As far as I know, knocking has bad impact on the engine, and so by the looks of it, with less knocking, isn't the engine going to be in better shape for longer(specially when you have to cross 10 red lights in just 10 km everyday, knocking do happen a lot at lower rpms)?Originally posted by speed deamon View PostIts just premium petrol (higher octane petrol) which reduces knocking tendency compared to normal petrol... its just for good performance that's it nothing to do with the engines but its preferable for high end bikes greater than 250 cc performance bikes. The manufacturers itself recommend to use higher octane petrol because the performance bikes will have higher compression ratios which of course increases the knocking tendency if normal petrol is used it doesn't make any difference to our bike as far as i know.
And about experimentation, I'll definitely do it after runin period of the bike will be over, also can give it a try on my recent bike but the tank is already having 10 ltr normal unleaded petrol and I might have to finish it first.
buddy, I really don't know much about the petrol pumps and specially in new city, I might find it even more difficult to find which one is having good reputation.....Originally posted by SparKot View PostType of fuel is only one factor among several other that influence mileage.
I think(no expert), you can find a reliable bunk who has good reputation for quality(you know what I mean) petrol and feed GS with normal unleaded petrol.
However, you can experiment with different types though.
PS: For the initial punch and Hmmm factor, GS is not a candidate. A good all rounder though.
So if anyone can throw some light on how to find this thing out, plz help....

This is the first time we are hearing about vibration in new GS. Even the headlight visor and visor nuts are redesigned to eliminate the old vibration. So ride another GS to ascertain that what you feel is vibration of the bike.
Check the idle rpm after riding 4-5 kms and adjust it to 1400-1500. Then check the engine mounting bolts and both axle nuts and tighten those in correct torque. Check the seating of the crank bearing, readjust or replace the engine balancer and adjust the chain slackness.
Finally and if necessary, retune the carburetor at the SC bringing down the CO level to 0.15-0.20%.

Does suzuki repaints the old bikes if yes wht will be the cost??
Each of the side panels costs Rs. 1710/- and the tank Rs. 4700/-. The SC will help you to repaint the bike with same color paint.

Try changing Engine oil. Check the oil level too.Originally posted by dbosnit View PostHey all,
I am facing a problem mentioned by few GS150 owners. Everyday to start with bike is smooth enough (no noticeable vibrations for about 4 km).. Then I experience the vibration slowly increasing in amplitude around the 4000RPM mark at footpeg. After few more kms noticeable vibrations are all over the rpm range above 3000rpm except for 6th gear where it is pretty smooth.( FYI First service is done, I have done 750kms & I travel 40kms a day in total in a mix of highway and cityroads, never go above 60). Also the PULLING POWER decreases once the vibrations set in..
Also I notice tat idling is hardly noticed initially (no vibrations I mean) but after 20 kms or so I do notice at traffic stops the idling is rough.
Any suggestions??

I bought a new GS recently and I find vibrations at the same spot you mentioned. But I don't feel any vibrations when my bike is idling or like the other incidences you have mentioned. I used to ride a first gen GS before and it had slight vibrations at about 3.5k RPM. I think this is the point of highest resonance which is an intrinsic property of the engine. But, my bike has done only 150km since the past 14 days so i'm waiting to run it in properly before coming to any conclusion on the matter.Originally posted by dbosnit View PostI donno if its cooling sys or lubrication sys workin more efficiently at higher rpms or if this is a result of something else...
Instead of going in for more expensive fuel to avoid knocking, why not ride in the correct gear?Originally posted by Gagan0123 View PostGuys, I'm struck with one more question about GS150R,
Which fuel should be used with it?
Normal petrol, Speed 97, XtraPremium or any other?
If my memory is to be believed, a few hundred pages, our fellow member, animeher argued in favour of the Motoman method, so is he the first?Originally posted by SparKot View PostHowever, you would've been the first person to do it with GS150R as no other GS owner tried it so far.
My new bike too has similar problem but I don't think its as serious as dbosnit's problem. I will wait for the first service atleast before taking any of these measures. The oil level seems fine.Originally posted by punarvasu View PostThis is the first time we are hearing about vibration in new GS. On another note, does anybody here know whether the handlebar end weights of the Suzuki Heat is a direct fit on the GS150R?In today's world, quotes don't matter. Quotas do!

All have to change engine oil and check its level periodically; at the same time we should keep in mind that Engine oil is a essential fluid;but not a magic or Satanic substance that resolve all major or minor issue with the bikeOriginally posted by kripscorp View PostTry changing Engine oil. in regards to dbosnit's issue i feel it started after his last service may be some minor settings causing it.
dbosnit need to take it to SVC to rule out issues if any, and the suggestions given by punarvasu is the right way to deal with this issueSarcasm is my automatic response to stupidity

Hello friends.. Completed 820 kms, planning to give for first service tomorrow.. have been riding under 4k rpm and using all 6 gears.. hope that is ok..
after first service is done, what kind of rpm limit should we follow? Thanks..
The riding experience has been good, never rode a bike before.. so it has been a learning experience in riding too.. frequent stopping and starting at traffic intersections is a pain.. put in 1000 rs. of petrol till now, and 820 kms completed.. had shoulder aches when carrying laptop in backpack, so now putting backpack on the tank/seat and resting on chest..

From 800km till 1600 kms you can go upto 8k RPM. Make sure you accelerate slowly.Originally posted by Cher View PostHello friends.. Completed 820 kms, planning to give for first service tomorrow.. have been riding under 4k rpm and using all 6 gears.. hope that is ok..

As for the backpain, try to get a bungee net that you can fix on the back seat so that you can keep your bag there or get bungee cords. In today's world, quotes don't matter. Quotas do!

For the next 200kms ride it like now.. then gradually raise the rpm day by day upto 7k range... use all gears..Originally posted by Cher View PostHello friends.. Completed 820 kms, planning to give for first service tomorrow.. have been riding under 4k rpm and using all 6 gears.. hope that is ok..

I always carry backpack , never had backaches,, but the backpack just moves and fits in the rear slope which makes my seating posture altered (this happens only when continuos bumps are taken)..that is litlle irritating while riding..

Both are having the same handlebar, same foot pegs, same mirrors, etc..Originally posted by vikhyath View PostOn another note, does anybody here know whether the handlebar end weights of the Suzuki Heat is a direct fit on the GS150R?
so the handle weight should fit..,
I'd replaced my handle weights with that of FZ's.. costed 52rs..

As per the user’s manual, it is below 5K up to 800kms, 7.5 K up to 1600 kms and 10 K after that.Originally posted by Cher View Postafter first service is done, what kind of rpm limit should we follow? Thanks.
Ours costs Rs. 95/- and is a little bigger. If you feel any vibration on the handlebar, replace that weight with the original one.Originally posted by gmagesh14 View PostI'd replaced my handle weights with that of FZ's.. costed 52rs.

That jerking in slow speed is called snatching. Knocking is different; an abnormal sound. Most people confuse snatching as knocking. Maybe others can shed more light on this.Originally posted by Gagan0123 View PostAs far as I know, knocking has bad impact on the engine, and so by the looks of it, with less knocking, isn't the engine going to be in better shape for longer(specially when you have to cross 10 red lights in just 10 km everyday, knocking do happen a lot at lower rpms)?
