    Talking about oil cooler, I saw one Fiero in a small town of Karad, running around. This was a few years back. All the best for your project.

    Sorry, for asking it again (if its already answered). Anyone who is running a RT160/RTR180 block piston on Fiero (with Fiero' crank)? I guess the studd mounting matches, what about the timing chain?

      Friends,finally the oil-cooler's on the bike and running!

      I had gone to the mech on tuesday and we had checked the things up.Then we found that a new banjo bolt was needed to fix the oil cooler inlet to the provision made by SUZUKI engine designers.Then yesterday evening after i got the needed banjo bolt made at the lathe,once again costing me 100bucks.The oil cooler was installed and for the first time the engine was started to check the oil pressure,the oil came out of the outlet of the oil cooler within 10 seconds of starting the bike.That is,the oil cooler's inlet was filled and the oil circulated the cooler and came out within 10 seconds.That too with good pressure.Then it was fitted to the outlet from the oil-filter outlet with a double banjo bolt and the oil once again reached the head within 10 seconds of firing up the bike.
      So, thus, oil pressure as we were assured by the others was not a issue.Yet i wanted to make sure of it myself and it is fine.
      The installation has been possible only because of the provision made by the engine designers and i have kept the stock oil circuit as it is.
      The pictures will come once we install it in a proper manner,that is both aesthetically with proper clamps,as well as removing the sharp bends in the hose lines present now.We wanted to check whether it'll work with good pressure or not,so we have installed the oil cooler with the pulsar lines which it came with.

        Thanks,it's running now.About the RTR blocks,you can fit either, with the 180 being .5mm bigger in bore.Nothing else needs to be changed except a cam chain tensioner.Nanotech has done it and so have many others.Good luck.

          At last the oil cooler is installed and running.....hats off to your efforts and perseverance.Hope you had taken care of extra oil required for the increased volume of the oil cooler.
          Wish you Good Luck Always.

            Thanks for the wishes,it was nothing really.The mech is a good knowledgeable guy and i was told of this provision by Mr Murthy of ZEN Shakti TVS and with inputs from Mr Venugopal got it done.Do let me know about anything technical related to it.

                @nav75
                Yes, rtr180 block and piston is straight fit to fiero, but do remember to match the head to the increased bore size, nothing else needs to be changed.

                @ gix
                Congrats buddy for the oil cooler installation.

                      Well ,i'm trying to optimize it even further and hoping to get a oil circuit diagram from tvs.

                      @All

                      It's been a busy day today, me and Abhi went to shivajinagar to get a good deal on the pulsar classic disc brake assembly including the right fork leg!! The good thing was that we got it including the wheel with spokes attached to the hub and adapter!! and the whole thing came to 2.2k !!Thanks mainly to the bargaining skills of Abhi !! The parts are in very good condition and the disc plate's as good as new.The master cylinder looks to be that of a unicorn/CBZ,but the mech's sure that it's of a Apache 150.The master cylinder came with the minor kit and the whole works with even the oil level in right position!! So all in all it was a good deal and hopefully it will be on his bike within a couple of days!! more from Abhi later.

                        Kudos to your oil cooler thingy. Abhi told me about it.
                        Just a doubt from my end, is there any way how you can measure the oil temperature?

                          Thanks. Yes, the head will have to be machined. I was also thinking about getting the 180's head (if it will fit).
                          One more thing, are you still running the Fiero's stock jetting?
                          As compared to a RTR180/160 (depending on which block you have fitted), is the torque o/p better or same or less (in case you have compared it). I know the gearing is diff but still.

                            Thanks .Regarding the oil cooler's functioning ,or effectiveness.It has been done by Mr Srinivas ,who's a friend of Mr Venugopal and who together have built the V-Twin fiero and superchargers for fieros from scratch(meaning ,these two are very technical and hence are far more into testing any modification's effectiveness).That is he has installed oil coolers before and had found that when your ZMR's oil cooler was put it had reduced the oil temp by as much as 20 - 25 c.To measure, the vehicle needs to be moving and hence needs sensors.Any oil cooler will work ,it's a given thing and i've found out that being the case with my installation as well by just cursory examination of the heat emanating from it when in traffic stops and as to how cool it becomes after the vehicle has moved some distance.Even in signal lights as long as the bike's running the oil cooler will work better than one without it.If the engine's switched off ,then there won't be heat developing for that duration anyway.

                            Any of those heads will fit your bike's bore.Torque increase will be a given thing as this modification will increase the cc's.Stock fiero's jetting will not work.You will have to re-tune the carb after going for a 105 main jet of RTR160 or that of the Apache 150 (102.5 main)for the stock fiero carb.Depends on the choice of head you opt for actually .None the less jetting has to be done.If you get the stock head machined to match the bore,then it will have more compression than a RTR head and this will need cooling with bigger jets and re-tuning of the carb.

                              My bike's been bored to fit a ZMA piston(not stock ZMA) and engine-head's a machined stock one with porting work done.It's got a bigger carb with jetting done.RTR bore-kit's a safer bet and jetting is specific to the particular bike and it's setting.

                              • @gixxer_junkie_m: Hearty congrats on getting the oil cooler up&running at first attempt!
                                You are right-maximum heating is cause in stop-go city traffic than highways.
                                This deserves a mention in one of the auto mags-most other air cooled 150cc bike owners will be running to you, I am serious when I say this.
                                Atleast post a thread like what Nano did for his electrical mods. It is great to share knowledge on a worthy forum as this.

                                @abhilashabhi12: That's another great deal you clinched-2.2K seems to be the price you are always concluding on! (Remember our Balaji Helmet trips)
                                Are you going to replace only the RHS leg? Won't it cause instability?

                                @All: Update on the Fiero repairs-I have purchased all parts required for my Fiero-it has costed me around Rs. 5K with one spare set of oil seals&engine oil too. Will drop the bike for service soon. Every part I got a doubt on, I just bought. Nothing yet engine related. If needed, I'll buy those as well during the service. I'm determined this time to make the bike healthy!
                                Waiting for salary to come, send around 3K to Anand&Abhi for fork inner tubes&springs from Bangalore-will keep a couple of sets of disc pads spare as well.
                                Will update once the bike is done.
                                Quench my thirst with gasoline!
