Re: Suzuki GS150R
Leave it yaar... I will go for new one... I never purchased a second hand in my entire life i am at 30. This will be my 9th bikeOriginally posted by thedreamer09 View PostBro, as others mentioned check out why he is selling the bike. He has ridden only 1800kms in almost a year. Also this is old model by looking at the sticker. The on road price in Chennai is between 76.5k to 78.5k depending on how you bargain. For me it looks like a good deal, since you are getting for less than 20k. But remember you will become the second owner of the bike and in case if you wish to sell it you will get less amount. So go for it, if you want to keep the bike for longer period. If its your first bike, I would suggest you to go for a new bike
For question one- Check out the service Manual.
For question two- No idea. Go through OLX might be you can get an idea.

Re: Suzuki GS150R
Check why he is selling the bike ? what he is asking is only 57000... which is really less for a bike which has just 1800 kms on odo and 1 year old... if possible, try to get the details of bike ( whether it met some accident or any engine issues.. like that )Originally posted by jammbuster View PostAll bros here need your advice,
I saw one bike from OLX.com , a person is selling his GS150r which is hardly 1800 kms completed , year of purchasing is 2012, white color
1) How to check , whether he maintain this bike in proper running period.
2) what will be the price i would ask for - he is asking for 57000rs.
Paper and documents all any other thing please advice .
better get a new one if its your first bike...

Review - 4th Service done and 4444 kilometers clocked.
4444 kilometres so far and here it is..
Good
- The initial hard gear shift is now smooth(Run-in period took care of it)!
- GS150R is an all round smooth performer!
- Great pulling power right from 1st to 6th gear(even with a Pillion)!
- With the helmet on, the engine beat isn't very audible and without the helmet, it's still refined and civilised! Thank you!
- My back pained due to some of the rough roads that I had to traverse for a few days, and so a quick change in suspension settings to the 'softest' made the ride very comfortable from then on!

- I usually ride at around 35 to 50 km/h on 6th gear and it's great! Can't ride any faster(not safe), the roads are narrow and clogged with traffic!
- Speedometer clocked 103 km/h on a straight highway road with 195kgs of weight(2 astride and luggage). Been on some planned and unplanned trips with a friend!
- Engine starts easily in mornings or even after 2 weeks of no use! That's amazingly good!
- Breaking has been effective and satisfactory!
- Climbed the steep Keesaragutta Temple Hill on 2nd gear with a pillion and luggage(188kgs)! Enough torque at hand and there's nothing left to say! Srisailam trip with 195kgs of weight(2 astride and luggage), great climb and descent on ghat like roads!
Bad
- There isn't any mileage checking mechanism available at the service centres like having one of those 100ml drip bottles!?
Bad as I still don't know my GS's correct mileage! And that 'Reserve to Reserve' method is useless as I found out one fine evening when I sat down to drain the fuel tank(till reserve) to the extent that the engine stopped(lots of draining and checking). I filled up a bit more fuel again and shook around the bike like it were a moped, allowing the fuel to evenly settle down around the tank. And then had the engine run till it stopped. Proceeded to fill half a litre of fuel and went out on a trip happily with a smiling face! Exactly half a kilometre on, the engine dies(on a descending road) and I had to continue with the reserve! Wondering about a home made drip bottle for checking the fuel economy.
- I've had a first hand taste of delay in parts(accessories) being supplied and I now know that it can take anything from 15 to 25 to indefinite days! This is the only sad and bad thing that especially sticks out in my mind(Suzuki is slow and sleeping!)! This is in Hyderabad city!
- Headlight is abysmal!
Rode on a highway during a dark rainy evening at 55km/h max and the headlight was of no help even after the rain stopped! Only 25% brightness of what was needed! 'Suicidal' if I have to put it in one word! Looking for extra lights if ever such a trip is to be repeated! - A wider pillion seat please and with more cushion depth(long highway trips?)!! The step up seat design perches the pillion seat high! Not nice! <-- Make this practical Suzuki!! You listening?
Don't know what!?
- Met a first generation GS owner at traffic lights who commented that the Engine note of the fourth generation was indeed different from his.

