  • @NANOtechnology: Congrats...you finally did it!
Now please give me info regarding the only small mod I'm planning-P135 switches-the wiring&mounting on handle.
We need to find a way to mount the choke switch directly on the carb too.
    Quench my thirst with gasoline!

@Nano - So this was the thing you were talking about

You are definitely insane Dude More than Dr.

Is it again a twin beam setup or single??

100w X 2 HID's Do you think the pulsy headlight can take that heat ??

No wonder you will look like a space craft on road

Great work man !! Hats off.

I feel u need to cover the alternator so that it doesn't come in contact and hurt someone. (You wont know when it can happen.)

Btw how much for the HID's and from where did you source them

EDIT - Which RR Unit are you using ? I am not aware how the car alternator works !!

And as psr sir had mentioned any idea of how u gonna protect from water.

Small future upgrade suggestion-how about the tata nano's alternator, dont know the output though

          • @ sajjt

Thanks for the shocking compliments, for now its open, but a cover to the belt assembly will be made.

regarding the alternator, i was told that its waterproof, it has nothing inside it apart from 2 coils, only muck and dust might hamper the bearings.

            @ PSR

he he, i never thought about the entire alternator being stolen, i just assumed that someone will run away with the belt.
I'll put up a cover on my bike, and it stays near the watchman, so i don't think anybody will remove it (atleast when the bike's parked under my building)

regarding the crank extension, it was not what i wanted in the first place, i had bought the self starter assembly to run the starter motor shaft (which would have been my alternator's shaft) but i had to give up that idea as the ratio was 22:1, which means 1 crank rotation would lead to 22 alternator rotations so it turned out to be too high.

with a reduction gear too it was 16:1

hence the crank extension was used, and there was no other spot to mount it apart from this, i agree its dangerous for me was well as for the bike, but once the cover is placed it will atleast guarantee protection to others.
I feel scared to keep my foot back on the footrest whenever i put my leg down.

regarding the crash problem, it will hit the floor and will break off, there's nothing i can do to avoid it (rather than praying not to crash) until now.
            your suggestions are most welcome.

            @ pawan

Thanks for the compliments, well it looks like a pig's head to me, the older headlamp with 2 eyes was always an eye catcher, this one is
i went to get my PUC done today, and a group of people gathered around seeing what the hell was this...

its difficult to avoid attention during daytime as its clearly visible, and in the night-time, the output is soo high that its again difficult to get avoided.

the belt cover will come soon, i was just testing if something was needed to take care of, its not even 24 hours since i got my bike.

            @ gixxer

Thanks a lot buddy, the performance is really gone up, but i cannot judge the performance well if the headlamp is ON, as with load it decreases the revs of the engine (as it happens in a car) but i somehow feel that the midrange is gone up, being worried about the FLY AWAY possibility of the belt i didn't revv the bike high yet.

in the garage i revved it till 12k, but on the roads, i barely crossed 80.
            been riding at 60 constantly.
the engine breaking has really gone down, on de-throttling it barely gives out any engine brake.
Maybe the load on the crank is quite high, so the torque may have gone up a bit.

will know for sure within some days.

with the headlamps OFF, it performs like a monster, the only problem i am facing is clutch slippage and kick touching the footrest and brake lever, everything else is okay.

i did try the USD handle setup, the grips turn outwards, making it very uncomfortable to hold the handle, so i left it back to where it was.

the rearsets with this handle is really great.

            @ sarvajit

Thanks a lot sarvajit, the switches will be a straight fit, you'll just have to drill a hole on the base of the handle (i forgot if fiero's handle has a hole on the base or the top) as FZ's has on the top, regarding the wiring, there's a dedicated backlight wire, if you wish to keep it on using the ignition switch (like neutral) it will be easier, as if the mid-switch backlight option if used only RH switches will turn on, the LH ones' backlight will flicker.

and the wiring is a real pain, it took the mech a lot of time to tap each and every wire, will have to cut the connector traces, however its not that difficult with a standard H4 bulb, as mine is 2 dedicated headlamps.

give it a shot, they really look good.

as far as the carb is concerned, its a simple job of fitting the choke knob on it as i already told you before.
find a mech and both of these things can be done easily.

            @ shreeni

guess what, I've run that 100w for almost and hour and touched the glass, it was as cool as the previous 35w hid used to be, was shocking but its the truth, if unable to take the heat, we'll think about something.

I've just installed 1 X 100w bulb (in projector) as its tooooo bright to be used without the cut-off, its insanely bright, using it on a reflector will be a cruel thing to do.

Car alternator doesn't need any RR, its a 3 phase ground shunted coil (with inbult regulator), only 1 wire comes out of it which goes to battery +ve, that's all there is, much simple to use.
            it just needs constant rotation.
Giving a lot to a fiero.
Expecting a lot from a fiero.

            • Nano, wow! I am speechless. You are one insane guy. I feel sorry for the truckies who dares to hi-beam you!

              I do have some doubts

Will the reflector survive the heat?

