  • Experience with my bike after 12000 kms

    Hi Friends,

    Logging after very long time, and just completed 12000 kms, so thought of sharing my experiences.
    I had bought this bike on 1st Dec-2011 after researching for more than a month. Initially I had decided to buy Hunk mainly for 2 reasons, 1st I wanted to buy 150cc and 2nd the service centre was nearby to my place. I had visited the of Hero Motors and had promised to return within 2 days for booking.
    In the mean time my research was still on, I just happened to visit Xbhp and mainly this forum, I was impressed by the review written by Sam the thread starter, and guidance from Vishnukmd until he dissappeared one day then Punarvasu, GMagesh (clearing my doubts in form of replies to my Questions) and other friends on this forum, I thought of visiting Suzuki Showroom and taking the test ride. I visited Riya Suzuki in Mulund took the test ride and was impressed by the ride so much that I immediately gave him the booking amount and got the bike on 1st Dec-11
    Most of my friends have never heard of this bike and some even concluded it is superbike due to its majestic looks. Like all other in forum, i too got pleasant glares on the road.
    Now experiences with the bike:
    I have to say, the assurance and guidance got from the friends on this forum has been proven word to word till date. I regular took my bike to office which is 30 kms from home. The major part of the route is the Thane - Belapur Highway but occasionally i took the bike on Palm beach road to experience the full throttle, which simply amazed me every time.I had driven all the way through this rainy season of Mumbai and I had to admit it was very comfortable and stable. During this 11 month I had 2 punctures, and thats all. Apart from servicing, only once I had to take my bike for repair, i.e. got my handle changed, that too because of mischief of some drunkards in my area, who twisted the handle in Parking while handling it to make the way for their car. Its still mystery for me how did they do it as there were no scratch on the bike which could indicate that it had a fall.

    Some minor glitches I had during the period that after every 2500 km after services, the drop in pickup and increase in gear change sound after which i immediately took it for servicing. It was butter smooth after the servicing.

    Till date I have not done any modifications or changed the grade of oil which has been widely discussed in this forum, but someday I will surely convert it in full DC.

    All and all I am very satisfied till now and hope it will be the same for the times to come. I thank every one on this forum for the valuable feedback which helped me to buy this bike and enjoy the ride and comfort.

      By the way, almost all the GS owners are completely satisfied with its long term performance. But what lacks in their reviews is the list of parts replaced, and the maintenance cost including the cost of parts replaced. Including it may be more helpful.

          What is the paid service charges for Suzuki GS now ?
          Yesterday I paid 712 rs for regular servicing ( Paid Service ) at Shiv service Pune.

          • Can anyone know on where I can get Philips CityVision Moto HS1 12 V 35/35W Headlight bulb in Bangalore? I guess, this would be a real good replacement for the Stock Headlight Bulb in GS 150 R. This bulb is available in UK and USA. But not sure if it is available in India...               Generally, Rs. 100/- per hour as labor charge, cost of oil and oil filter, 50 rupees as washing charge, 50 rupees for chain cleaning and lubing. Servicing charges are exhibited in the SC itself.

                Usually the labour charge comes up to Rs. 350 for me and they didn't charge me for chain lubing, they said that they do it on all the bikes even if it isn't mentioned on the job cards.
                In today's world, quotes don't matter. Quotas do!

                  Labor charges depends up on the city which you are living. Usually in Hyd they charge 330 Rs for general servicing including all.
                  But in Mumbai labor charges are lesser than Hyd.

                  • Just got my bike back from another paid service and I was in for a pleasant surprise when I cranked the engine on. The exhaust note was different and as soon as I changed into 1st gear, the bike stalled. Not because of any technical failure but because before the service, the clutch had a lot of free play and I was used to that. Now the clutch settings have been changed for the greater good because the clutch feels more springy to pull and the gear changes have become smoother, almost like in the FZ. The accelerator cable play also had been adjusted so the bike just leaped forward in my second attempt to get it moving. The slotting of gears has been a major improvement because previously, I had to double clutch shift the gears. After riding it for 7 kms, I'm left wanting more. Hope they haven't meddled too much with the carburetor.

                    The funny thing is that I didn't ask for anything specifically while the job card was being filled. In all my previous attempts to get all the problems listed on the job card, the quality of service was not satisfactory.

                    • Today,completed 1years of ownership with the heavy duty 150cc bike, GS150R..

                      First, I should thank each and everyone on this forum who were either directly or indirectly helped me making a decision to go for this bike.

                      Current ODO Reading: 19327 kms
                      Recent FE : 52kmpl (with no compromise in acceleration)

                      Parts that were replaced so far,

                      • Engine oil every 2500 - 3500 kms
                      • Oil filter chamged at times during the oil change.
                      • Spark Plug replace to NGK CPR6HSA at 12k kms.
                      • Air filter changed once at 10k kms.
                      • Headlight stay replaced due to a crash.(My fault)
                      • Saree guard too replaced due to the same crash.


