In Goa, Petrol prices are the cheapest compared to other states in India. It is actually a few paise below Rs60. Diesel was costlier than petrol here just a few months back. Now both prices going close enough

I have came to your state many times – the last being in August this year - to visit my relative then studying at BITS Pilani, Goa campus but was not aware that petrol is so cheap there.

Now a days i am facing a strange problem with my bike. Whenever i use the electric starter it starts and switches off immediately. Then i have to start it again and give it some race. Also many time while driving when i slow down on some speed breaker it stops automatically. Can anyone tell me what is the problem.

        Thanks in advance.

No wonder you see a lot of petrol cars running as taxis in goa.

Think its to do with idling. What are the avg temperatures in ur city when u start the engine in the morning. U must be facing this problem now coz winter is setting in. Try setting the idle rpm a bit higher.

It is oct heat in our side. No signs of cold around. The idle is set at 1.8. But still when i move it to second gear it shoots to around little more than 2k.

Taxis running on petrol yes true. But there is a unique taxi service which is only in Goa as far as i know. Motorcycle pilots i.e. Two wheeler taxis.

Send some petrol? At every national highway going out of Goa there are customs duty officers. They check each and every bag in the travellers busses, cars, even loaded goods carrier trucks at times to check smuggling of two things. Petrol and liquor.

Was just kidding yes I have seen those and on an earlier trip I hired a motorcycle for 3 days and roamed around goa.

If every state slashes the vat, we might even get petrol at that rate.
There is Boda boda (motorcycle taxi) in Africa as well

Clean the carburettor plug, adjust its gap and clean or replace the air filter. This will probably solve the problem.
The idle speed of 1800 RPM is too high. 1300-1400 is normal and enough.

Hired motorcycles are other thing. What I mentioned was motorcycle taxis i.e the motorcycle pilot(rider) carries a passenger with him similar to autorickshaw. About petrol price yes they reduced VAT but they are gathering that lost income from other sources for eg. road tax for every vehicle entering the state, govt. forms, taxes on other products of daily necessity etc.

BTW this lugging problem is getting too much. Very difficult to drive in cities when engine constantly goes off. There is a tik tik sound(not engine cooling sound) when the engine feels lugging and when it goes off. One friend of mine said "spark leaking" which i had never heard ever before. Any inputs from anyone here?

I believe the yellow board with black font is the taxi and the black board with yellow font is the hired self ridden/driven vehicle.

But I also beleive I am talking something very very vague to this thread.

So just of curiosity i measured the speeds in each gear at 2500rpm. May be helpful for any newbies here like me though one
should know by engine sound when to shiftdown
                            Gear-Speed(kph)(+-1)
                            6-36
                            5-31
                            4-27
                            3-23
                            2-16
                            1-10
This means, do not ride in 6th if speed below 36, 5th if below 31 and so on. Doesnt apply for 1st gear obviously
I don't remember reading about the 2500 rpm thing (have they updated the manual?). Not only engine sound, a lot of things
like how strong it pulls, etc will tell us about the need to downshift. Choose the gears as per need - I can usually climb
a flyover in 6th, but with a pillon the same flyover might be less-stressfully climbed at 4th/5th (that too is not
necessary if the start of the gradient is "attacked" with good speed). I personally found/find it difficult to remember
speeds (I think Bajaj and RE still recommend maximum speed in each gear during running-in) - so I just watched the
tachometer and kept myself a range (3-4.5k rpm).

If the engine runs closely to/runs below 1000 rpm, auto-decompression mechanism thinks you are starting the engine, kicks in and unintentionally switches it off. So first warm a cold engine as explained in the manual - this will not warm the engine so that idle speed straight away jumps to 1500. So when waiting at signals, keep the throttle very very slightly opened if required. Once you drive 8-10 kms, the idle speed should have stabilized at the set value. To set idle speed, drive 7-8 kms, bring the unit to neutral and adjust the idle speed adjustment screw so the tachometer needle is now at 1500 or slightly less. You friend was right, if the auto-decompressor operates, all that spark and explosion "leaks" via the now open exhaust valve .

Venky, happy to know front wheel wobbling is history!

Thanks Ashwanth. That leaves me with only one issue now. The jerky ride. I always feel that there is something stopping the bike orthe fuel is about to get over. This feeling is getting worse by the day and the jerks are more pronounced.

Suzuki has confirmed that it is not misfiring but no one knows what it is. I am doubting that it is the brake binding but punarvasu says it ahudnt affect the running of the bike.

                                God save the bike.
