Well, I was baffled by the clunky gear shifts after I purchased the bike. A very noticeable clunk of a gear falling into its place and it wasn't a natural subconscious effort as it is with your well ridden bikes. However, I was explained to by the Service Centre that it would remain so till the first few services and more so depending on the miles covered. From what I have experienced, the clunky gear shift faded away slowly with every hundred miles and it's very smooth now after the 4th service. I've known people who stomp on their gears in anger but it only takes the gearbox in the wrong direction of 'run-in'. Apart from that, I've read and heard from people owning various bikes that an overheated system results in a hard to an almost impossible gear shift and they had to wait for few minutes to start again(long tourers in harsh conditions). So, almost all GS out of showrooms have some degree of hard gear shifts(Not hard but clunky!) and it's nothing really to worry about. Do read your manual buddy as it explains the run-in period. :-)

Re: Suzuki GS150R
I should say that the gear shift has been smooth by new gs standars. I get paranoid if something is not smooth on the vehicle, applies to my other hike and car.Originally posted by SriKi.GSpian View Posthey mates, is anyone facing the hard gear shifts problem in the 2012/2013 model? have you faced the problem? share your experience and how did the problem get solved!
am considering getting a GS but am worried about this issue!
P.S this is the only issue am worried about in getting the GS.
GS is a GEM of a bike!! #Respect
Keep the chain lubricated and tightened and this should not affect u much.
Just for easy understanding, I am able to go to neutral from 1st or 2nd gear very peecisely in a single shift.
As mentioned by trailwright, you will notice a very heavy double click when u shoft gears.

I own a 2012 model GS, For me, the gear shifts are really smooth. After every service, i feel like the shifts are much more smooth. But it just goes back to the normal easiness after this 2-3 days.
Theoretically all these may be true.. but practically false. everybody (the owners) knows that a GS cannot win a drag race with apache.. not even a chance if we include the 150cc r15 and cbr in the race.Originally posted by punarvasu View PostI don’t know how you reached the conclusion about the pickup of Apache and Pulsar. I think there is a small mistake in it. Both these bikes are 5 geared. Yet the torque at rear sprocket and hence the pickup of Pulsar is pathetic than GS by about 4 to 17% and of Apache 160 by about 3 to 13% in 1st to 5th gears.
Pulsar reaches 80, Apache 160 reaches 74 and GS reaches 83 kmh at 6000 RPM in final gear.
Still GS is underestimated even by its owners.
some time back on a sunday early morning, i was waiting at a signal and the guy next to me had a cbr150.. it was early morning and the roads were almost deserted. I changed the mode to "PWR" and once the signal was green, we both were riding as in a drag. I reached till 112 and i didnt had any chance to win over the cbr at any poing of time.
it wasnt a planned race or anything.. and i didnt even knew the guy who was riding the cbr. but i just wished, if our GS could win over a CBR

Congrats MSN1.. Happy Riding..Originally posted by MSN1 View Post

Dear all, I just have a doubt... when you are riding at around 6K rpm, i have a strange feeling that the gear lever is vibrating much and i can feel the vibrations in my shoes.. is it common or uncommon? or is it that i havent noticed it earlier and is that why i am getting this thought now?Last edited by nikhil.krishnan; 09-23-2013, 01:54 PM.

Re: Suzuki GS150R
Loosen the bolt with 14 mm socket spanner and its lever. Use a 1 or 1.5 foot piece of suitable steel pipe for more torque, if necessary. Use another 14 mm spanner to prevent the nut rotating with the bolt.Originally posted by venkan12 View PostI tried opening the bolt but was not able to do it by hand.
Ordinary rubber washers there melt due to heat from exhaust pipe. That is why rubber washers are not used there. A hard rubber compound washer may be helpful. Try to find out one at spare parts shop.
Ask the workshop manager to tighten the engine mounting bolts, axle nuts, swing arm bolt and other nuts and bolts in correct torque. This itself eliminates the slight vibration at 3.5 K RPM.
Check the condition of the tires. For your bike, a wheel balancing is urgently needed. Check the chain for tight links which results chain whipping and vibration.
R15 has better torque and slightly better speed.Originally posted by nikhil.krishnan View Postnot even a chance if we include the 150cc r15

Re: Suzuki GS150R
I don’t know why your bike’s gear lever vibrates at 6,000 RPM and how to get rid of it as I haven’t felt any vibration on my GS until today. There is a tingling around 3,500 RPM but, as far as I know or as per my experience, GS is vibration free. That together with the straight riding stance makes it most comfortable for long trips, even at high speeds. And vibration and tingling is different.Originally posted by nikhil.krishnan View Postany suggestion on the vibration issue which am feeling on the gear lever?

