Shifting the gears make harm to bikes .... may be the breakage of teeth of gear tips too.. i think the wear will be great up to addendum( sort of mechanical terms) of gears. so please dont try this....

When shifted correctly, it won't cause any damage apart from normal wear and tear. It also helps reduce clutch wear. But till the time one tries to learn the art, it will cause slight damage, not to the teeth but the shifter cogs.

I bought RS 200 and at 360km I changed my oil to Motul 5100 15W50, and I have run till 600km now. I am planning to give my bike for first service at 700km.
However I recently came across comments that recommended mineral oil till run-in is over. I was planning to keep using Motul 5100 for now, but should I switch to mineral oil now for the run-in? What would you suggest?

You can run-in with FS oil itself, no need to go with mineral oils, older engines a few years ago where required to run-in with mineral oils, now it is not required.

Ashish, It won't harm the bike unless we are doing it wrong. Also it is not very feasible in city traffic because of heavy down and up shifting. On highway rides it is really effective and can be performed to it's best. Having said that I would advice start using it full fledged after the run-in period. By then gear wheels would have fitted perfect and smoother shifting will be possible then without causing not much wear and tear...

No need to switch to mineral oil.
I've been on Motul 5100 since first service.

Upshifts aren't much harmful when you do it right. Downshifts are not easy, because of the load, it can damage the cog set assembly. I didn't find it encouraging much and also I can go with the clutch wear and tear phase instead of damaging the gears.

Yes we were talking about Upshifts only... Downshifts are not advisable clutchless because generally when we are downshifting the engine is usually speeding down and to throttling so rapidly will push us into wrong rpms which is not good for the cog set...

After my first service I have taken my bike in 130kmph at 9K rpm several times. Likewise, I have ridden it below 50KMPH maintaining 3.5K rpms. Net net, I would say, I have given the bike maximum pressure (have not touched orange light) that it can take and also I have taken care of it like a baby. I cannot imagine riding my bike below 60kmph for 2000 kms and then giving it a pressure of riding in 120+ kmph and making it choke.

                      Greetings!!
I study at IIT Hyderabad doing PhD in propulsion and aerodynamics. The temporary campus is located at 60kms from Hyderabad, at Ordanance Factorory, Medak.

Its been almost 20 days that I got my bike (Yellow-ABS), and have ridden it for 500 Kms. (Got it after doing lots of savings....+increased stipend from this year for phD students) Will get the service done asap. Here are my observations:

1.Vibrations b/w 4.5-5k, very small amplitude and manageable vibrations (Will notice them once you settle in the RPM range). None of it like old Pulsars/Karizma/apache.
                      2. Headlamps- The place where I live has almost no working/poor street-lamps. So, the projector head lamps work excellently. Plus, the raised rear light is visible from trucks/buses easily. Although I have to switch to low beam when someone is coming from opposite direction, as they are literally blinded by its projector.
                      3. Styling-Does attract a lot of attention!! ( its the only big boy in the entire campus... I try to hide it as much as possible to avoid unnecessary attention, and take it for ride on sunday+30 min everyday...I still take my bicycle to the insti from hostel.)
                      4. Noise- The sound is completely different above 5K rpm. It sounds like a proper racing bike!! But below that, it sounds exactly like KTM 200 duke.
                      5. Despite its weight, it leans easily into the corners. The weight is an issue, only if you try to drag the bike manually.
6.Run-in: I've been running at run-in speeds (~3.5K rpm) for 90%, rest 10% I occasionally take the bike to higher rpms(<6K), to perhaps have the engine adjusted to torque delivery at higher rpms( or perhaps I am unable to control myself). Moreover, here the roads are always empty.... its difficult to resist the temptation. But still no sudden accelerations. And yes.. its difficult to manage run-in speed on open roads...
Well its a moded KTM duke 200 engine, and they say its OK to keep the engine rpm <7K. So....
                      7. Clutch lever is bit tight for me during operation, will get it adjusted during service.
                      8. Fuel efficiency: ~42kmpl.(7 ltr->340 km). I prefer to keep the tank full... always.

Proud to own a good product of international standards which is Made in India.
                      (Although Bajaj service/dealers = unpleasant experience, but ... )

I changed the oil myself. Im going to do that continuously, and not use Bajaj oil. There is a lot of conspiracy that the SVC guys don't have cleaner oil, and they occasionally use 10W40 instead of 20W50. Why take chances!

I changed the oil myself at 350km. I am planning to give my bike for the 1st service at 700km (probably tomorrow). I will be asking them to just change the oil filter and use Motul (I have already bought a couple of bottles just in case they don't have). There were quite a few posts complaining about the quality of oil (not just from the manufacturer, but the cleanliness they maintain in the SVC); there were complaints that not even the right grade oil was used in a few cases (10W40 was used in stead of 20W50, just because they were out of stock). I didn't want to take risk.

That's why, occasionally you should open up the engine, but that doesn't mean reving up to max. Only at low rpms, you can help shape the engine inline walls to perfect. Higher RPM does the opposite and will make it rough at the end. Occasionally moving above 6000RPM is recommended, but definitely continuous ride at high RPMs is not healthy for engine. For now you take care, and she will take care of you well later.

Come on bro, you have spent ~1.5L for a bike and can't wait for a month to pass?. Safe riding...

You can wonder why KTM suggests upto 6000 RPM as run-in whereas pulsar almost having identical (in case of NS\AS) suggests nothing more than 3.5k RPM.... Well, Bajaj itself is not sure about their engine and therefore being safe asking you to maintain <50kph

I got the first servixe done at 600kms and riding at a maximum speed of 50kmph till now....

The service guy told me to maintain this speed till the second service which at 5000kms.

Please suggest if as of now i can run the beast at high speeds or not.
If yes, then what should be the maximum speed i should run?