- Front disk brake continues to do the 'squeak squeak' chafing(seen on almost all bikes so far), although very low now! Thanks to the help and efforts of Saboo Suzuki's Head of Mechanics, it's not much of a bother!
- Gear shift occasionally slips around neutral! Not much of a bother though.
Would I buy any other bike if given an option after the GS experience so far? NO! Honda Unicorn, my second option, though being practical and a good competitor, is still dull, depressing and uninspiring as ever! Suzuki must continue to have at least one GS150R in its line of 2 wheelers! It's a complete package that has suffered under Suzuki's inefficient marketing and step-motherly treatment!! I'm glad to see their recent advertising initiatives and strongly believe in their market approach with the GS150R! So if they make a good chain of nationwide service centres, keep their bikes practical, technologically sound, smooth, tough, and priced sweetly, they'll have loyal fans everywhere!Last edited by trailwright; 09-09-2013, 01:53 AM.

Re: Review - 4th Service done and 4444 kilometers clocked.
1. Reserve to reserve or full tank to full tank methods never shows accurate mileage. If the jar used for it is not available at the SC, you can buy one from the two wheeler accessories shops or can use a plastic saline glucose bottle to check mileage. Fill 300 ml or so fuel in it and connect it to dry carburettor through a piece of flexible pipe.Originally posted by trailwright View Post4444 kilometres so far...
2. All the parts – especially which are not frequently replaced - of any bike may not be always readily available. See how the Pulsar 200NS owners complain about the non-availability of spare parts now.
3. My bike is full DC with 55/60 watts Osram NB but the light is poor while going through highways or towns with street light. This is not the case of GS alone but of almost all the two wheelers and is mainly because of the designing of the headlight bulb and reflector for asymmetric beam as per the ECE regulations. Though India is not a party in this agreement, Japan is from 2012. That is why Suzuki Fiero, manufactured before 2012 gives a sharp, pointing light if the bulb is replaced with an ordinary 35/35 watts halogen bulb.
Try to lower the beam to a comfortable level and use high and low beams as per the situation.
4. A wider pillion seat makes placing foot on floor more worse. By the way, which 150 or higher cc bike is having a more comfortable pillion?
At least, in case of an accident, designing of GS’s pillion enables the pillion rider to roll over the rider and land on his nose with a broken leg as my pillion rider did a few months ago. When my bike skidded on gravel road, my companion rolled over me and landed with a broken leg.
And still some of us are blaming GS for the sake of blaming.Originally posted by trailwright View PostWould I buy any other bike if given an option after the GS experience so far? NO!

And so I wondered about the Saline drip earlier.
Thanks for confirming it Punnu!
Did I buy a Pulsar 200NS.. O wait a minute, I didn't!
So am I to to ask Bajaj about why it takes 25+ days or an indefinite period for some small Suzuki GS150R part to be shipped from Delhi to Hyderabad and that too by DHL Courier?? No! Who's sleeping then? Suzuki is? So Suzuki needs to wake up!! Yes it DOES!

Again, I bought the Suzuki GS150R because it has a part 'highway bike' reputation and I expected some light on the road, not the risk of highway accident!! Lol.. Safety somehow overcomes my passion for regulatory orders.
There are 2 beams and I couldn't find the third 'comfortable' beam and therefore extra lights are a must for any such future trips.
Guess I found the LED additions.
Ammm.. a seat wider by at least 2 inches and not a full fledged Honda Goldwing pillion armchair? And no, the knees fold further ahead than the sitting area(the sides in the GS are already wide near the seating and narrow down ahead) so 'it is indeed possible'. XD Ohh I see, rolling over the rider, the pillion always initiates a nose centric take off and always lands with a broken leg? Geez.. Suzuki should have included the 'nose and broken leg' ejection part in their brochure. Very bad Suzuki!
"And still some of us are blaming GS for the sake of blaming."
What's bad and needs improvement will always be commented about by the customer, irrespective of how a certain someone/company representatives/company feels about it!
There is no headmastership or dictation allowed on a customer's opinion, at least in a democracy. And that's the way it is.. Period!
We'd all want GS150R to constantly evolve into a better machine and see its flowering growth for decades ahead. Wouldn't we now?

