What do you ppl use to clean the bike? I'm struggling with the black color. It catches dirt and grime very easily. Everyday I need to wipe it! Very annoyed. Even after wiping the stains are there.

Dont keep on wiping everyday......if it gets too much dust...just dust off the surface with a soft cloth or the thing thats used to dust off car windscreens .....dont rub the surface.....

after service....get a teflon coat...or some wax polish...... But everyday use of bike will get it dirty....so get used to it

I live outside a sports ground, so my blue gixxer accumulates a lot of dirt everyday. I wipe my bike with a wet cloth every morning before the first ride. Looks as good as new.

Wax will definitely help with the shine.

Hi all. I Just got my Gixxer SF Double Disk Red delivered last week (will post pictures soon). I have few questions. Please pardon the noobness as this happens to be my first bike (or any motor vehicle overall) :

              1) As I am planning to get it Teflon coated on the first service, how long does the Teflon coating stay before I have to re-coat it?

              2) Does regular waxing "ON" teflon coated bikes provide any extra shine or it is unnecessary?

              3) How often (or no of kms) it is advisable to lube the chain? Do I need to avoid the chain when I am wet wash the bike? Do I need to re-lube the chain in case water gets on the chain to avoid drying up and subsequent rusting?

              4) How to clean the Air Filter?

              5) How often it is advisable to replace the engine oil and the oil filter after the first service, given the subsequent services are to be done after some hiatus?

              6) How often do you guys check your tyre pressure?

Congrats on your new ride brother. may you have many many happy and safe miles on your bike.

                1) As I am planning to get it Teflon coated on the first service, how long does the Teflon coating stay before I have to re-coat it?
Ans : Teflon coating is a scam, they just use good quality wax polish and buff to a perfect shine and charge you 500-700 rs for it. You will get 4 coats of that so called Teflon coating for your 500-700 rs. My advise - don't go for it. Instead buy a good quality wax polish and do it yourself. Even the most expensive one will cost you less than 500 and you will have a big pack of polish to use whenever you feel like it.

                2) Does regular waxing "ON" teflon coated bikes provide any extra shine or it is unnecessary?
Ans : As said above. If you still have doubts, let me know.

                3) How often (or no of kms) it is advisable to lube the chain? Do I need to avoid the chain when I am wet wash the bike? Do I need to re-lube the chain in case water gets on the chain to avoid drying up and subsequent rusting?
Ans : Usually chain cleaning is recommended at 500 - 700 kms. But this period can be affected by many things. The lube get washed out easily in the rains so you may have to clean and lube the chain more frequently during monsoons. If you ride on dusty roads with sand and loose dirt the and dirt will stick to the chain and will make it dirty. My advise would be to check the chain everytime you clean or wash the bike (I do it once in 2 weeks). If the chain looks dirty or dry, clean and lube it no matter how many kms it has done).

                4) How to clean the Air Filter?
Ans: you don't have worry about it, till you have free services, they will take care of it. Use this time to learn more about your bike, most of these things (General maintenance) are given in the user manual. Read it thoroughly and you will have answers to all your questions. For any specific ones - we are always here to help.

                5) How often it is advisable to replace the engine oil and the oil filter after the first service, given the subsequent services are to be done after some hiatus?
Ans : As said above - all is given in User manual. Read it thoroughly for answers. Also you need not worry about it till you have free service coupons. Let them change it according to the company instructions.

                6) How often do you guys check your tyre pressure?
Ans : every 200 kms or 20 days (whichever comes earlier). If I'm not wrong Gixxer has tubeless tires. They will not lose air when you get a puncture, so check pressure every 20 days and it should not drop less than 5 PSI. For example if you filled 36 PSI in the rear than after 20 days the tire pressure should be above 30, not below. If it is less, then there is a chance of minute puncture, which is leaking air, get it checked. Also check tires every time you clean your bike and inspect for any foreign bodies present or cracks.

Thanks for your prompt explanations. You saved me from that scam than : ). Always had this feeling Teflon saved the body from scratches. As per your response, I need to urgently learn how to clean and lube the chain. Any recommendation for chain cleaners and lube?

You can visit any bike accessory shop to see what options you have.
The most popular ones are Rolon chain cleaner and lube. They have good reviews.
Among the premium ones motul is the best option, although a bit expensive.
Try getting the Cleaner and lube combo, it saves you some money and is cheaper than buying both separately.

If you still wan to reduce the cost. Clean using diesel and lube using gear oil.

Motul chain clean and chain lube available at most suzuki svcs comes to about ~₹1150 total. You can also use 3M chain cleaner and lube. Both brands are available online at slighly cheaper rates than the svcs. I currently use motul chain cleaner+toothbrush and 3m chain lube. 👍
I clean and lube the chain every 550-750kms based on how dirty it is.

So, I got a mileage of approximately 47.27 kmpl.
The distance covered comprised of around 380-400 kms highway and the balance was city traffic, almost half of which was B2B traffic.
I rode at an speeds ranging from 50 kmph to 65 kmph on the highway with short bursts upto 71kmph (5k RPM).
I've changed my shift pattern to that as specified by XeonGhos7, upshifting between 4.5-5k RPM and downshifting at 3-3.5k RPM (he specified 3k RPM as far as I remember).
Only 47? My CBR250 gives 48kmpl if I stick to 71kmph on the highways, shifting at 4k rpm. I have to go through 30 kms of city road before reaching the highway.

You're either using sarcasm or dead serious.
Anyway, my bike is new and under run-in, so the mileage will be less.

A squid crashed into me 2 days ago (Sunday evening). He decided to cross the divider and venture into the oncoming lane just to overtake a car or two in his lane. The maniac crossed through a gap in the divider like racers ride onto the track from a pit-lane. There was a car to my left and the divider to his left, hence none of us could avoid the collision. And what's worse? He loses control and accelerated right into me. I was at 60kmph when I saw him and braked, when I hit him I was doing around 40kmph, he was probably doing 50-60kmph. Luckily, apart from a little cut on my elbow and a hit to the left chest near (and including) the left collar-bone, I was unharmed. He fell with the bike after the impact and fractured his left leg.

Behold, my bike that was just 10 days old when the incident occurred! That's the squid's CB Twister on the right. Barely any damage taken!

Thankfully, I have insurance and the number arrived on Sunday itself. Since Sunday was a half-day for the showroom peeps they asked me to visit on Monday for the number-plate installation but well, this just had to happen!

His friends visited me and pleaded that I claim insurance because his hospital bills will cost about 1 lac INR. God knows what's so expensive in a leg fracture, I'm visiting the hospital to pay that little screw-up a visit and check how genuine this expense is with the doctor there.

They said they'll pay the remaining amount that the insurance company does not admit. Thanks to this little prick, the resale value of my bike will also take a good hit of about 15k INR, which I will try to extract from him. Also, since my bike won't be home for a good 12-15 days, I have to get beaten up in the Mumbai locals and Thane buses. I hate how these morons can put people through inconveniences just because they choose to break the law.

So anyway, out of sheer frustration, cheers to the first SP Edition Gixxer SF crash on xBhp!
