2012 Suzuki GS 150 R
Hello Friends,
I would like to differentiate between the older version of GS 150 R with the 2012 Version and that is the reason for starting a new thread.
I have booked a GS 150 R - 2012 Edition and the expected delivery is scheduled on 9th Oct 2012.
Out of the several ShowRoom visits and test rides on almost all 150 CC bikes in Indian Market, only three bikes impressed me. I was taking the following factors into consideration:
1, Reliabality
2, Power
3, Style
4, Mileage
5, VFM
The bikes which impressed me are:
GS 150 R
Unicorn
Sz-R
Needless to say that these are Japaneese. When it comes to an engine, I have high regards to German and Japaneese. This is due to the sheer quality of materials used.
Since I am replacing my 8 year old Unicorn, I did not want another Unicorn. That is the only reason behind opting for GS 150 R which has the same refinement.
These are the few things which I noticed in the 2012 GS 150 R:
1, New Improvised HeadLamps
2, ByBre Disc Brakes
3, New shock absorbers in the front
If there are any owners of GS 150 R - 2012 Version, please update the thread with your inputs.
I would be updating this space with photos and reviews after the delivery.
In Bangalore, there is a sales promotion which is 1K cash discount and few free goodies.Live and Let Live >>>

Thread Approved and MergedAdvice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

Hi Vikhyath, Thanks for inputs. I know compromise have to be made somewhere in between Yamaha and Suzuki, Honda is out as I am not able to find suitable bike from their stable. My location is Delhi.Originally posted by vikhyath View PostIt all boils down to the kind of usage you do. If you want a city bike, get a smaller capacity bike and If you want a comfortable highway muncher then get a higher capacity bike. Since all your options are Japanese, you can't go wrong with any one of them. Get a Honda if you are willing to bear the bad attitude of the dealers as indicated in other threads. Get a Suzuki if you have a service center nearby and get a Yamaha if a lower FE than competitors is acceptable. The service center should only be concern if you don't have the time or experience to do the regular maintenance yourself. As you can see on this thread, almost zero owners have complaints with the current generation of this bike. It's a worry free bike with the bonus of a smooth engine at all RPMs and good FE. What's your location?
@ Punarvasu: Have sent you a PM.

Hi thanks for your inputs on my query. I will try to TD this weekend.Originally posted by gmagesh14 View Post@Vikhyath:: Congrats for the research work and looks like your long runs has started.
Thats a good FE for that speed.
@Moonlight:: Welcome to the forum. Replies for your queries a: All the bikes are now teflon coated to avoid rusts in tank. b: Thats is ususal in all the bikes if rev hard, only the sound differs in each and every bike. Nothing to worry about.
My bike is 11months old & it is close to 18k kms on ODO ( +2.5k kms w/o ODO) with trouble free riding with least maintenance. Do you need anything better than this to know its quality.
@Piyush Parekh:: Welcome to the forum. Can you explain it little more?

Since you're located in Delhi, I don't think you'll ever face lack of spares because they are available in the service centers most of the time. You also won't face the the problem of travelling long distances for getting your bike serviced.Originally posted by MoonLight View PostHi Vikhyath, Thanks for inputs. Looks like you'll have to share this space with the rest of us, friend. Welcome to this thread and forum @KinZ.Originally posted by @KinZ View PostThese are the few things which I noticed in the 2012 GS 150 R:

You're observations are correct buddy.
1. Headlamp cowl has been changed to look more proportionate with the rest of the bike.
2. ByBre brakes have more bite. The thickness of the rotor has decreased to too.
3. The shock absorbers have just lost the rubber cladding.
4. Few of the mechanicals like the gearing have changed.
5. The tank has anti-rust coating.
That's great to hear. This will certainly help to keep the sales rolling. Which showroom did you book the bike in? What are the freebies you're getting?Originally posted by @KinZ View PostIn Bangalore, there is a sales promotion which is 1K cash discount and few free goodies. In today's world, quotes don't matter. Guys - I am facing a problem with my GS150R since this morning. Once I start the bike the idle rpm is around 1300-1400 and then the bike switches off. Not sure what the issue is. I am able to start the bike but then the bike just switches off.
What could be the problem? I just want to explore and resolve this problem on my own if feasible.