Correct. We have the right to do so. Let that “certain someone/ company representatives/company” feel whatever they like. Who cares?Originally posted by trailwright View PostWhat's bad and needs improvement will always be commented about by the customer, irrespective of how a certain someone/company representatives/company feels about it! A democracy is the cra(z)cy(iness) allowing us to do or say whatever we like with malice towards one and all. My only complaint about this cra(z)cy(iness) is that, in it, everyone is created equal but some or a few are treated as more equal.
By the way, why didn’t you notice this discomfort of pillion while test riding the bike? Or did the dealer give you a bike with a different seat for test riding?
If you can, verify when that dealer actually placed their order for the spare part you are mentioning. Ask them to show you the copy of the mail/order they sent to Suzuki. Then approach another dealer to get that spare part you needs as no dealer gets the spare parts they have not ordered for at all.
Let us hope Suzuki makes all the changes in GS as per your needs. I am sure they will do it.Last edited by punarvasu; 09-09-2013, 10:33 PM.

Re: Review - 4th Service done and 4444 kilometers clocked.
In my prrsonal opinion, for suzuki customer is not the king. it is my personal experience and will stand by it.
The gs does roll out of the mill with a lot of defects. The quality checks are abysmal and the service is not upto the standard.
This is not how other manufacturers deliver their bikes.
I am saying this while I own the bike, enjoy it and intend to own the bike for a lot more years to come but that would not erase the bad experience during the srart of my ownership.
I owned a tvs bike without hassles for 8 years but cant say the same about others. I cannot contradict their experience. Same applies to this forum.

Hi Gang!
My GS completed dot 7500 kms today (have not driven much) - left it for service (7th paid/340 days) in JAV Adyar and got it back in the afternoon. I was experiencing hard shifts for the last couple of weeks which was rectified by a simple clutch re-adjustment. This is my first "new bike" and the ownership
experience was a bit of a roller coaster and filled with lot of emotions (from euphoria riding in heaviest of chennai rains to almost getting a nervous breakdown with the clutch cable snapping at 5000 kms). Both of us are settled now. The more gentle I am, the more willing is my GS - be it "click-like" gear shifts or good mileage. Plus, the SC people are more familiar to me now and extend many simple courtesies. So far so good - Let me see how it goes.
A few things are pending:
1. DIY Oil change - Going for a SS, have not decided the brand. The previous Shell AX-7 was good (to be frank, I didnt find any difference between Servo 20W-40 and Shell AX7. Also I didn't believe a hard shift problem be recified by changing the oil - so was waiting for this service).
2. Is engine flush like Nulon necessary - have any one used it ?
3. Chain lubrication - Which one shall I go for EP90 or EP140 gear oil. Should I mix a lithium based grease along with the gear oil? What do you guys use to clean the chain - kerosene or chain cleaner like Motul?
regards,
Ashwanth
P.S. Vote cast for Hoodibaba.Last edited by ashwanth.r; 09-10-2013, 04:59 PM.

Re: Suzuki GS150R
Do not lube the clutch cable with oil or grease as our cable is covered by a Teflon sleeve. The main reason for early breakage of clutch cable is lubricating it. Apply a little grease at the clutch lever bolder and it is enough. My bike’s clutch and accelerator cables are 34,260 kms old now.Originally posted by ashwanth.r View PostMy GS completed dot 7500 kms today (have not driven much) - left it for service.
SS oil is the blend of mineral and synthetic oil in the proportion of 15:85 or 20:80 and lasts a little more than mineral oil. Shell AX7 is 10W-40 SS oil. You can fill it or use any other xxW-40 oil.
Engine flushing mainly is to remove the sludge formed in the engine. Your bike is new and need not be flushed. Remember that a portion of the 0W Nulon oil, petrol, kerosene or diesel used to flush remains in the engine and mixes with the oil you fill and changes its properties.
I was lubricating the stock chain with EP 140 oil and lithium based grease and it lasted for 34,000 kms and replaced a few days ago. It was never cleaned.
Now I am planning to lube the new chain with used or fresh engine oil and ordinary grease. Lube the chain frequently – especially after washing the bike with detergents – with whatever oil or grease you like.
Ours is non O ring, fully covered chain and the price is Rs. 855/- now. Whatever we spend for chain cleaning is a waste. Instead of it, always keep the sprockets properly aligned. For it, learn how to adjust chain slackness and align sprockets yourself.
34,000 kms old rear sprocket when I replaced it.
