Thanks bro I already tried that. But they seem to be scared to open the fairing. I'm still thinking what to do now.

Thanks a lot guys!

The problem now is the dealer is refusing to open up the bike. He says he will do so at 20K Kms now, and he also mentioned that it should go away with time. Will it go away?

The mechanic's are not trained properly and therefore I myself am hesitant to let them open my bike up.

No other SVC in my city. Nearest SVC is Panvel/Thane. Should I go there? Is it worth it?

Thanks again guys for the replies!
Hey,
Do check the service centre at Kurla/Ghatkopar.
They used to be a pro biking service centre and the mechanics were trained to work on the KTMs and Kawasaki machines.
They would surely be able to do a good job without any problems.

It's a little too far, but If I end up having to go to that area I might as well visit a Pro biking showroom. Thanks for the suggestion!

pl try to get hold of the workshop manual that might be lying around in the workshop to find the right clearance values and have it adjusted correctly. maybe even the owners manual might have the spec for valve clearances.. dont let them adjust it randomly based on their 'feel' (they might get it right but dont take a risk)

but do shoot a complaint to bajaj.. be polite but firm.
No you don't sound arrogant buddy you're actually right. They are indeed capable of adjusting the tappets. The problem is they are scared to do so. They say there are too many things that may go wrong and what if they can't fix it. They are afraid to remove the fairing just because it is too much hassle to put it back correctly. But I will send a mail to Bajaj and I hope they provide a solution.

Trust me buddy if I knew how to do it I would've done it without a thought!

Sadly I know next to nothing about how to disassemble a bike and how to adjust tappets. But I'll put more pressure on the SVC now since you guys are saying I should get it done. I hope they do it and do it properly.

Before starting the bike keep pressing the first trip button. Move the key into on position. After 10 sec the icon will blink. Leave the first button and press the second button till the icon disappears.

Best thing is to go to any service centre. And just say that you got it done last week but the icon hasn't gone yet. They will gladly do it in a min.

Try putting in a complaint from the website.
I too had the same issue of parts not being sent to the service centre. After putting in a complaint from the website, the parts arrived the very next day and the work was also done.

If I had even a little bit of mechanical knowledge I would've done this myself. But because of the FI I'm just being cautious and hoping they don't do anything serious when and if I give my bike to them.

Thanks for the pics!

Since you seem to have these pictures, do you know if the RS 200 has an alarm connector like the Duke 200? It should be there in the wiring diagram. Thanks buddy.

I also see many ads for the RS 200 everywhere - owners are selling this bike left right and center. So far, I have read about vibrations, clunky gear box and engine, chain rattling and poor service - Is this common for everyone?

What's going on guys? Can you please shed some light on why you're selling your rides so quickly?
So for both of you xodus99 and musthasir, this forum is primarily for helping respective bike owners sort the issue and give simple and easy solutions. But unfortunately many mistake and conclude that this thread has more issues discussed than success party and hence is a failure model, just buy reading all these threads. Remember, NOT ALL ISSUE-FREE BIKE OWNERS WILL POST LIKE IN FACEBOOK HERE and the ones who have issues will post more.... don't mistake this guys

Regarding Bajaj quality, yes you can't expect Japanese bike level quality, but won't be anything like complaining and no compromises. All Bikes will have some small niggles here and there. How you get yours is based on your maintenance and some luck which can happen even if you buy R3

Yeap they are right. Upon removing the fairing, they might solve your tappet clearance issue, but might introduce some other issue. Good at least they admit openly. Many SVC avoid doing tappet adjustment because it is a more time consuming operation, by that mean time they could've serviced 2-3 other vehicles.

That's the most funniest and stupidest answer I ever heard from a svc Engineer. Over period of time, the gap (clearance) increased and will make a slip in timing chain which can cause other problems which is known to you. It's not a 911 call, but you can wait for your next service if it comes in a month time or 1000-2000 Km away.

----> Please don't attempt yourself. If you are not aware, please refrain from doing this. Skilled ones may find it easy and suggest you, but it's not just a DIY stuff. Plus, the tools that you need to open and adjust (Gauges) aren't enough with what they provided to you.

Its nothing serious, but its irritating. I had the same issue with my pulsar 180 and after numerous complaints I gave up and after 6 years, one fine service day some mechanic just decided to adjust it and finally solve my problem without even me raising a complaint.

The problem is most customers don't raise complaint to tappet sound they think its just normal or that's how "bajaj" makes it crude and not "honda smooth" and the service people are like "that customer has no complaints why are you complaining" it just normal sound.

Regarding the exhaust note, you get this sound puff-puff from the exhaust like its coughing. its pretty clear sound.

There is a thread in DIY section regarding tappet adjustment ,refer to it . It has very good description of what is tappet and how the sound is when it goes loose.

Tappet make sound

No sound at all : Very bad , tappets are running tight
Very mild tik tik noise ( Audible only when ear is close to engine ) : Tappets are perfectly set
Tik tik noise increasing with revs : Loose .

Tappet adjustment barely takes 15 mins , but it took me 1 hour to do so, as i had to remove fuel tank and side panels ( which is actually not required.)

So , first watch some vids over youtube on how to do so , then gather all the required tools .

Only then proceed with DIY. DIY is matter of choice , i chose DIY , because even the best mechanic in town cannot my perfection and love for bike. .

I have seen even the renowned mechs being little careless about adjustments as crucial as tappets, so its upto you whether you want to do it or leave it to mechs.

P.S : i know a mech in Pune who will resolve this issue , he will charge you but he does pretty good job.
Carb Tuning made easy (Thanks Sibun !)

This puff puff sound is present in all the RS 200's I've heard so far, I don't think they will pay attention to it If I tell them to look at it. I guess it is what it is. Happens only at low RPM though.

P.S : i know a mech in Pune who will resolve this issue , he will charge you but he does pretty good job.
I'll check out the thread. But I doubt I can do it myself.

Can you guys tell if my tappet sound increases with RPM in the video? I for one don't hear the tik tik sound much after I start riding. I can hear them again if I hold the clutch in.

I may press the owner of the SVC to arrange a well trained mechanic to sort out this issue.

I have the 2nd service in some 2000 Kms. I guess I'll have to wait till then to get rid of this annoying sound?

Thanks a lot for the help guys.
