Burning Smell
Hi,
I drove 2000km on my bike within 10 days (went to Leh), after which I parceled it to home. Due to some damages in transportation I gave my bike for service.
When I got it back, the bike is emitting some burning smell (metal heating kind) if I go at higher speeds or drive it for more than 20 minutes. Once while
I was driving over 100kmph and throttled down the engine got cut-off!
When I asked the Suzuki service guy, he says it is normal.
I even had the engine oil changed (Shell Advance Ultra), checked the clutch plate and flushed & changed the brake oil too.
I have been having this bike for 3 years now and have not faced any such problems.
Could me please tell whether this is normal or what can I do to get my bike back to normal?
Thanks.

Size / Type of the spanner to remove the Engine Oil Drain nut
Hi All,
What is the Size / Type of the spanner to remove the Engine Oil Drain nut ?
Update after 1 Year of Ownership.
Kms Run: 13000
Mileage: 58 KMPL

Oil changed: Every 2000 Kms currently running with Shell AX5
Services Done: 4 Free Service (last free service at 6800 Kms). Then Self service like Washing, Cleaning Chain, Spark Plug and Air Filter. Adjusting Chain Slackness and Oil Change at Local mechanic Shop. Oil Filter changed at 8000 Kms.
Modification: Changed the Pilot Lamps to Blue color. Looks Good.
Pain Areas: Right Shoulder Pain and a little Back pain.
Overall a good Bike for daily commuting and weekend long rides.
Should i do any other maintenance now apart from all these ?Last edited by BlackPanther; 08-09-2012, 09:23 AM.2005 - Hercules MTB Thriller | 2018 - Apollo Evade

You’re welcome.Originally posted by Vikshe View PostThanks for the correction...

17 mm socket or ring spanner can be used but socket spanner is safer.Originally posted by BlackPanther View PostWhat is the Size / Type of the spanner to remove the Engine Oil Drain nut ?

Instead of wasting time, energy and money to clean the chain, lube it regularly in every 500-750 kms with SAE 140 or 90 gear axle oil and good lithium based grease. And replace the oil filter every time you change the oil.

Check for some plastic parts contacting heated parts like silencer , engine , engine body which heats after some time( say after 20-30 mins), plastic/rubberparts may be cable casing , electrical wires, tubes( drian or fluid) .if your carb setting is too lean you will have issue of heating , engine getting shuttoff after good throtle ride , etc.Originally posted by pearl2487 View PostHi,

@ PunarVasu
Thank you friend. I don't waste much money in cleaning the chain. I just remove the dust after spraying diesel on chain and clean it. Then after it dries, will apply some fresh engine oil.
My road demands that i clean the chain every 400-500 Kms.
Else Noise starts coming up.
If you want off road riding experience, please visit one of the largest residential areas (Avadi) of Tamilnadu.... Municipality never wakes up at Avadi, Chennai.
@Vikshe
Thanks dude. Tried to lower handles towards me. it helped a little. Have to lower a few more degrees and check. I must be 5.9, more than 85 kilos.
I have drained engine oil once, but do not know the spanner size/type.2005 - Hercules MTB Thriller | 2018 - Apollo Evade

Usually Kerosine is used to clean the chain.Originally posted by BlackPanther View Post@ PunarVasu

Advice needed
Hi All,
I have just completed 9000 kms on white GS and planning to go for a ride on Sunday and return on the same day to Malshej ghat I guess it will be around 300 odd kms return trip. Before the ride I am going to the SVC for my 5th servicing tomorrow. Request you all to please advice me on what are the things I should check for e.g. air filter replacement, spark plug replacement, or any other suggestions you guys have got. this is my first bike and want to take good care of it. Thank you all.
PS: any advice on when should i change to semi synthetic oil ?

It's my favorite off roading spot., esp Avadi to Thirumazhisai ...
and another one at Thrumallaivoyal SIDCO to Vel Tech thorugh the loose sand roads ... wow
Refer the manual for things to be replaced and adjusted during 5th service.. Check it with your service manager whether it's needed necessarily now.Originally posted by manrajj18 View PostHi All,

Do change it to Semisynthetic whenever you like.. Bike will not hesitate it unless it's the right grade..
Have fun filled ride...

By default GS goes happy with mineral and SS oil on any Indian terrain, so synthetic wont make any big difference, apart from the owners psychological feel in performance and super smoothness, ride refinement and all blah blah blahs.Sarcasm is my automatic response to stupidity

hello all....
Dear fellow Gsrians!
its very long since i logged in to gsr forum. its nice to see that forum is full of activity.
Meanwhile i am very happy to say that my gsr is a gem. mine is 2010 october model, and she is almost 2 years old now. She has run 26000+ kmts.
I am consistently getting FE between 50-55.
I am now considering to change the rear tyre to either moto-D or michelin sirac street or dunlop monster tubeless. the battery is also need to be changed as bike seldom starts in self starter option. i am considering amaron.
lets see. if anyone has changed tyre please suggest me a good rear tyresigpic

GS150R.. Is it a Good decision instead of buying a popular bike ?
I am planning to buy a 150 CC bike with decent mileage of 45+.
if we're planning to keep a bike for long period, is it better to get a popular bike instead of a bike like GS150R, as after 4-5 years we'll need to service regularly and finding spares for bikes that are not popular can be real pain in the ass.
So, Do you guys suggest in favor of popular bike (say honda Unicorn or CBZ Extreme or Pulsar) over any suzuki so that we can be sure that atleast spares will be available ?
Also GS150R is already getting old and maybe replaced in next 2-3 years with new model ?Last edited by Kiran@Hyd; 08-13-2012, 06:32 PM.