                      Sorry I forgot the cost incurred for the spares. All were replaced & installed by me so no labour charges for the same.

                      Modifications done,

                      • Removed the tank cover, handle grip the very next day I purchased my bike. Seat covers were removed later. I felt they are not comfortable and hence removed them.
                      • Bike is converted to full DC after 2nd service. (I'm hereby thanking my good friend Vishnukmd. Without him it wouldnt be possible)
                      • Repalced the stock headlamp with Philips Xtreme Vision 55/60w headlamp, realised it's a must upgrade for every GS.
                      • Replaced the rear tyre with Michellin M45 (4.00*18) at 15k kms, personally didnt had any issues with the stock tyre for my riding condition,so keeping them as a spare.



                      About the service center,

                      Till now I gave my bike at ABT Nandanam,Chennai. I feel the way they treat the customer is good and also the person at stores is also friendly in sourcing the spares quickly if needed. Being in chennai, I dont feel it's difficult to source the spares,atleast here. Regarding service, till now didnt came across any major issues. So Im not complaining anything or expecting more from them. So I would rate them as neutral.

                      My Maintenance,

                      I'm very bad at it, but I'm regular at changing the engine oil every 2500-3500kms. Tried different set of oils with different grades and finally settled with Castrol Power 1ss 15w-40. Lubing the chain and adjusting the slackness were mostly done by me. Very rarely I give this work to SC people. I too had never cleaned the chain, but lubed it. The current ODO reading might be 19327 ,but the actual reading would come to 24k+ kms. Didnt had time to do 8th service for about 1.5months, by that time disconnected the speedo sensor plug to stop the ODO reading. Now too it's disconnected for the due 9th service.
                      Just want to tell that this bike needs a very minimal maintenance even for the rough use. Now I got an excuse to skip the maintenance.

                      Now my experience with the bike,

                      It's been a wonderful experience with the bike so far. Had a good long journeys that I never imagined it would happen in a bike.
                      The main reasons which I had in mind when I looked for a bike was 1. Comfort 2. Decent FE around 50kmpl & 3. Better build quality.
                      And the GS fulfilled all my needs and the purpose for new bike was solved. To people think it's difficcult to ride this bike in city traffic, ride it once and you will never feel its weight. And this bike is also easily fickable like others, once you get used to the bike.

                      Had three set of crash/accidents/damage during this one year. Where only one was happened due to my fault, which happend due to my stupidity of the wrong speed at the corner during night time, which resulted in a bent headlight stay, bent saree guard and handle bar. The other one was by a person who came the opposite way while taking U turn,resulted in damage to the front mudguard. The other one happend when I parked my bike at a bank. Someone made the bike to fall over, which caused a damage to the headlight cowl.


                      My verdicts

                      This bike is good for normal cummuting from point A to Point B, you can also try C,D,E....etc., The point is it's a very comfortable bike and can be driven to any long distance with less efforts and also it gives a better FE compared to other 150cc bikes. A trouble free 150cc bike.

                      Will I recommend this bike to anyone? Surely, and I first tell them not to expect it to perform(only acceleration) like FZs..

                      It's been a lovely experience with the bike so far. Hoping it to continue.

                        I would rate them as 2/10 in terms of rating.... Really they are not helpful in my access125 problem.I am occasional follower so would like to add about the service center.It is the best bike available in the 150cc segment no doubt in it.Moreover your profile picture indicates that you are waiting for Inazuma250.I shoot a mail to Suzuki India still not reply from them which made me to go for NS200. Congrats for your one year ownership

                              • hello everyone... this is small update from my side on completing 40,000 Kms..
                                In this 40k kms, 1 year n 8 months of ownership, my bike never gives me any problem at all.. every thing is just fine with it. decent mileage 55-58, good acceleration, better top-end 125kmph, one time it went to 139kmph with fellow gspians.. also had some long rides on it 550kms nonstop..
                                I am really happy with my GS150R and it satisfied me everytime... this bike is a VFM..
                                This is the list of parts that has to be changed due to normal wear n tear
                                1.Disk brake pad 2 times
                                2.Rear Brake liner 1 time

                                Thats it guyz.. I haven't changed anything more than that due to normal wear n tear.. my stock spark plug, Chain Sprocket, clutch & Pressure plates and tyres are in good shape yet, n feel that it will last me for about 10k kms more.. so for me maintenance cost is very low.. i always change oil n filter at 3k kms interval(after 15th paid service, i change it at local shops).. Brand: Castrol Power1

                                Now battery is showing its age and i need to buy a new battery. which brand is the best???
                                does Sonic batteries are good?? as they give 2years warranty and other brand like Exide gives only 18mnths warranty..

                                Planning for 1500kms ride(To and fro) next weekend.. what say guyz?? should i do this ride in current bike condition or should i put new set of Tyres n sprocket??
