Just forgot to mention that. I will clean the chain before every lubing. I am usually using diesel. Is it will be a problem?
1. Of-course no.. I haven't done even a single time...
2. Will try. Thanks
Don't use diesel, you can use kerosene, as solvents can have a negative effect on the o rubber rings in between the chain and deplete the life away from it. Use kerosene, don't brush hard as they are very soft. Just just use waste, dip it in kerosene, and wipe clean and soak the chain if necessary.
Can anyone guide me on how to clean the rear brake-pads and calipers DIY way?
Pressure wash the calipers, which works well most of the time. There are disc cleaning sprays but they are tad costly, but a jet wash with good old water is what I always do and it always works.
Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
The girl said, 'NO!'
And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.
If your bike is tuned on the leaner side it happens as the engine gets hotter. Also check if the radiator is working properly. Also check for any engine oil or coolant leaks.
How can I check if the radiator is working properly? No coolant leaks. And do they tune the bike at second service? Cause after that I've been getting lesser mileage and this problem.

Even on second service unless there is something that requires immediate attention, they just go per the manual. Radiator's effectiveness can't be discerned as such, but they will last a lifetime unless something unduly happens.
If you have mileage problems it is related to the tuning of the carb, not the radiator.

Using petrol is problematic but diesel wont be that bad and even in the bajaj service manual for 200ns, the instructions are to clean with diesel. I agree that kerosene is better, but I have always had the chain cleaned at the svc and they remove the chain and clean it with diesel. my bike is 17000km and 9 months old and the chain is still fine, no uneven slack or such.
diesel is not a bad thing unless you are planning to soak the chain overnight or something.

Well right now I'm getting really poor mileage figures compared to friends and online figures. Around 35 kmpl. It's not the petrol pump anyway. And I'm not very aggressive in riding. Usually go to max 80 - 90 to college. And then the really bad roads I go really slow, like 10 - 20 kmph. So could that be a reason for the poor figures?
Can someone please attend to this.I'm so eager to have k&n filter.I.ve an option to buy a second hand 3000 km run filter..from the looks i think it is r1060...Some friends suggested me to go for a new r1100 instead. Can anyone tell which is better to opt...??
today, I got to witness the superb laziness of the svc mechanics. I gave my bike for rectification of petrol overflow from carburetor. as was seen when opened that day, it was dirty. the mechanic told me he will clean the carburetor and asked me to come next day. when I went to pick up my bike, he told me that the float needle might be damaged since it was getting stuck or something and he wasn't sure about that. the carburetor seemed clean but the jets and all did not look like they were even touched. he said it will cost only a couple of hundred rupees, but since the float needle was not in stock, I waited till today for it to arrive. I went to the svc today, and the mechanic was saying the problem is not with the needle but with the float. he said it might be cracked and was not working well.
so at this point i was little pissed off, but I patiently asked whether he checked it for cracks. He said there was no equipment provided to check the plastic float and cracks on float are not visible. I was like WTF. and now i was seriously pissed off. i went to the manager and asked him to immediately rectify the problem otherwise replace the carburetor under warranty. he was not ready to do so and pointed out that the part was damaged because i left the petrol in the tank for too long. so I had to give it in writing requesting replacement under warranty and asked for aknowledgement and threatened to send a mal to BAL. Now the manager was thinking.... and he came up with an offer that he will have the carburetor checked thoroughly by tomorrow and if found that defect was due to old petrol, i will have to pay, otherwise he will replace under warranty. I asked i wanted it to be done now in front of my eyes. I had to create a scene and some elder customers helped me escalate the matter.
Now was the fun part, we asked the mechanic to check for problem and he was sure it was the float and he was saying it had invisible crack and there is no equipment to check. now we asked him to check if it was floating in water and it was. next we asked him to remove all the parts and clean them and he reluctantly removed the jets, screws and we had him separate all the rubber o-rings and washers and thoroughly cleaned. there came out so much gunk, no wonder my bike felt out of breath. and finally everything was cleaned and assembled, but still overflowing. Now the mechanic was saying it is a faulty carburetor and has to be replaced. I almost believed him when the guy beside me asked him to remove and clean the drain screw. now when he removed the drain screw it was dirty and was not screwed in tightly as it should have been. it was cleaned and screwed in tightly. this time the carb did not leak and now the bike responds great.
so it is easier to learn how to diy than making them do it.

