    Listen,shorter gearing means:-

    1. increase in pick-up feels like power has been increased like a 180kit or more

    2. 1st gear will become very short ,2nd gear will feel like first gear, that is you'll be able to slot into 2nd gear and move the bike without using 1st gear at all from stand still.3d gear will become short with lot of grunt.4th gear will feel some what like 3d gear.

    3. Good for the engine head(valve train etc)as engine wont be lugged in gears.

    4. Bike will run out of breath in top-end

    5. There will be decrease in mileage and if you stick in 4th gear most of the time as it will have lot of grunt and pull.Mileage will not drop.

    5. Bike will be in higher revs most of the time (depends on your riding style)so it will wear out clutch a bit quicker and the bore too.

ok done... thnx for the elaboration!!! i m goin for this setup... now would it be necessary to remove the chaincover in order to accommodate the bigger rear sprocket?

Yeah it might need to be bent a bit,ask the mech to sort it out.

i think u know that this bike(F2) needs frequent gear changing, i.e it does not have that bottom end torque just like ur bike(classic fiero).

I prefer super tall gearing the bike should feel like the electric guitars of U2 .That is i love revving the bike in each gear and for that the taller gearing is perfect. Our bikes have a taller internal ratio and its a close ratio box.So lot of fun when it's converted to a big bore set up.I've stopped popping wheelies since the USDhandle set-up and was never a fan of low power-bands.Maybe it's because of using my cousin's RX135 for years which has made me love taller gearings.

ya man.. somhow i love the feeling when accelerating in the 3rd gear!! but ur classic fiero has a different gear ratio than the F2.

The thing is,if you make a stock bike's gearing tall, then there's a chance of making the bike lug in gears as the 1st gear will feel like 2nd.So gearbox will be like it's lost the first gear and gained the 5th in the bargain.Basically to pull taller gearing the bike needs power. So when you make the gearing short,at least engine won't be made to lug.

ya thats rite... because if u have got that EXTRA torque, u dont need to hold that throttle for a longer time. say from 1st to 2nd, u may need 3 secs to change to 2nd, but due to torque increase (in whichever manner u achieve it) u would just need 1.5 to 2 secs and at the same rpm..

Do one thing, check your bike's .It's very easy and it will clear up things.I also remember chief buying fiero chain sprocket kit,for his classic fiero and they had given him 13/40 as i had counted the teeth. That means F2 has 13/40 like i've read and known from others till now.

                        I don't buy this...
Ride a F2 and classic back to back, you'll need to edit this post...
Giving a lot to a fiero.
Expecting a lot from a fiero.

This was my experience after riding it for 8yrs... the 3rd gear is very long, can go all the way upto 80-85kmph.. but u need to shift gears to keep it in the POWER BAND, thats wat i wanted to tell.. But its not the case with the classic.. Both the bikes have a different gear ratio and gearing characteristics..

No issues what so ever with bike or parts availability. Just considering the age, I was thinking of getting another bike to share duties. But I am totally confused, whether I should go ahead with this thought or not. I use the bike for city and occasional highway runs. If I get a new bike, it would be for the highways and when wify wants to hop on. Fiero would be for in city solo and office runs. Fiero will always stay with me.

Has anyone gone through this phase? I know Sarvajit has two bikes too, anyone else? Should I or should I not?

PS: I know this is hugely OT, but did not wish to put it in front of a bigger audience.
I say go for another bike. Depending on budget, R15 or CBR. I would pick CBR since it has more torque&better suited for 2 up riding.
Maintenance is not an issue if you know what&when.
Use the new bike as much as you can, else it won't be worth it. I do.
Keep the Fiero for times when you can't/don't wanna take the softer bike out.
For example, I had to go to Old City yesterday&after the rains, water had flooded up knee deep. My Fiero was the only bike that didn't stall-rest all were pushing their bikes through, while I was riding. Glad I got the electricals done up by paying a visit to Koti last month!
Like Abhi says, Fieros are bulletproof!

What's the going price of a R15? if it's cheap it would make sense.Mash want's a 250 with "charecter" and i think he'd miss it on the CBR(by going thru the ownership thread).R15 has that characteristic yamaha trait.
When i saw your post here,i realized that the messages were from you. Yeah bro,if in case he goes for the new CBR,it makes sense to use it as a daily commuter, because due to depreciation, the value will keep dropping like a stone even though it may not have much on the odo.Needless to say,it makes no sense to sell the fiero for the price of peanuts, when actually a 75 grand bike won't have it's performance.

Be careful of later lot of R15s as they were like the pulsars in drinking oil and having seizures at sustained high RPM.
