• Re: Pulsar 200 NS Owners Review and Experiences

1 year 5 months & 24250 kms of abuse and the bike is going strong.

Mods: cylinder head tweaks, stock replacement air filter (without the breather tube for the box), bigger main jet, 13T front sprocket and big rear tyre to aid the final gearing.

As of now, due to the absence of the breater tube, there is just one hole on the box. This makes airflow at low rpms turbulent and the low end of the engine is nearly non existant. Im planning to cut the box in the front in the shape of a rectangle to remove any obstructing plastic (to reduce the turbulence effect) and install a 120 main jet to compensate for slightly extra air flow.

0-60, 0-100 equals those of D200. Top speed: 151 km/h (~136 km/h without error).

Pros of mods: acceleration i.e fun factor, engine revs very freely and quickly.
Cons: FE reduced by 5 km/l due to the super short final gearing, lots of hassles during initial days of mods, engine stressed out a bit more on highways, carburetor needs more maintenance to keep it clean.

For those in doubt regarding the sprocket lag of the 13T due to excessive clearance on the gearbox shaft, adjust your clutching-declutching methods for a smoother pickup and decel.

Kms after modifying: 6k including one 1200 km round trip and numerous 300 km days. No problems faced (again except for initial days).

Major parts replaced: carb diaphragm, radiator (owing to a mishap), tyres.

Overall, very happy with my 200NS!
Cheers!

So you are still running with the mods done from RC ? How did you go about correcting the problems ? Just curious thats all.

Friends last Saturday I did a trip of about 300kms From Coimbatore to Salem and back. During the trip am cruised at 100+. I noticed that vibration starts from 5.5k rpm. Mostly I felt heavily at the footpegs. If this issue is there in all NS or mine have any issue. And this can be clear or not.

I have felt them as well, but a clean and well lubed chain reduce them fairly.

Is the seat/cover stock ? Majority of the people like the older color . My friend who's uncle owns a showroom says that there are many people who are willing to wait for the single tone color while his uncle tries to get them somehow from other showrooms . I personally like the single tone color . Maybe if the black on the tank wasnt there and the dual tone of blue with black and white stripes would have extended till the tank ends it would have looked awesome ! Currenty it looks like Bajaj Discover 125T or 135 DTS-I :P

Problem 1: Bike kept shutting off once every 40 km, more frequently when petrol level was less.
Reason: Breather pipe for the tank was stuck between the tank and chassis.
Solved by adjustments.

Problem 2: Improper air filtration. Too much dust in the intake box.
Reason: Air filter box was cut carelessly to fit the stock replacement air filter. Unfiltered air was going in from around the contours of the filter.
Solved by using double sided tape for the few-mm-width gaps. Tapes are replaced everytime the filterbox is opened for cleaning.

Problem 3: Coolant began leaking from the gap between the bore and lower engine block.
Reason: while reinstalling the bore at RC, industrial adhesive was used instead of paper packing between the bore and engine block. This was supposedly done to increase compression. The coolant, being a good solvent began dissolving the solidified adhesive around the bore, thus seeping out.
Solved by installing a new paper packing bought off a bajaj spares store. Coolant was replaced as old coolant had bits of undissolved adhesive floating around.

Problem 4: Afr keeps leaning out every 1000 kms.
Reason unclear. According to joel this is because the valves are slowly setting after the modifications and this is supposedly a good thing. A good engine supposedly demands more fuel.
Issue might be solved by installing a 120 main jet. Yet to be seen.
Are there any other reasons why this lean-out is occurring?

I think that will also won't help, because i have lubed the chain just before the trip. And I keep the chain clean and lubed every 500kms.

This is a good observation, considering the coolant has foreign material inside the circulation chamber, it's wise that you've noticed the problem with due diligence. Left alone, the materials would form a gunk and would even block tiny passages causing pump failure in the long run.

The engine is fed via the valves and the source feed is the carburettor, as we all know. Intake stroke or for that matter, the valves alone wouldn't in anyway lean out an already pre mixed ratio of fuel and air, as its primary job is to let in and stop. Since you've had an issue with the AF (indicated above) and the airbox earlier, I guess the increased air intake might have caused the discrepancy. If you've modified the airbox, check the level of mixture or upjet accordingly.

Check your airbox (if modded or cut etc) check the air filter, check the mixture ratio, then upjet or downjet accordingly.

Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

THE END

These experiences by Aditya N Bharadwaj reassures the fact that RC is not a "tuning" company, instead they are selling jugaads. I gotta admit, that theory about valves setting in made me chuckle, how the valves dilute a AF mixture since it is already premixed at the carburetor? Check the AFR screw, it might be coming loose from vibrations, that used to happen on my RX135. Well, 200NS has a fuel screw so it should not happen, but check anyway, I suggest you check the air box, the tapes might be coming off after some time.