Personally, I think there is no point in going for a better breathing air filter without up-jetting and proper tuning.
you won't notice any drastic change and you will be giving the svc guys some reason to avoid warranty if some problem with engine or carb should arise.

The SVC people are quiet ok with this. I talked with them. They told they would install the filter and even tune the carb after it.
I only want to know what filter to go for....RC 1060 or R 1100...........????????????????????

35 KMPL is not bad either. Uneven riding conditions do take a hit on the mileage part, as cruising for a stretch and then all of a sudden using low gears for a particular stretch does infact alter the mileage characteristics. So I will say yes, this is one of the reason too.

Sometimes a strong burning smell comes from the bike. This comes at times only and is very hard to reproduce. Sometimes it comes on a short ride or sometimes after a while. Any clue what it is? When I approached the svc, he said it might be due to water (thanks to rain). But I checked now when no rains are there and it came. I'll be taking it to svc ASAP but has anyone faced this?
Did you change the Engine or brake oil recently? If so check for oil spillage on exhaust. The smell is due to oil burning on hot exhaust.
[[You can reproduce the smell by dripping a drop of engine oil on hot exhaust and check if that is similar.]]
Getting angry at somebody is the same as getting angry with a bike that just won't go. You should stop and start thinking.
A good mechanic will let you watch even without charging you for it. | It is funny to know that we've been imitated and copied so well and surprising when we notice our mistakes are copied as well.

Panzer1 B7ACKTHORN is right. I am currently getting a mileage figure similar to yours between 34 - 37 kmpl. And i mostly use it for riding between office and home. I ride total of 13 kms daily out of which around 4 kms i have to ride in low gears 1-3 due to road / traffic conditions. I am not running on the richer side but just the right AF mixture. I had even checked my spark plug to confirm for a richer mixture. I havent checked the CO% yet to optimize the tuning further.
The svc people have a normal tendency to think that at the time of purchase they make the AFR rich saying that engine is new and it will give problems at start up etc. etc. then after 1st or 2nd service they will re-tune the carb for better mileage though not deliberately but only because most riders / normal commuters ask to tune for better tuning so by default they tune every bike for mileage hence screw up the tuning. I would suggest that you check with the SVC guy if he had tuned the bike or not.

I too get a figure between 30-35 kmph (mostly 32). I've done ~18K kms and my bike's about 11 months old. Don't know whether it's a bad figure or not, but, I think that figure depends too much on your riding habit, whether you're riding with a pillion, and also, the quality of roads and the amount of traffic. I use my bike to commute to office 25 kms and back everyday, and out of that 25 kms one way journey, 20 percent are bad roads, where I am required to slow down the speed ride in 1, 2nd gear.
my bike reached 15k kilometers using motul 7100 fs 20w 50.... like to change the exhaust to free flow or ktm duke because its sound really good exhaust note ,it can be fitted to pulsar 200ns and like to get kn filter with bigger carb..... please help me in right way in getting it for performance daily traveling 70 kilometers for my office work ...... need some performance with my bike
Went for an early morning ride after cleaning the spark plugs and it was just WOW. at first i was hesitant to open the throttle as lately i have experienced the horrors of poor tuning like flat spots and jerks, but since the carb and spark plugs cleaned the performance is really great. redlined in sixth gear before I knew it and the bike felt planted. before shifting to to sixth cog i saw 125 on speedo and didn't have a chance to see what speed i reached.
My suggestion to everyone who has already clocked more than 15k and are experiencing a drop in performance is to have the carburetor cleaned, spark plugs checked and cleaned or replaced and make proper adjustments and you will see the difference.
the svc guys will say there is no need to check the carb or spark plugs and it is sufficient to clean air filter, but don't listen to them. have every service requirement completed according to the service booklet and insist on everything that needs to be done. this way we can avoid spending a fortune on spares.
another trend with the svc guys is that they will not try to rectify a problem, instead they suggest replacement which is easier for them for example, when you give for chain cleaning, they will clean only the chain and dont touch the sprockets especially the front wchich will wear off soon since it was never cleaned, then you will have to replace the set sooner. they will not check the spark plugs regularly and clean them, which leads to higher deposits in the engine and need to decarb sooner than needed. they will not adjust the valve clearance at regular intervals which also leads to lots of problems.
if we never insist on the jobs to be done correctly they will just give it a good waterwash and apply some polish we don't need and say ALL IS WELL, but not.
