    Hi Guys,

    Have completed 2700 KM, now I could feel some roughness in the driving. My bike is not smooth as same as before. Also feel, pick up had dropped. Do I need to visit SVC? because my second service is scheduled at 4500 KM. Still long way go.

    Also I am getting strange sound from front wheel when I move in 1st gear (especially) when I give high throttle. something is wrong?

    Today tried a hard test on ABS and it worked perfectly. drove at 90 KMS in city and applied break suddenly (not purposefully, did as I had to). Bike stopped perfectly. There is no traction on front wheel (Thanks to ABS). but my rear wheel had a slight skid, which is manageable.

      Hii.... there is traction on the front tyre that is why your bike stopped and abs prevents wheel from locking which provides traction to the front wheel..

High amount of vibrations coupled with long waiting period and high maintenance was a deal breaker . This is when I decided to drop my pre-set notion and explore the market.

        Next in line was CBR 150R, it seemed a bit over priced and also the committed stance made me pass on the same. Post that, I tried Karizma ZMR (did not understand the aesthetic sense behind this design, MEAN NO OFFENSE TO ANYONE), R15 (amazing refinement / fit-finish however too sporty a riding position along with uncomfortable pillion seat). All this meant that I should extended my search further.

        Read some reviews about Gixxer SF and test drove the same. Really liked the seating position and ride-ability in city. It had the required grunt I was looking for and also the design to suit my body type. However wifey wasn't too much impressed. Her major apprehension was that I recently bought a buzz blue Tata Zest and that Gixxer SF Moto GP version has the same color tone . In addition to that, I did not like the white & black color options so this resulted in a stalemate.

        In the mean time I was thoroughly going through reviews / ownership reports of other bikes which may be a worthy candidate and came across this thread. Was instantly hooked to the same and spent couple of days in going through all the posts. With each passing moment, my affinity towards the bike grew. Called up the nearest showroom, obtained details and confirmed availability of the test drive. Visited the dealership on following weekend and felt the bike in flesh. Took a couple of KM test drive, was more or less satisfied and the best part was that wifey also gave her affirmation on styling and color . Booked the bike yellow 'bumblebee' version instantly and paid the balance in next couple of days.

        As the bike was available in stock, there was no waiting period and the delivery was given once all formalities were complete. I have rode it for 75 KM till now and have few queries, that I would like the members to assist me with-

        1. What is the optimal engine breaking-in pattern / schedule I should follow taking engine's health & longevity as primary aim? I have ready many contrasting replies on this thread as a result posting it here for final confirmation.

        2. Do I need to change to Motul Engine Oil after first service or keep following the prescribed Bajaj DTS-I mineral oil till 4K KM?

        3. If anyone is from Thane, let me know a good place to buy nice sturdy helmet & gloves (the one I have presently is a simple ISI mark and not very much comfortable) along with other accessories such as bike cell phone holder.

        Hey congrats on the bike and welcome to the family!

        Running in is a controversial topic. Some people follow it and some don't.

        There are basically 2 ways to run in your new engine. Read the owner's manual and try to stay within the limits mentioned there. Try not to go above 4-5K rpm for long. Don't baby the bike and don't be afraid to use some more rpm if needed.

        Avoid lugging the engine, and sudden acceleration.

        Refer to this article for more details.

        Stick to Bajaj Oil for now. You can change to Motul later.

          Congrats for the purchase. You will not regret on the decision you made. For pillion riding, better you change the seat cover, the rough textured seat cover is not very comfortable for longer duration.

          1. Run-in pattern same as any other 200cc engine. Go easy (<5k rpm) for the first 500kms. Occasionally you can take it to higher RPMs till 8k but not without a sudden burst. After the first service and first oil change, you can take it to 6k rpm regularly and 9k rpm occasionally. No redlining till second 1500kms is strictly recommended. Even after 2k kms never redline the bike in 1st or 2nd gears.

          2. Going for Motul oil is one's own preference. But better to stay with Mineral or Semi-synthetic oils. You can continue using Bajaj DTS-i mineral oil or go for DTS-i/Motul semi-synthetic oil.

          3. Not from Mumbai. Mumbaikars can help you here. For a good DOT certified helmets full faced helmets you can start with MT Axiss or Kranos. Gloves depending on purpose, for cities Scoyco short cuffed and for touring Cramster TRG2 or DSG Prima leather gloves.

              You can search for sunshine helmets shop near teen pati petrol pump.. they keep LS2, THH, SOL & other Helmets.... I own SOL helmet which is strong but heaviest in all... best is MT helmet and they light weight but starting price is 6k

                        My RED ABS Bumble Bee completed 6 months now. I have traveled around 7500KMs in the last 6 months and I must say I never ever regretted that I have bought this bike. Every time I ride this bike I feel that I have opened my wings and flying in the air. I had an 125CC Discover for 9 years and I completed only 34K KMs.

