on the gear shifter which would have become pretty solid after all those cycles of heating and cooling. I bet the residue's present on the exhaust pipe just below too. You can use diesel spray to get rid of it.
Note: It's not a problem at all.

Thank you brother. I use same chain spray on my fazer as well but I didn't see such residue. Maybe its due to the higher pick up of ns, the chain gets so hot.

Either that or the underside of NS isn't as protected from splatter as Fazer, I dunno.

                      .
Atleast the splatter does not get on the shoes or pants
