      • Re: Suzuki Gixxer SF : Ownership thread

I am having a weird problem recently. Sometimes when I turn the Key to "Ignition" and set the Engine Kill switch to 'ON' the whole display / electricals goes blank after coming (READY) -- bike refuses to start at this point with the starter or kick. Its only if I toggle the Engine Kill switch or turn on the headlamps and then setting the Engine Kill switch to 'ON' is when it works.

So I will just repeat the sequence to ease the confusion for the readers.

        1) Engine Kill Switch is set to 'OFF' as per my habit when the bike is parked.

        2) I put on the Key and turn it to 'Ignition' -- Display comes live and says 'READY' along with the Neutral Indicator (Business as usual).

        3) I turn 'ON' the Engine Kill Switch -- Display and Neutral Indicator goes blank. Engine refuses to start as it happens when you set the Key to 'OFF'.

        4) At this point I toggle the engine Kill Switch ( OFF -> ON ) or turn on the Headlamp before toggling it and now the display stays live.

        5) Bike starts.

Seems like some sort of a lose connection. Any ideas?

P.S. -- This doesn't necessarily happen during the first start of the day. Sometimes happens during a short break.

I had a problem similar to that, turn key in ignition, press start, display goes blank. I posted about recently here only.
It was some lose contact only..

Don't really know. Gave it to a service centre, where only the mechanic knew what was wrong, and he wasn't there when I went to collect the bike.

Seems you have some loose connection or short circuit due to water (rain water) inside the plug where the actual right switch assembly plugs into, at right front side of the tank or just behind the side fairing.

You cannot see water layer from bare eyes, better you put WD40 Spray at the socket and leave for 10-15min then plug again.

Ok so this is revelation for me. Apparently the SP edition of SF and naked bikes have been changed for 2017. 2016 SP edition has been phased out. Seems like they are keeping it true to the name, a special edition every year I guess, but for how many years will this keep going is the real question.

I know, a lot of people out here do despise sticker jobs and colour scheme upgrades. But I find them beneficial. It keeps our bikes from becoming too common for the common eye and in turn decreasing the road presence. Phasing out early generation older schemes is nice too in the sense it provides a rarity value to those old models. I haven't seen much of my 2016 Plain Double Disk Red out here as much as I have seen people riding around the MotoGP Edition Blue. So ya, the variety is great for people who like to stay apart.

Absolutely true. Suzuki are playing it right.

Someone should tell this to Yamaha. They made a complete mockery of the special edition Funda. Their special editions are seen on the road more than traditional colours. I remember buying the military green limited edition scheme back in 2013 when it came out first. Mine was the 2nd delivered in the city and now it's the most common colour on the road to the point they even launched scooters with it. So much for 'limited edition' :/

Comeon dude, dont call it double disc. Its just rear disc. Front disc brake has become a norm now, even scooters are getting front disc brakes.

As far as the Red is concerned, its a very unpopular color atleast at the dealership I bought from. In the span of 1 year, they sold only 2 red GSX150s

Blue is probably the obvious choice for all the young fellas.

Black is for those who want to be discreet about their presence lurking from shadow to shadow

I am positive you asked this question atleast twice before. Nobody who has responded in this thread since its inception has claimed to be a Suzuki representative meaning nobody will have the price list. [except maybe one person who made one post and disappeared]

Go to your nearest Suzuki dealership and ask them for the pricelist which they probably will refuse to give because its not for customers. However if you tell them what parts you need then they will get you the costs for them.

If the Limited / Special Editions become 'THE' De-Facto. Yes, then it makes no sense. And yes, the military colour is all I see these days :P .

'Gixxer SF DD' is all they write during services and wrote on the challan when I bought the bike, so it became a habit. 'Rear Disk' is a fair term yes. My initial choice was the black. But as it seems, the black sort of obfuscates the muscles and curves of the bike. Makes it look so small compared to the red that I had to re-consider. I saw them side by side.
