  • Re: Bajaj Pulsar RS 200 Owners Review and Experience

    Hi guys,
This is my first post on this website.I truly believe that this thread is a goldmine to all new owners of the rs200 and prospective buyers.A big thanks to all of you who have given your time and effort to help others.

So coming to the reason for this post, I am super excited because i just got my hands on the RS200 (black abs version )Its only been a week.I live in bangalore and got it from popular bajaj, koramangala. I have done 150 kms now, most of it in city traffic(horrible). I have quite a few questions here,so please be patient.

    Major problem
I am not sure why, but my ABS does not seem to be working from yesterday. The ABS light is turned on when i turn on ignition, but once i start moving the light goes off. I cannot feel the ABS working when I brake at around 40-50 kmph. Took it to the showroom as I had to go get my number plate anyway and they told me to go to their service station. The designated service center for rs200 from popular bajaj is the one in bannerghatta road.A quick search online does not give the happiest picture, and also its a bit far away from where I stay,so was wondering if any of you were satisfied with the service you got from any other service station. The showroom said that i can get it sercviced at any service station. Have any of you had any experience in switching your service stations?
    My other questions

Since I am nearing the 200 km mark, I was thinking i ll change the engile oil as suggested in this thread.Do I go with the recommended oil from bajaj or the semi synthetic motul? Should i get it done at an authorized center or with a local mechanic?

The riding in period recommended from bajaj is 2000 kms( in the manual). Which seems a bit too long. For now, I have been making sure that I dont rev the engine too much (dont go above 5k rpm).Is it best practice to follow the manual strictly?

I am getting a fair bit of heat onto my legs after a few minutes of city traffic. When I took delivery, I checked the coolant level in the coolant resevoir tank(white colour) on the right side and it was just above the minimum.I asked for a top up, but the showroom guys would not do it saying the level was recommended by Bajaj.Spent quite a bit of time trying to make sense to these guys, they wont listen.Do you think its causing excessive heating?

The back brakes feel like they are non existent and I constantly find my self having to use the front brake for all purposes. Is it common on all Rs200's?

I am also looking for decent seat covers for the bike and appreciate any pointers on where I can get good ones in bangalore.

Apart from all this, the bike feels super comfortable while riding. My advice to all of you having second thoughts on this bike is to not focus too much on the negatives and focus more on taking good care of it. Love your bike and she will love you back.

To test the ABS, try applying front brake on a smooth surface like garage/tiles. You will feel a pulsating sensation like dhak-dhak-dhak. That's the ABS working. The ABS light glows while ignition is switched on and then goes off. It glows only if ABS is in application.

      My other questions

Many thoughts here, none conclusive. My suggestion is to get the oil change on first service (500 km) and continue with Bajaj oil atleast till run-in period (2000 km). Then switch to semi-synthetic (Motul 5100 etc). To change the oil, avoid SS as it might void the company warranty.

The riding in period recommended from bajaj is 2000 kms( in the manual). Which seems a bit too long. For now, I have been making sure that I dont rev the engine too much (dont go above 5k rpm).Is it best practice to follow the manual strictly?
Again many schools of thought, none conclusive. One thing in common is to avoid engine lugging at all costs and sudden acceleration. Do not hold same RPM for long and make sure every gear gets through the full RPM band prescribed in the manual. I followed the manual but increased the max RPM in blocks of 500 every 500 km.

Heating in traffic is normal. Check if the radiator fan is working fine. Get the coolant topup done in the first service. To check the coolant level accurately, make sure that the bike is not tilted and has been standstill for atleast 10-15 min.

The back brakes feel like they are non existent and I constantly find my self having to use the front brake for all purposes. Is it common on all Rs200's?
Nope. There can be some issues here.

Welcome mate.. ABS light get off once you cross 8 km/hr.. ABS works only if you are decelerating very quick or at slippery roads that has water, gravel or sand.. If you want to check if it's working select a road with mild sand spread over thar.. accelerate to 15 km/hr and apply front brake.. and see if it's working.. Do it only if you are confident enough to recover if abs doesn't work..
In the beginning days rear brake feels like that.. you will get the grip in a while...Actually it is due to the free play.. it is doing its job but we don't feel the bite..
Coolant level shud be between min and max.. top up cost u just 70 rs including tax...

Hey guys today I launched my bike from a signal as I usually do all the time.. but after shifting 3ND gear there was a sudden loss of power, so I engaged clutch and downshifted and upshifted again there was a loud 'KHATT' Sound from the gearbox ,, I was about 9K rpm, did I kill the gearbox?? Or is it normal? I am very worried.

I would say do a linear acceleration test.

Accelerate slowly in 3rd Gear and rev it to where you felt a loss of power last time. If you experience loss of power again, downshift but do blip the throttle while doing so. It's very important to match the crank speed to the engine speed while downshifting. If you don't you can destroy the gearbox in no time.

If you don't hear or feel anything then it's all good. If not, take it to the service center ASAP.

                Hello Guys,

you might have heard about the heavy rains that blocked Gurgaon completely. So, here's a video I shot while going to work on Friday. I am sharing it over here just to show you guys how well the RS performed in water clogged roads, when no other biker even thought of doing it. We did it, on our RS and I was with a pillion who is over 80 KGs which made it more difficult.

The moment I crossed the water drowned area, I was feeling so good about our bikes! It was a top notch performance for me, totally loved it ! It has made me trust my bike even more and what we say, the bond grows stronger and stronger !

If you feel the video is boring you can jump directly to 03:00 to watch the bike in action !

Please feel free to share your suggestion and comments.

I look best when I take my helmet off, I have a glow on my face and a bit of helmet hair ;)

Good to see.. Am from chennai and I kinda did the same when first flood had hit chennai on November last year.. There is no problem if the water level is below rider seat because there is your air filter ..ecu .. Don't do it again if you think water level is upto you headlight because if there is even a small pit , water may rise and get into your electrical parts like Ecu and Abs.. My bike got submerged in second flood dec 1st.. I had to spend 45000 to restore it.. Money isn't the problem, seeing our bike drowning is
Many people thinks water gets to engine only through silencer but the fact is water enter engine much easily through air filter

At 110-120kmph studds will not protect your head better invest in some good riding gears.