Completed 72,000 Golden Kilometers in 33 Months. Giving it for servicing on 1st October 2012. Always had the bike serviced regularly @ Dr.Rajkumar Suzuki. used to fill 15 Liters Regularly. Thanks to Xbhp, I came to know that we can fill upto 20 Liters. But I always fill 16 Liters and the bike goes upto approximate 680 Kilometers. Average Service costs has been Rs.800.
The bike is very badly marketed and given step mother treatment by Suzuki. Only die hard suzuki fans will go for GS 150. And they sign Salman Khan to endorse junk bikes like Sling Shot, Hayte. If Bajaj Auto can come with Pulsar 200 NS, Suzuki can do even do better. Even after eight years in the market they launched just three bikes Heat, Zeus and GS and One scooter Access (Moderate Sales). I wonder when Suzuki will wake up.Last edited by sarvodaya; 09-27-2012, 07:12 PM.

It seems you are collecting the details of all the 100, 125 and 150 cc bikes in our market and oscillating between many of them. That is why Stunner, SZR, GS150R, TVS Flame, Unicorn and many other bikes are being considered at the same time. Please see that some of these bikes cannot be compared with as they belong to different classes.Originally posted by MoonLight View PostHi thanks for your reply. My comments in bold.
Yes, you are very right ! And as sensible customer, isnt it logical to compare bikes that fall in our budget irrespective of which class they fall in ? Then after jotting down their pros and cons , decision can be made.
I remember a friend done this kind of research earlier and ended up in buying a certain bike and I know how he is suffering with it now.
suffering with bike after doing research is much better than suffering with bike without doing research. At end of day, one should be content with thought that he put his best efforts to choose bike.
So, test ride all the two wheelers you are considering with and without pillion rider as many time as you can and take a final decision.
Went for Test ride of suzuki GS150r in two showrooms near to my home. One had one black GS150r, none for test ride. Not to mention, it looked like and felt like one of best bikes that CAN rule this segment. Other showroom didnt had GS150r.
pardon for late reply,
we do not buy products like bike every day , doing research on every availablity is necessary though possesing any one of this won't let you suffer as all are quiet compatative in reliability and pricing.
GS is quiet old now since its launch (not as popular though) , so showroom guys may hesitate to offer test ride , will anybody get test ride for pulsar 150/rtr/unicorn easily though for buyer it may be new ride.
Still go for test ride wherever available , it will help you in making good decission , we had done(most of the guys in this forum) the same thing and shortlisted GS150r without any hesitation. this product is well balanced in terms of money , reliability, running cost , performance, satisfaction...whew.

My bike has done almost 10,000 KM in 6 months. Here is a small ownership review from my side:
Likes:
- The smoothness and sitting posture. Both will pamper you to such an extent that if you ride any other bike, you will start feeling uncomfortable after the 2nd minute!
- The big tank and good mileage. I usually fill up 10 liters from reserve mark and it will last me 400 km. Mind you I ride constantly at 90 - 100 KMPH.
- It is a heavenly cruiser. You set it to 85 - 100 and just sit. Forget everything else. Nothing to worry about. It will munch miles and take you to your destination.
- Being a Japanese vehicle, the reliability is very good. I dont abuse my bike. But touch wood nothing has happened so far. No conking off of anything. Average service costs 400 rupees and thats it.
- The mileage if ridden sanely varies between 45 - 50 for me.
Dislikes:
- Service every 2000 KM. This bike will make you ride more and more. So much more that 2000 KM gets over in less than a month. Wish this duration was longer.
- The bike definitely needs a DC setup and better headlights.
Other than these two, the service center network seems to be sparse. It is increasing these days though. In some service centers, the attitude of the personnel is bad. But there is a good number of SVC where fantastic people work. Spot them and take the bike there.
This bike is like a treasure. It is a hidden find. Those who have the guts to go for it will enjoy it to the core. I have done numerous trips on it already and every time I have come out with a smile and more respect for the bike and Suzuki. I am not sure why they are not marketing it well. But this bike which sells for about 75K on road is worth atleast a lakh. Its that good.
Thats it for now guys. Will post more later.2004 Bajaj Discover 125 DTSi - 26000 KM - Sold

That's awesome running within 3 years 72 K !!, your FE is low , me gets 750 kms in 13.6 lit (1000 rs petrol), Suzuki doesn't care to market GS 150r and doesn't want to spend money on advertising , this may be the reason cost of bike is low(with all the goodies) inspite of quality it offers.Originally posted by sarvodaya View PostCompleted 72,000 Golden Kilometers in 33 Months. Suzuki is content with there 4 wheeler counterpart just as Honda is with their 2 wheelers and ignoring 4wheels , its good too , that some lucky mortals to have GS 150r in there backyard , my bike still gets that tiny stares even if parked along with pulsar 200ns , zmr, r15.
