Background : A couple of days back; I managed to replace the stock Zappers (both front and rear). The stock tires were not a big issue in the city, but they were noticeably lacked adequate grip on windy and wet highways. I can memorize at least 10 incidences where the rear wheel was drifting on the left hand side on the straight road. Anyway...

So even though those were around 13-K kims old, I finally replaced those by
CEAT (Verticle tread) Secura F85 2.75-18 42P (i.e. front) and
    Michelin Sirac Street 100/90- 18 56P (i.e. Rear).

Needless to say, I didn't go for the fatter tires, but only went for superior hold on the road and retaining the specification.

    Observations/Outputs:
Well it has been just over 48 hours after the new fitment and I've tested it for like 25 kms. The observations are

    1. The bike is definitely feeling stickier and heavier and I am feeling more confident on curves, corners, wet slopes and on muddy and sandy roads. I am happy.
    2.
However, specifically at the point of 39 km/hr I can feel the vibrations in the handlebar. It goes off once I speed up to 41-42. Incidentally, I can again feel the vibrations at precisely 39 Km/hr even when I am slowing down.
    3. I'v checked the disk assembly, overall fitment asse. and checked the overall movement in the tires. Everything is flawless.

    Questions/doubt:
    1. Is this a sign of excessive grip?
    2. Theoretically is 39 kms/hr is a threshold for grip? I honestly can't get it through theoretically.
    3. Is there any explanation for this through principles of friction or inertia?

    Thanks!

    Looking for your comments.

I too have a bit of shaking between 50 to 60 kmph. Before a couple of services, it used to be between 40 to 50 kmph. On stock tyres. Seems to be the nature of gs.

To be doubly sure you may have he tyres removed and refitted.

Completed 33,500 kms today. I know it is not accurate but a reserve to reserve mileage checking shown 1625 kms for 22.72 litres i.e. 58.62 kml. Considering the bumper to bumper town rides and frequent short trips of 4-5 kms, it seems to be acceptable though much lesser than the test ride result.

After a long research, finally decided to buy this wonderful and value for money machine. Received a quotation from Jain Suzuki, Pallavaram, Chennai for Rs 77,800. I am going to buy this machine by coming week. Surely share the photos once I get this beast. Bit confusion between black and white color. Looking G(eniu)S in White color is a really amazing. Also I have a feel that white color will fade more quickly than black color. Please share your views.

Last week took a test drive and the felt excellent about this machine except the gear shift. Feels hard to shift the gear. Expect this, bike gave me a pleasant experience. May be due to newer machine the gear shift is harder. Suppose to be to smooth once getting used/serviced. Please let me know whether there is any such issue in this bike.

Let me know what are all the check-list where I can checked at the time of delivery?

Also I inquired to a local spare parts shop for GS spares and he replied that I need to contact Suzuki service centre for that? is it true? For even a small spare parts like Air filter and engine shield.. we need to contact SVC? Any Chennai owners in the list, please share your experience on the spares..

        Thanks
        Ashok

What you said about this bike is true. It really is a wonderful, trouble free bike underestimated and unnoticed by most of the bikers. A few did buy it and almost all of them are completely satisfied.

Check the following while you buy the bike:

          1. Odometer reading to ensure that the bike is not used for test rides.

          2. Check for any scratches or dents. If there is any scratch or dent and the dealer promises to replace it later, be sure that he will keep his words.

          3. Ensure that the tires are fitted correctly i.e. the tires rotate in the correct direction.

          4. Check all the panels to see whether those are properly fitted.

          5. Check the battery voltage. The batteries at the show room are not always fully charged and it leads to other difficulties. A fully charged battery shows 12.6/12.7 volts.

          6. Be sure that the handle bar moves freely.

          7. Check the oil level.

          8. Ensure that all the switches and bulbs are functioning in the right way.

          9. Check the idling rpm which should be between 1300-1400 when the engine is warm.

All the colors fade if exposed to sun light or rain water. Black fades faster than other colors. Whatever color you select, try to not expose it to direct sun light and rain water.

The dealers are offering “Teflon coating” for new bikes. Teflon is not used for this but it is good waxing with buffing machine. Get it done if offered by the dealer.

Buy a good carnauba wax such as ARMOR ALL, MOTHERS, TURTLE, MEGUIARS etc. Collinite 845 is heard to be much better than these. Buy a good car shampoo too and wash and wax the bike regularly to keep it shining.
It is true that the spare parts of GS are not available outside.

Try to be in good relationship with the workshop manager and at least one mechanic at the SC. And, lastly, never allow any of the “carburettor tuning experts” having post graduate degree in carb tuning or the mechanics to alter the carburettor settings.

Go through the user’s manual and ride happily. Yours is the best and trouble free 150 cc bike in our market.

            Hi Punarvasu,

Thanks for your check list points. Its really useful for new bike owners. I am really happy to see a active thread for this beautiful machine. Today the whole day I spent reading the most of the comments in this thread, including your accident message.

Take care while driving, at the end of the day OUR LIFE is more PRECIOUS than any thing else.

My only concern is the spare parts availablilty in the Showroom/Sales & servic centre.

I think you have crossed 33K in your machine. Have you found any difficulty in getting spare parts from show room?