              How about waterproofing the alternator?

Are you using the same 9Ah battery? Do you see any spikes in the alternator o/p?

Finally what was the total damage?

              AND WE WANT BEAM SHOTS!!!

@Nano: Dude I remember you saying that the backlit switches are nice and that you wanted them but couldn't as the ones on the UG3 ran off the BCU. Then I pointed out the P135 switches are analog and you could use them! Glad that my input worked!

Good thing buddy,i am glad you have taken the chance to get all these modifications done and good luck with everything.

Just take care of the mechanical parts and if your bike revs to 12k then that's worth the investment made on the porting job, exhaust (FFE) and TCI.

Another thing, how's the extension connected to the crank and is there any oil entering the stator coil space now? oil seal used?how's the lubrication?

                    @ pawan

beam spread pics will follow when the new thread will be accepted, this is motorcycle ownership experiences meant for fieros, i don't want my fiero buddies to be left alone, as i do not want to hijack this thread, this was put up here to let these guys know what mods I've done (besides the alternator)..

so lets keep things in places..

                    @ velociraptor

Thanks buddy, sure will meet soon, i want to brag my light output anyways.

                    @ abhi

Well, the beam shots will follow in a new thread, so more details about it will also be discussed there.

                    @ all

i request everyone to please not use this thread to discuss the alternator department, or the lighting department, this thread is Fiero thread should be used to discuss the bike itself.
I've made a new thread, all the queries and discussions will follow there once its approved by the mods.
sorry fiero buddies, if this thread of yours is being hijacked.

it tends to seem that my mid-range has increased, is it because of the TCI ?
                      or the exhaust ?
                      or the ports ?

it feels as if the bike is falling 2 gears short, i didn't revv the bike too much as i was worried about my belt slipping.

what can increase the midrange ?

i have still my mouth open, was wondering what the extra assembly was...

that definitely calls for an appreciation...
but am still afraid about your safety...
hope you have seen older model bullet's, they have an 'U' shaped engine guard get it and get some extra pipes welded for that extra length (that should protect it from a crash)
get it fixed and try a saree guard upside down and get it weld to the e guard...
leave just the bottom portion open... this way incase of slippage you wouldnt get hurt.

Dont forget to show those daylights...
Presence of MIND and self CONFIDENCE is the primary aspect You need to be on road, not what brand your riding gears are.

I've already mentioned small details in a new thread which will follow after approval, but here's a treat (pre release) to all my buddies in this thread where i belong.

first and the foremost, the upgrades.

                            • TCI (180's)
                            • New switches (p135's)
                            • new wiring (rtr 160's)
                            • bigger ports
                            • new (used) exhaust (rtr's)
                            • rtr's REARSETS installed
                            • new headlamps (p220's)
                            • one of a kind charging system (found in cars)

i had also bought K&N and karizma's jet, but i gave up that idea, as it didn't seem to be performing well with the K&N, and it turned too loud.

so followed stock airbox, 9 amp battery, and other mods that you guys already know of.

                            Have a look.

well, the reason of installing the car alternator was to simply run my new bulbs, they are 100w of pure HID, the brightest automotive bulbs ever made.

Beam spread pics will follow soon.

Lets just talk about the engine first.

Its become a hell of a machine, the power is more than what it was before, maybe the exhaust, maybe the ports, or maybe the TCI, but even with a dip in the head, it pulls much much better than before.

the head work was done by the best guy in town, and he's done more than brilliant job.

the rear-sets make the bike very easy to maneuver and feels much planted, they were actually installed to avoid the belt touching my toes as the gear lever was just below the crank pulley.

                            it handles like a dream.

revs pull up very smoothly (thanks to TCI) and the bike has NO STATOR COIL, so every damm thing (including the spark plug) is powered directly from the battery itself.

i personally hate the EXHAUST, its too loud and too ugly and resonator inside it has been removed by us, it was a junkyard search, didn't find anything in a better condition.

it was necessary to install it because the Rearsets don't allow my exhaust to be in place.

i don't have much left to write further the brain isn't working.., ask questions, and I'll recall and let you guys know whatever hard work was needed to make this happen..
                            Oh my, Oh my

I am speechless, Appreciate your effort dude..

The P220 projector, rear sets & RTR silencer looks clean.

For the Alternator you must choose something to cover it & then add a wide enough crash guard to avoid it from breaking during crash.

This is the extreme modification I have personally ever seen on any fiero in xbhp, good going & keep it up

Mid-range increase : It's not because of the TCI.

Ports? could be ,depends on what the guy who did it was aiming for.

Exhaust? Probably not,as louder tends to make the low-rev to mid-range weak.

You mean to say that the 4th feels like 2nd or 3d gear?

My guess would be that it's because of the extra load on the crank shaft ,which might be making it feel like the fly-wheel is heavier.

The reason i am saying this is because ,you are saying engine has lost some engine braking, which is mainly because of drop in compression and because of the load of the alternator on the crank.
