its better to change the oil during the first and second services. Since the engine is not that much used, there are chances that the oil will get easily mixed with small debris of engine. after 2nd , u can count on km's completed or the oil level indicator for changing oil.

and venkan, thanks for that ..

anybody, any idea about coorg? can it be finished in just one "day time" ?

I have lost the manual which came with the bike. Please tell me after how many kilometers it is required to change the oil. I know one of the way is to check by opening the lid and all.... but truly I always get confused Actually I want to do it myself as I doubt that the service station here in Udaipur is not changing the oil or just reusing the oil or something. I have completed 15k km with my bike. Any recommendation which oil is best for this giant will be appreciated.

Also if in this thread anyone has posted the pics of doing it then please post the link
      .

      Thanks.

It is recommended to replace oil in every 4000 kms and oil filter in 8000 kms but most of us are replacing both in every 2000-2500 kms.

To drain the oil, place the bike on side stand, put a pan under the oil drain bolt to collect old oil, remove the drain bolt with a 17 mm ring or socket spanner, remove the oil filler cap and lastly the 3 bolts on the oil filter cap. Remove the old oil filter. Tilting the bike to both sides and then keeping straight brings out more used oil.

Insert the new oil filter so that its open end goes to the engine and fit the oil filter cover. Replace the oil drain plug and tighten it. Do not over tighten any of these bolts.

Fill 1 litre of new oil through the oil filler hole. You can use a clean funnel for it, if needed. Tighten the oil filter cap. Start the engine, run it for a few minutes and stop. After 3-5 minutes, keep the bike vertical and check the oil level which should be between the “L” and “F” marks of the oil level indicating window. Add some more oil if necessary so that the level is between the L and F marks.

The oil recommended by Suzuki is 20W-40 mineral. After the first oil changing to the last one done yesterday I am filling Castrol Power 1 15W-40 SS oil which costs Rs. 350/- per litre. Some oil experts are of the opinion that Castrol oil – even if manufactured in their factory – is fake. My experience is different and hence I am it.

You can fill any xxW-40 mineral, SS or FS oil.

First of all thank you for replying pal. If I only wish to change the oil and not oil filter, then am I only required to remove the drain bolt and the filler cap????

Yes. That is enough. But most of us are replacing the oil filter with the oil. Its available at the SC and the price is about Rs.43/-.

It is easy. Remove the three bolts with an 8 mm “T” spanner, take out the old filter, clean the oil left there, insert new filter as shown in the picture, replace the cover and tighten the bolts.

                  Hi,

This is my first post here.

I got a new GS 150 after riding my dad's 1981 Bullet for 10 years. I am happy with the bike, it is a good machine. Have clocked 700 Kms so far.

Couple of days back the electric starter stopped working, the digital console doesn't come alive either. I have to kick start the bike and then it works fine. But when i switch the headlight or the pilot lights on the bike stops. The horn and indicators are working fine.

I think the battery must have been drained. But i don't see any reason why or how as i have been continuously riding it since the day i got it.

Now i am unsure if the battery is the problem or if there is something wrong with the wiring.

If it is the battery then how many hours should i charge it for? The bullet's battery used to take 8 hours. Or should i just replace the battery?

It will be great If you or anyone else on this thread can shed some light on this.

                  Many Thanks!

From what you have mentioned, there should be something wrong or short with the right hand side switchgear. Everything on the left seems to be working fine.... like horn and indicators.

First of all get the battery recharged at the SC. Most of the batteries are not fully charged when fitted on the bike and we are not riding the bike long enough to get it fully charged.

Even if the battery is discharged, the horn and indicator woks when the engine is running.

Recharging the battery will probably solve the problems. It takes almost 8 hours to recharge it.

                          @ Abishek,
I am sorry mate. I was wrong. I did not go through the post completely. Punarvasu sir is right. It should be down to a drained battery or it could be to do with a loose connection if I am not wrong. Please have that checked. Next steps if this does not resolve the issue.

                            Hi guys,

Background : A couple of days back; I managed to replace the stock Zappers (both front and rear). The stock tires were not a big issue in the city, but they were noticeably lacked adequate grip on windy and wet highways. I can memorize at least 10 incidences where the rear wheel was drifting on the left hand side on the straight road. Anyway...

So even though those were around 13-K kims old, I finally replaced those by
CEAT (Verticle tread) Secura F85 2.75-18 42P (i.e. front) and
                            Michelin Sirac Street 100/90- 18 56P (i.e. Rear).

Needless to say, I didn't go for the fatter tires, but only went for superior hold on the road and retaining the specification.

                            Observations/Outputs:
Well it has been just over 48 hours after the new fitment and I've tested it for like 25 kms. The observations are

                            1. The bike is definitely feeling stickier and heavier and I am feeling more confident on curves, corners, wet slopes and on muddy and sandy roads. I am happy.
                            2.
However, specifically at the point of 39 km/hr I can feel the vibrations in the handlebar. It goes off once I speed up to 41-42. Incidentally, I can again feel the vibrations at precisely 39 Km/hr even when I am slowing down.
                            3. I'v checked the disk assembly, overall fitment asse. and checked the overall movement in the tires. Everything is flawless.

                            Questions/doubt:
                            1. Is this a sign of excessive grip?
                            2. Theoretically is 39 kms/hr is a threshold for grip? I honestly can't get it through theoretically.
                            3. Is there any explanation for this through principles of friction or inertia?

                            Thanks!

                            Looking for your comments.

For those who clean their bikes non O-ring chain:

It is 33,300 kms old, going through the 4th monsoon now. Never ever cleaned but regularly lubricated with Castrol lithium based grease and EP 140 oil.

Most of GS feels harsh around 3500 rpm. check if that's the place when you feel this vibrations ?

I don't have any other clue apart from this..