Nikhil, I am trying hard to find vibration in the gear lever but couldnt find any. Honestly, I beleive you must be wearing a thin sole shoe or you can check the gear shift leaver screws.Originally posted by nikhil.krishnan View Postmaybe... what i meant is the theoretical proofs arent good enough unless the bike performs the same way....

Re: Suzuki GS150R
Bought GS150R with paycheck from my first job. 17 months, 21000 kms and frequent weekend trips later I must say this is the most refined mile munching machine
Got 48kmpl on my last Bangalore-Jog Falls trip with constant cruising in upper 80's kmph. According to my experience, using Shell Engine Oil (AX5) seems to result in smooth running and smoother gear shifts. Planning on Blore-Hampi-Pattadakal trip between Sep 29-Oct 2. Being 6' tall, the standard riding posture is a bit cramped for my legs and need to keep shifting on my seat during long rides. But still, for tall riders, the seat height and the riding comfort for long distance is the best in segment, when I compared with pulsar 150 or FZ.
Mods:
Installed LED projector lamps but they dont have a sharp focus since they are fog lamps. I'm working on a mod to alter the projector lens housing and get a better riding beam.
Verdict:
An accomplished commu-tourer indeed. A good bike to do worry-free commutes and road trips.Last edited by Swami O.H. Gere; 09-25-2013, 06:47 PM.

Re: Suzuki GS150R
Hi all ! Lubricated the chain yesterday with a chain lube (the spray type I bought long long ago), however am planning to
switch to Axle oil 140 + grease combo once I finish off this can. Have a few questions:
Can I remove the chain cover permanently if I regularly (once in 1-2 weeks when I wash the bike) lube the chain ? or is it
recommended to keep them on for non o-ring chains?
The bike runs on 20W-40 now. For the past couple of weeks, shifting from 1>N>2 gear is slightly clunky but effortless.
But using the toe-only shift for 2>3>4>5>6 is harder/notchy, sometimes almost impossible - I have to leave the clutch out
and try again. If I use the heel part of the shift lever I can shift more easily (I don't have to stand on it or force it in
gear).
Does tight/loose-ness of the chain affect gear shift?
If I "pre-load" the shift lever, shifts are more easy - Do any of you practice this?
My GS belongs to the 2012 batch - for the time being am assuming the clutch release bearing isn't faulty.
More help needed:
Also, I read somewhere racing a cold engine isn't good for its life - Does one have to warm up engine using choke (or) is
it ok to warm it riding a few kms in low RPM and then gradually hit higher RPMS once idle speed stabilizes around 1400-
1500?
Do you guys ritually turn the fuel valve to OFF position when parking overnight - Am a ex-scooter fellow and never did
that on my scooter. Our manual mentions the possibility of fuel overflow into the engine if left in ON/RES for extended
periods.
Thanks!

Re: Suzuki GS150R
Start the bike, let it idle, wear your helmet, say ur prayers and ride he bike. This much of idle has been suff for me over many ears with diff bikes. The first few kms of he day, be gentle on the bike.Originally posted by ashwanth.r View PostHi all ! It is better to habitually turn off the fuel tap. I turn it off every time I take the key out. Thats how I habituated, when I stop he bike, I do 4 checks, bring it to neutral, turn off lights, handle lock and remove key and tap turned off.

Hi Venkan, I'd a spare washer & necessary tools at home..With that I did it by myself.. Any washer kind of rubber piece of 3mm thickness will be suffice for this job...Originally posted by venkan12 View PostHi Magesh/ Vikshe,

Are there any particular specifications on what kind of rubber washer I need to buy.
What about the White horse you own already... Still want to add one more to the Garage?Originally posted by SriKi.GSpian View PostP.S this is the only issue am worried about in getting the GS.

Got my tool-set back from native. Pic of my front sprocket:
Is it worn off too much? Will tighten chain slackness & test tomorrow.
Also planning to put in Fully-Synthetic Engine Oil next time; preferably a 10w-40 grade one. 16.5k on the ODO.
Can we fit 2013 model's cowl & side panels on 2010 make? How's white cowl & panels look on blue original?
Another look at 2013 GS150R:
