if we're planning to keep a bike for long period, is it better to get a popular bike instead of a bike like GS150R, as after 4-5 years we'll need to service regularly and finding spares for bikes that are not popular can be real pain in the ass.

So, Do you guys suggest in favor of popular bike (say honda Unicorn or CBZ Extreme or Pulsar) over any suzuki so that we can be sure that atleast spares will be available ?
Also GS150R is already getting old and maybe replaced in next 2-3 years with new model ?
It is the build quality that defines how long a bike will survive...So,any bike will easily stay for 5years when regular maintenace was done and ridden properly..

At this case you dont need to worry about the service centers and spares..

Hope you got the answer, now tell me what bikes you've rejected from the list you'd...

You don't have to service regularly after 5 years , its initial runnin period and how you care during 1st year .GS is as popular as any other bike in certain parts.
Looking at built quality you will be confident that it will last for atleast 10 years or say 100K kms. we have rarely come accross complaints like engine opening , piston /block replacement , engine leaking , smoking exhaust .. these parameters define engine life , though popular models outsales GS by huge margins. We have GS near 85 K odo without any failures.
Even honda didn't change unicorn since its launch apart from small updates and high stickering and will not stop its production even if sells lesser than anticipated.
Its just people like us who overlook quality( & features with models like GS possess ) and just follow what market follows.

How about availability of spares like body panel / headlights / silencer/ Tank etc. if the model is discontinued ?

what ever the GS version it might be Suzuki haven't made major changes on the core part such as engine and frame.

those parts you mention sits or fits on the frame, as the frame remains same no need to bother about the spares availability in simple term i can fit new latest GS head light fiber panel or tank on my 2 yrs + old GS [@ punarvasu correct me if am incorrect ]

in simple words Suzuki latest version is not completely different like Pulsar NS 200 and Pulsar 220

Don't worry about the spares we have compatible accessories and spares available in local market for most of the FRU (frequently replaceable units /spares)

Kindly note: the above response is based on current version of GS; Suzuki corporation holds the rights to modify or abandon with out any changes or discontinue their products at any given point of time in future.

Yes and that too without any question.

Such questions cannot be answered. What to do if the sky itself falls down in a fine, good morning? What can us do other than approaching a black smith to make spare parts if Honda, Pulsar, Suzuki, Yamaha, Bajaj, KTM, Kawasaki and all other bike manufacturers decide to close their factories?

Whether mono-shock suspension, tubeless tires, clip-on handle bar etc. are better or not needs to discussed. After sales service of any bike depend performance of individual service centers.
Now test ride the bikes you are considering, go through its ownership threads here instead of listening others advices and decide yourself. None of us is compelling you to buy any specific bike.

bike has developed some tic-tic sound, service guy has temporarily tightened it and said it is due for replacement, Dealer says it is a wear and tear item so no warranty, what do i do? can i take them to consumer court?
BTW its a slingshot not a GS.posting here cause you guys are more familiar with Suzuki service.

All the defective parts except a very few are replaced within the warranty period. If the dealer refuses to replace it free, contact the company. You can sue but the whole set costs below Rs. 500/.
SlingShot or GS makes no difference.

Perhaps ask him - which are the non wear and tear items on a motorcycle ?
i.e this is the second line of tactic from any company ASC/dealer when you ask for warranty replacement on any parts . The first being that there is no real problem in it and you are imagining the problem altogether .

Availability of spares is issue with all the products in 150cc's , just visit any forrums/threads unlike more common 100 cc's. you can visit any SC , every thing is same , even we have to wait for Activa( most common scooter in india) head lamp for 1 month.Suzuki makes lesser no of GS compared to what honda/bajaj manufactures with uni/pul or xtream, quality is well preserved by suzi, they will not discontinue this model being only 1 from 150cc's for long , even if they launch another 150cc that will be downward compatible to GS 150r.

Is the sounds while gear shifting is common problem for GS 150R(even current model ?) ?

Yes I am confused between GS 150R and Pulsar 200Ns, Though I know both the bikes belong to totaly different segnets.

My main requirements are Looks, Ride comfort( I am 25 Years, 75 kgs, 5.8 height),Build quality & longevity, Mileage of minimum 40 +.

P200NS technology with in 1 lakh price tag is attracting me , But i am little spectical about the mileage requirement of 40+ as I commute around 50 kms daily, Also P200Ns is new and not proven for longevity.

                            • GS150R is a very very good bike. I have one and extremely happy with it.

Look : To me it looks good. It depends on the user's personal choice.
Built quality : Quite good. Rugged. Built to last long.
Durability : Hope it will last long physically and performance wise.
Milage : Never done carb adjustments and prevent SC personnel from touching its carb setting. My bike thankfully returning 58 kmpl consistently (road condition is good in my locality and moderately busy).
Comfort: It is getting better as time progressing. the bike is 10 month old and driven up to 7400 km till date. Now it is very very smooth, vibration free and I enjoy to drive it in long distances like my car.

But, I am 38 now. A government servant by profession. If you are a youth and racing fan and need a racing bike, don't go for it. It is a great commuter friendly bike with the thrill of power and sweetness of good milage.
                              Regards,
                              Partho

There is no gear shifting issue as anticipated , just it has 6 gears and we people are used to 4-5 gears , after 2K km odo its chuck smooth , P200NS is different and doesn't have commuter stance , being powerfull bike milege is doubtfull arround 30-35+ (most of my friends get presently from NS),GS inspite of its weight and size gives 50+ most of the time even at 80 km/h.suzuki should far outlast bajaj in terms of quality, triple spark plugs/4valves tend to make engine head weaker , if you have sporty intention & budget in mind can try R15 , KTM which are proven.
