  • hi guys..i did emission test today..result made no sense to me...please help..

    Pres STD Measured level
    CO 3.5 00.490 %vol
    HC 4500 00106 ppm
    CO2 -- 06.35 %vol
    O2 -- 18.91 ppm

are these levels normal? the emission testing guy said so..also apparently there is no longer a EMISSION TESTED OK sticker given..is that true??

on another note i have now covered 10200 KM on my bike..smooth as ever...mileage of 43-45..gear shifts are sticky..and at high revs the bike coughs sometimes...due to me not being in the country for a couple of months i missed 1 free service and 1 paid service..

my handle bar is a little bent and am planning on claiming insurance and changing the whole handlebar-headlight setup with the 2012 model..cost is 4-4.5 k approx...is it worth changing..it has no effect on my riding..

also i notice that the chain gets loose very fast...almost every 500-700 kms..does this effect mileage?? everytime i hit a bump there is metal scraping noise due to this and the centre stand hitting the chain cover..

Any bangalore junta have the new 2012?? how is the new bike compared to 2011 model..has anyone from bangalore done a HID with full DC conversion?? can we co-ordinate to meet all b'lore GSPIANs and discuss this change for al bikes..

some of these questions may have been answered already over the past pages..but whats the harm in asking again..

Change the handle bar if it is bent. The main difference of the new headlight is the visor and visor nuts which helps to reduce the vibration of the bike.
The headlight assembly including the reflector and bulb costs Rs. 1200/-, the visor costs Rs. 305/- and the handle bar, another 300/-. If you are planning to replace the speedometer, you will have to pay another 1000/- rupees.

Please read posting No. 15020 of gmagesh on page 1502. In addition to that, check the headlight beam level and ask to adjust it if necessary.

Me too! So, I went over to the bike, sized it up for a minute, pulled out a 28mm spanner and threatened to break its headlight if it didnt give me more light.

And then there was more light. Solved.

Other users can probably suggest more civilised and gentlemanly ways.

Now I'm struck with a new question, which way to break-in our bike's engine, Company suggested slow process or Motoman's superfast one?

I wasn't aware about Motoman's method at first, but just came to know about it while reading earlier posts, which lead to no conclusion(atleast till as far as I'd read). Even one of my friend(who frequently does stunts on whatever bike you hand him over) has done Motoman's break-in(without knowing that its actually a method of breakin) on a Honda Unicorn, which even after two years of rugged use, runs like charm and has good performance.

So I'm getting confused about which way to break-in my upcoming bike's engine.... help me with that buddies.....
Motoman's break-in has to be done is a specific manner. You need to raise the new engine to peak rpm in each gear, with a good emphasis on deacceleration. But the most important thing is to change the oil after the 50 kms run. If you do not change the oil, the metal still keeps floating in the oil could cause further abrasions on the head. The method our friend Rama suggested is tested and found effective by him and his friends but some of us are adopting a different method.
What we did is this: Rewound the stator coil with 18 or 19 gauge winding wire, replaced the RR with that of Ape three wheeler, connected the AC voltage from the stator coil to the new RR and the DC from it to the battery to recharge it and connected all the electrical including headlight to the battery. After that, we replaced the stock headlight bulb with Osram Night Breaker or Philips Xtreme Vision 55/60 watt bulb.
The result, though not as great as the result of the former method, is satisfactory. Try it.

Sathya are you looking for a more powerful beam(bright) or focused beam,

if you need more powerful headlight beam means follow what mahesh and punarvasu says

if focusing is the issue then contact SVC to retune the focus if not satisfied try replacing the reflector

I am not getting what is ailing my sweet bike right now, has it got something to do with the clutch plates or the performance tuning??? , I cannot make up my mind about.

Please provide ideas regarding this !!
No idea if this helps or is even related, but still:

a similar thing used to happen on mine in 3rd gear and no other. At mid rpms, under constant throttle, it used to sputter for a moment every few seconds, but used to get back to normal as the rpms climbed. i lived with it for a while, unable to make head or tail of it.

i recently changed the spark plug and the issue is surprisingly gone or has atleast gone unnoticed till now. My afr is also set a bit rich. that could also be a factor.

but given that youre using an iridium plug, proven to be consistent under very harsh conditions, i dont know what to say. try another plug in any case just to be sure. its a cheap fix if it works out.

                      You are right about it.

                      First reason,
My bike jumps in first gear, on slight clutch play, no doubt the clutch plates has enough thrust up its sleeves.

                      Second Reason,
SVC guys "cleaned the iridium spark plug" on my bike.

Trust me, I know that my spark plug has gone kaput by now

                      Thanks for the observation

Haven't tried it on bikes, but this trick really works on computer, I mean, if its not working properly just take a bat and position it as if you are going to hit the computer and tell it that if it won't work properly its gonna be history, and it will start working like charm, I guess this is what it happens with the HeadLight also

Thanks for sharing this, but I am not actually sure about breakin in with MOTOMAN's breakin since I am lacking the exact figures like, how many km to drive in first run, how many km in second run(after changing the oil), and how many total km for complete breakin(I guess its something around 1000km)
But exact figures for our bike are not present, while the ones for higher end bikes are given(greater than 500CC) which wont suit our all rounder bike I suppose.....

                          • I decided to take a test ride on the GS150 as well as the SZ-R. First headed to Akshay Suzuki at Parel. They had a test ride vehicle. I did not want a customer's vehicle. The dealer Mr. Joshi showed me around and answered a lot of queries. I am told the bike is now available in 7 days after payment instead of the earlier 3 weeks waiting period.

They offer insurance only from New India. I was told that I could take it from elsewhere if I wanted to. He had the white, black and orange models on display. The blue one was missing. Most bikes come with MRF tyres, sometimes CEAT. No choice provided. Bike comes with Exide Freedom battery, sometimes AMCO, again no choice.

I was told they stock the bikes in Malad, but when asked if I could choose my piece, he refused. The test drive was really nice and built my confidence in the machine. I first tested alone, then with a pillion, the bike pulled really nicely. Seating was very comfortable. The bike comes to life with a nice smooth purr. I am told that the 2012 is not just a cosmetic upgrade. There are engine refinements done. Power has increased from 12.5 to 13.8bhp (Can someone confirm this?) And the FE is further improved by 10%

Overall, a solidly built machine which should last me for a 100k or above like my first bike. Only flipside is that I am told that the spares are not available in the open market and I need to order everything through the service center. I can't imagine myself going there everytime for things like cables or brake shoes.

Next stop was Kamla Yamaha. We were not allowed to test ride the SZR, but just look around. But we were certainly not impressed by the Yam after the Suzuki ride. The tank shrouds were touching my knees and the handle bar seemed cramped.

It is now almost certain that I will book the GS150, but I need to clear the scene about the spares. I am a DIY guy and don't want to depend on the dealer even though he promised a turn around time of 1 day for anything. Can some Mumbai guys help me with their ownership experiences?
Better late by 30 minutes than early by 30 years.

The person who told you that the engine power has increased was bluffing. There are no changes in the engine specs but the refinement has increased.

As for your query about the spares, there are many mumbaikars on this thread who are very experienced so they can answer that.
