  • Guys,

I have owned an 2002 Model TVS fiero along with my CBZ Classic.

Majorly Fiero was used by my uncle & it has run close to 40k & now I am planning to sell my CBZ & keep fiero as my full time bike.

Bike hasn't been used for most part of the last 3 yrs, hardly 500kms.

I am planning to get my bike serviced & change my tyres & also planning to change chain sprocket & need your advise,

My front tyre is stock size & It doesn't need change as of now,
Rear - I am having set up of Classic P180 which is 100/90-18 MRF Zapper Y Including P180 rim & the tyre needs a change now, so pls give best options to choose from in 100/90-18 range.

Now coming to Chain Sprocket - I Intend to put Bigger front or Smaller rear sprocket to make cruise @ low RPM for specified speed, please give me direct fit options.

I do not know what is the current sprocket set up of Fiero, pls do let me know.

    Thanks
    Abhilash

Gixxer bro, I have replaced the plug with a new NGK which is sparking good now. I suppose the electricals are fine too, otherwise the bike would not have started. The bike starts easy now and the lighting is god too. Although doing the electricals test on a proper machine or something makes sense. What do you think about the high and low tones when revved at neutral? Now that the carb has been cleaned, plug replaced and all.
I am telling you from experience, i relied on a genius like your mech to get things done in a hurry and the way they work is simple. They make you change all the parts one at a time and they always readily blame the electrical parts as that means its out of their hands. Then once you go through the whole grind and get the coil replaced or re wound and all other things electrical replaced .Then if the problem still persists they blame it on the engine. By then we will be so frustrated and tired that we accept fate and learn to live with it.

Let me warn you at the outset. If you replace the coil with a local one then this problem you are facing now will seem like a dream in comparison to the nightmares you will get with a local coil.

Then if you replace the CDI with a local one costing 800 bucks your fiero will transform from a beautiful princess into a frog/bajaj .

dude actually the truth about why i am asking these sort of questions is than some of the spares are not easily available and secondly if in middle whilst riding the bike stops all of a sudden, local mechanics never find the correct solution. it is the TVS mechs that can work on the F2.

whats the cost of CDI unit and ignition coil. now i think i should stock these critical spares to avoid trouble in future!!

Since you are from bangalore too, take the bike to ZEN tvs or maybe you know Rajesh the mech.

I am using 14teeth front sprocket and the stock is 13 and 39 rear. The one i am using is that of the yam ybx.Yamaha sprockets fit ours ,so you can try there or you can buy one of the centra which also has 14 teeth.

From what i have experienced, making the gearing taller on a stock fiero will need more down shifting . I made it lug and suffered because of it. As it loosened up the valve train and let the oil flow into the combustion chamber.

No need to stock fiero CDI and Ignition coil. You can always go for the TCI set up of the RTR.

Interestingly TCI is the one which is used on YAMAHA R1 and R6 since 1998 and then on every liter class bike and supersport bike has TCI.

Thanks for updating about the Sprockets, I have tried putting one bigger in my CBZ & I found Cruising very easy, Will give it a try & revert back to stock If found not suitable for City Rides.

I think it will need more time until I find a suitable buyer for CBZ to full take over to fiero & start working on it.

PS - how is the service with Zen ? Are they good ?

The symptoms faced by sarvajit and chief ashman indicate that it's not a CDI or Ignition coil issue.

If the CDI gets stuck in a retard map ,then also it will perform without issues.

This gives me a hint for my problem-maybe the sparkplug coil that passes through the ignition coil&goes till the sparkplug is the culprit. How much does that cost? Oops! I won't buy anything until its confirmed by an auto-electrician else our body builder Anand will thrash me!

I can't see the pic, but once in 3 years! I hope the engine hasn't seized due to lack of oil change buddy. Get that checked-if the engine is as good as a 30-35K run bike should be, you won't be spending more than 5-7K on restoration. This is what I would recommend:
                      New tyres: 3K
                      New battery+miscellaneous: 1K
                      Touchups+lacquer coating: 2K
                      General service: 1K
Finish off the deal at 18K, if you ask me. Btw, Ralson tyres?

@tintin708: Chill buddy, don't buy parts unnecessarily. What the bike needs is a check-up by auto electrician. These parts don't fail that easily.

@abhilashabhi12: For the rear I would recommend the tyre that I went for recently-Michelin Sirac Street, available in stock 3.00*18" and also in 100/90/18" size. I say stick to 3.00 for better accelaration&mileage.
If you are on a tight budget, Dunlop GeoCruiser is the next best option, again available in both sizes.

If you are changing both, the 2 combos are suggested:
                      1. Front M45 2.75*18", rear Sirac Street 3.00 or 100/90*18"
                      2. Front Dunlop Ezee Cruiser 2.75*18", rear GeoCruiser 3.00 or 100/90*18"

I have Big Rim to accommodate 100/90-18, If I put 3.00x18 on it, I guess it will look Odd, I was thinking of going with Dunlop Monster 100/90-18, Ceat vertigo 100/90-18 or Mrf meteor 100/90-18

I have heard Michelin's are Soft compound & doesn't last long, what is your take on it ? Does it run at least 25-30k ?

I just put them on last week buddy, too early to say anything!
Anyway, M45 is the soft one, Sirac Street at the rear is on&off road tyre (old Sirac was pure offroading), so will last IMO.
The tyres chosen by you are all heavy&offroading based tyres, I say check out Sirac Street once! If you get it at a good price, it will be better anyday.
Else Dunlop GeoCruiser is an evergreen option-what you had on your Classic CBZ-since you say you have a bigger rim, no prob.!

I have used 15teeth one of the rx 135 when my bike was stock and let me tell you cruising at 100 plus speed was a breeze ! I did a mysore to mandya run with a pillion within 25 mins on that set up.

Service at ZEN TVS is ok.If you meet Mr Murthy ,one of the partners there he is very knowledgeable and then you will get good results.

It really is no big deal and done on a routine basis for mod/racing purposes. But you have to ask around at TVS for that.