                        This entry level premium bike is real worth every penny we invested on it. Just waiting for the third service.

                          When was the first service/oil change done? If it's more than 2k kms, time for an oil change, not a topup. Also check drive chain slackness and ensure it's lubed.

                          Could you describe the sound more? Does it come at particular speed or is it only in first gear?

                            Hi guys,
                            I have completed 1600Km in my RS , went for long ride to Wayanad ,Kerala last weekend (700Km round trip).
                            The bike was pleasure to ride through out the journey, never felt any pain on my shoulders or arms or spine.
                            I had to take the bike through steep and rough roads and it dint fail me anywhere.
                            I was able to get to a top speed of 129-130 Kmph a couple of times, other than that was at an average of 75-80 kmph.


                            Now i have a couple of questions or doubts that i hope someone can clarify for me ..
                            I calculated mileage during this trip.
                            1st method : full tank to full tank
                            I completed 320Km with 7.8125 liter which gave me a mileage of 40.96 Kmpl
                            2nd method : tried to divide the total trip distance covered vs the fuel bar indication
                            I used up almost 14-15 bars of the fuel indicator for the 700km trip.
                            since the tank capacity is 13 liters i though each bar would be 1.825 liters (8 bars full tank)
                            in that case my mileage would be 30-31 kmpl which did not seem right,
                            some where in this forum i've read that each bar is 1.25 liters, in that case my mileage would be around 40Kmpl which matches the full tank to full tank calculation.
                            so if that is right then does it mean that the fuel meter shows only 10 liters? where is the rest ?is it reserve ?
                            what is the usable reserve, how can i come to know the remaining amount of petrol?


                            My second concern is regarding the top speed , i have seen many videos or post saying the top speed is around 140-150Kmph
                            But my RS started giving RPM limits(orange light) at 130kmph
                            me and my pillion weighs 60kg each, is this the max with a pillion rider on the bike?what factor may affect the top speed?

                            Third concern is regarding the seats. even though the bike was comfortable for the upper body while riding , the lower part was not that comfortable.
                            the seats are bit hard. Can anyone suggest me a good seat cover (type) and place in Bangalore where i can get one.

                            Now that i have completed almost 1.7k should i get a service done ?? the second free service is at 4k km, what should i do when i cross the 2k km mark?

                            I feel the chain slack has increased a bit and the sometimes the gears are not falling to position properly, its like there's no more gear to shift to( though i am at 2nd or 3rd gear,its like the vehicle is in neutral) i have to move the vehicle a little bit with clutch release and then shift the gears.
                            should i get this checked?

                              Trying to sell the bike, It is a VFM but I am unable to connect with it.

                              Major cons :

                              1) Weight

                              2) Sound

                              3) Looks

                              4) Servicing (is a nightmare)

                              Major Pros :

                              1) Mileage

                              2) Top end and cruising speed

                              3) lights

                              Its been a confusion since the day one of owning the bike and its time now to let go.

                                Tank-to-Tank method is the most accurate method to calculate the fuel efficiency in absense of reserve knob. So, 41 kmpl seems to be accurate in your case.

                                The fuel bar method is, although interesting, but a little inaccurate here. Reason is that although there are 8 bars total but to calculate fuel per bar, you need to divide the fuel tank capacity by 9. Because even if no bar is visible, there still is some usable petrol left and the petrol pump sign starts blinking on dashboard.

                                So, total capacity = 13 L
                                Usable quantity = 13 - 0.5 (dead fuel) - 0.5 (empty tank space) = 12 L
                                Total Bars = 8 + 1 (empty bar) = 9
                                Fuel per bar = 12 / 9 = 1.33 L per bar

                                In you case, mileage = 700 / (1.33 * 14) ~ 38 kmpl

                                Others, please feel free to correct the calculation...

                                The weight is certainly the most important factor deciding top speed/acceleration. You + pillion = 120 kg. Thats 45 kg more than the weight on my bike when I did a max of 140 kmph. So, this extra weight is bound to have a negative effect on top speed.

                                Other factors can be high wind/ slope etc.

                                Finally, if you want to attain the top speed, you should start redlining from 3rd gear onwards. Otherwise it is quite difficult to get to the max speed on 6th gear.

                                Having said that, if I were in your place I would have given a serious thought against such actions because the bike is still in the run-in period. Whatever you do to your bike now is going to affect its behavior 20k km later. So, think accordingly.