Because currently I am having HH Splendor and it is 15 year old and due to its age and comfort, I am planning to upgrade to 150 CC. For almost past 1year, I did my review over various bike. Because once I purchased I wont sell it for atleast for 10 years. Thats why I wont care about the GS resale value. In my opinion GS resale value is not good. Dont care about it.

Come back to spares, for splendor, I am mostly buy genuine Hero parts from open market and in some time I bought it from the Hero Service centre. I am ok with buying spare parts from Service centre. I am concerned about if specific spares are not available in the nearest showroom. we have to wait for some more days to buy it from SVC.

Did you ever experienced of non availability of any spares?

Thanks Punarvasu and other active members for making this thread active.

            Regards,
            Ashok.

The parts I have replaced are very few except those replaced due to accident. The other part I need regularly is the oil filter. It is always available at the SC. Another one I replace in every 8000-1000 kms is the air cleaner. This too is readily available.

The brake fluid drain bolt and chain cover bolts were not available earlier. These are rarely replaced parts and were not stocked. But these too are available now and, perhaps, I may be the only customer asked for it.

The clutch and accelerator cables, chain, sprockets etc. and the bulbs except headlight bulb are the stock ones. Never needed any replacement of engine or gear box parts. The brake shoes, pads, clutch and brake levers etc. were in stock when I needed.

I cannot say how the other SCs are but here almost all the spare parts are freely available. And frequent replacement of parts is not needed for GS if maintained well and unnecessary foolish alterations for supposed improvement in torque and power are avoided.

(Going through the other ownership threads you can see how an excellent bike is killed for higher speed, more torque and more power. It already is capable of going about 125 kmh speed but some are trying to make it fly at 175 kmh speed. The money spent to buy it was not hard earned; I guess).

                Hi Ashok,

Punarvasu has covered most of the points out of his experience and knowledge.

Out of my experience, I can list down a few more

                1. Check for scratches on the rear panel and the side panel. This is more visible in black than in white.
                2. Check for the year of manufacturing. The 2013 model has minimal stickers. Some of the dealers still stock the older bikes and would like to sell it off to an unsuspecting customer.

Observation: The bike would be very harsh and jittery in the first few months. Reserve your comments for after 3000 kms.
Due to the rigorous service schedule for GS, the bikes are generally well maintained and require less part replacement.

Please follow the service schedule rigorously.
                Regards,
                Venky

Thanks Venkan.. The servicing is also due, so I'll make sure to talk with the SC manager about it. I will do that. Hope SC will not say Suzuki recommends only Zappers.

Actually, having vibrations at the speed of precisely 39km/hr was so mind blowing and puzzling that my eyes had been glued to the speedo
and so, never noticed the engine RPM .

By the way an additional information - On Saturday I took the testing further and around 85 kms/hr. At the highest speed I had absolutely no issues; but at the speed of around 76-79, I again felt vibrations. If you notice this new range is exactly double the speed (39 kms/hr) where I felt the vibrations.

P.S. - I can now describe the vibration- imagine your hands 'feeling the rotations of front wheel in your palms like a faint tingling sensation'.

                    Hi Ashok,
Don't worry about the gear shifts, if the clutch is adjusted properly the gears will be smooth.
Color- like you said white looks cool on this bike, but I preferred Orange.
Price- Ok. Try to negotiate, and get some freebies for this price.
Spare parts- since you are in Chennai, it shouldn't be a problem. There are many dealers and 2S facilities(Spare parts) within Chennai. You can get the list from Suzuki Motorcycle Agency / Two Wheeler Dealers India - Suzuki Dealers in Delhi /All States | Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt. Ltd.

I have asked for special offers. They convinced me that they will offer me below accessories for free of cost.

                        2. Hand Gripper

                        4. Number Plate stickering
                        5. Fitting Charges.

I have calculated the prices for the above. Total offered accessories comes around Rs. 985.

I am planning to ask Teflon Coating (Rs. 350) in addition to above freebies. Lets hope, dealer will accept. Please let me know whether this is worth?

We are misunderstanding Teflon coating as coating with Teflon i.e. Polytetrafluoeroethylene (PTFE). This polish is imported, costly, contains no Teflon and, normally, is not available to the public.

As you like to keep the bike glossy, get it Teflon coated even if it is not free. Then buy ARMOR ALL wash and wax shampoo and their WAX & POLISH. A better polish is Collinite 845; it is heard. And strictly avoid the wood/leather/shoe/metal/stone/mud/ any surface miraculous all in all Indian waxes promoted here by some other bikers.

Continuing servicing at every 2000 kms is one of the conditions of extended warranty and hence it is not profitable, even if provided by any dealer. Don’t be scared about the availability of spare parts. At least the parts are not replaced frequently.

If he is so sure about it, let him fill it in his bike or, even, car.

A 20W-50 oil does not thin more than a 50 weight oil at 100 degree C – the maximum temperature when the engine is operating even at Pilani, Rajasthan - and its resistance to flow is more than a 40 weight oil and hence does not reach the points easily where a protective layer of oil is needed to prevent wearing of parts, which is one of the important functions of engine oil.

So, try get it replaced with 20W-40. And, why cannot use SS oils like Castrol Power 1, 15W-40?

Thanks Purarvasu. I will try with dealer mentioned "Teflon coated" at the time of delivery. After that I will polish with Collinite 845 if needed. Also some of my relatives are using Amway product to wash their bike and cars. I dont know the exact name of that Amway Product.
