How to use choke? Can anyone explain? After turning on the engine, I gradually pulled the choke lever without touching throttle. Engine shuts down. Is that normal? SVC guy told me use choke at least once in a week to avoid starting problems. I need some guidance in how to use it properly.

Oh NO!!!!!
You pull in choke. Turn on engine. Let engine idle .Turn off choke and revv up...!!!
Don't use choke. It's not necessary for Chennai conditions.
My bike starts with just one kick even during margazhi's coldest days bro. haha.
And please go through the manual. It's there. Almost every basic thing.
P.S: once engine gets used to choke, it will make you use choke frequently.Last edited by srinath2494; 01-31-2016, 11:07 PM.

Re: Suzuki Gixxer 155
As far i have seen my dad (even me) used choke on our old scooter when it didn't start up after lot of kicking.. Mostly in winter or when it wasn't used for a long time.. So i guess it will be the same... When your bike wont start up at all then pull the choke and try starting the bike.. Choke means to allow more oil to come.. Means a bit more than normal when the required oil isn't there to start the engine.. This should not happen with a new bike.. Although i would recommend you to follow what the senior members say here..Originally posted by Cartheknv View PostHow to use choke? Can anyone explain? Choke allows more petrol to come to the combustion chamber, and not oil.Originally posted by EthanReddington View PostAs far i have seen my dad (even me) used choke on our old scooter when it didn't start up after lot of kicking.. Choke may be required to start a cold engine even if it is a new bike!
Isn't it just a myth, that engine will get used to usage of choke !Originally posted by srinath2494 View PostOh NO!!!!!

It is good to start the bike with choke on once in a while, so that the choke cable won't get stuck over course of time.
A stuck choke cable can cause issues later.

Re: Suzuki Gixxer 155
Thanks for the clarification. Sometimes the engine revvs much smoother without any vibrations. When I stop at signal(without turning off the engine) and move again, there's a huge amount of vibration at the handle grip (exactly starts at 3k rpms at both 3rd and 4th gear and continues thereafter) I could feel a helluva vibes(the exhaust note could be felt at handle bar) after crossing 4.5k rpm (around 55 kmph at 5th gear). Is that normal?Originally posted by SatSon View PostChoke allows more petrol to come to the combustion chamber, and not oil.

Sorry, I haven't ridden Gixxer, hence can't comment on the vibes.Originally posted by Cartheknv View PostThanks for the clarification. Sometimes the engine revvs much smoother without any vibrations. Vibrations in general can be due to following as well;
- Wrong clutch setting
- Dirty chain
- Engine oil due for replacement

Bro what exactly do you mean by clutch setting ... Do you mean clutch wire play or clutch plate settings ? Curious since my Devil (NS) is suffering from Vibe-rosisOriginally posted by SatSon View PostSorry, I haven't ridden Gixxer, hence can't comment on the vibes.

Tick marked the other two as completed so was wondering about this clutch setting bit

Re: Suzuki Gixxer 155
Me too on the same boat.. What's with the wrong clutch setting? Can you explain in detail? Recently I had problem with gear stuck in between the nos, took it to the svc. There he changed clutch play like I don't have to pull the clutch lever all the way to the handle bar. Little bit pull works good for changing the gears.. Earlier I had to pull the lever all the way towards handle to shift gears. Is that what you are trying to say?Originally posted by GauravD View PostBro what exactly do you mean by clutch setting ... Re: Suzuki Gixxer 155
Hmm.. Change the engine oil.. Lube the chain.. Also try filling from a different pump.. Thats all i can advice.. Rest the senior members will tell you..Originally posted by Cartheknv View PostLol no.. Starting from 1st gear only.. I could feel the vibes after 3rd gear..
Vibes i used to feel when in between 51 to 55 kmph.. I noticed that went away after i changed the engine oil.. I still get praised by my friends for getting a bike with such a smooth engine.. They never complained of any vibes..

Shifted to shell FS a week before.. There was subtle change in performance. Vibes got reduced a bit. Am using shell v-power from day 1. Thanks for your suggestions.Originally posted by EthanReddington View PostHmm.. Change the engine oil.. Lube the chain.. Also try filling from a different pump.. Thats all i can advice.. Try switching back to Motul.. I personally think its the best for our bikes..Originally posted by Cartheknv View PostShifted to shell FS a week before.. There was subtle change in performance. Vibes got reduced a bit. Am using shell v-power from day 1. Thanks for your suggestions.

Re: Suzuki Gixxer 155
I agree with you. After trying Shell (Advance ultra, AX7) and Motul (7100, 5100 and 3000 4T ), Motul 7100 10W40 is best for Gixxer. The oil easily holds upto 3500 KM in Highway riding and engine feels relaxed. Even 3000 4T is good but not better than 7100. I had bad experience with Shell oils.Originally posted by EthanReddington View PostTry switching back to Motul.. I personally think its the best for our bikes..
