  • Re: Suzuki GS150R

    Greetings fellow riders..

Is been a while since i posted in this thread.. Good to see active participations from new/old gspians

Was away from my bike for two months and just today dropped for servicing.. Bike has done 27k in 28 months..
    No major parts are replaced..

Just got a call from service station and they are recommending to replace both front brake pad and rear brake shoes since they are weak.. This would be the first replacement and i i feel it's time.. But the breaks felt adequate till now..
The question is the service center quoted 800 for this job alone ( parts and labor) apart from general service.. Just want to know if these prices are genuine or am i being taken for a ride!!!

One would/could do it if they're certain that it's the last time they're gonna see you. Considering the itemised bill you get, don't you think they know that you're gonna come back for clarifications in case of discrepancies.

Nevertheless, I don't know the actual prices but some items I bought like spark-plug and Access air-filter connecting tube came with labelled price. Other like oil-filter & O-ring didn't as they come in bulk.

      Just my two paise.

        Thanks for the reply
Absolutely true... I can certainly refer to the itemized bill.. Was curious to know the price if some one had any info on that.. Also i was bit surprised to see that separate labor charge will be billed ( one for generic service and one for this replacement)..

This is true since it is not a part of general service.

Guys i am going to buy this bike(White) coming 13th (auspicious dasara). This is my first bike purchase. I initially was going to buy Discover 125ST but the showroom didn't have one for test ride. So for just timepass as i did not have anyother bike on my mind i went to suzuki. Took test drive for hayate and slingshot+. The showroom guy told me to wait 10 min to TD their GS150R as at that time some other guy had gone for its TD. I had never even heard of this bike nor seen it on roads (may have seen but never noticed). I had time to spare so i waited. When i took the test ride i swear i fell in love with this bike. I have ridden friends pulsar135ls, apache160, bullet350c etc. But i never had this smoothness while riding. But still thought i wouldn't be able to go for 75k budget but as i came home and read reviews from different people it was difficult to convince myself from not buying this bike. I went for another test ride just to experience the smooth and refined feel once again. I feel so blessed for the bajaj guys not having 125st for test ride. Cant wait for 13th oct. Still long 13 days to pass to be part of this proud community.

I have one question though. Currently i have 1992 model Kinetic Honda. The area i live in has many ups and down i.e slopes and climbs. So when going down the slope i turn off the engine to save fuel. If i want to do the same on GS what is the best way to follow?? On the other bikes i mentioned above i have tried pressing the clutch fully but that keeps making some sound in wheels or gears ( i dont know where exactly) while going down slope. I also tried few times to put the bike in neutral but while doing that too i feel while shifting from higher gears to neutral at 30-40 speeds i feel some jerks and uneasy sounds in engine or gears(again i dont know where exactly). So can someone guide me about this please??

            Edit:
Just would like to share the quotation i got from Suzuki Ponda Goa
            Ex Showroom Price - 66926/-
            Road Tax & Registration - 5821/
            Insurance - 1817/
            Total - 74564/-

            Total price includes:
            Guard Set
            Seat Cover
            Number Plate
            Numbering
            Tank Cover
            Hand Grip
            Buzzer
            Suzuki Jacket
Seems to be a good quote. From my experience suzuki dealerships tends to slip in about 2k to 3k cash discounts durin be festive times particularly the later end of the year. Do feel free to ask if u havent bargained. Ask, push and threaten. It works with sales people

It is Rs. 217/- for brake pads and Rs. 275/- for brakes shoes. As the bike is 28 months old and as the mechanics said the brake is weak, a brake bleeding may be necessary now. Most of the mechanics do not do it properly. They drain the fluid, fill some fresh fluid in the reservoir, press the brake lever a few times, refit everything and return the bike with a lame excuse that the brake will take some time or some thousand kms to become effective.
Buy the brake pads and shoes, a brake bleeding nut and a spring pad clip in the calliper assembly and replace the brake fluid yourself in reverse bleeding method.
If you are still using the stock sparkplug and air cleaner, change those parts too.

                Thanks Punarvasu,

I am yet to learn servicing the bike myself and when ready will do these things myself but for now have to trust the SVC
I have asked to change sparkplug. I had changed airfilter at 15k or something. So probably will replace that at 30K.

Does anybody know what they do with test-ride bikes?

I feel I got delivered one on 13-Jan-2011; mfd-date Oct-2010. I got Slingshot toolkit as GS toolkit was not found.

I too feel so. It was delivered in march 2013, rc says mfg in feb 2013 but it is a 2012 model bike. This has been giving me problems all the time in the 6 months. Feel like its one of those old test ride bikes.

SparKot thinks he bought the bike used for test rides at the showroom because, now, after more than 2 years and 8 months from purchasing, he remembered that the tool kit with his bike was not of GS. All the tools with the bike except the socket spanner to remove sparkplug and clamp wrench to adjust shock absorber are useless.
All the main dealers are given a separate bike for test riding. That bike is used for test riding and is not sold to any customer. Even a single part or even a single nut or washer is not sold or cannot be sold because the price cannot be accounted.
The bike used for test ride is dumped in the workshop or garage after a while and remains there as a property of Suzuki.
Some of us think the dealers are selling test ride bikes because they don’t know how the dealership functions. A dealer is a mere stockist or an agent, not the owner of any bike or spare parts in his shop. He gets commission and incentives for sales and the accounts are audited twice or thrice a year by Suzuki. Any serious malpractice results suspension or cancellation of agency.
So the bikes both SparKot and Venkan bought are not test riding bikes.

Thank you, much relieved. I didn't really care about those tools back then & even now. They're lying somewhere in tool-shed at my hometown.I was just skimming through GS150R thread(this thread) from the beginning(got plenty of time) and popping questions which crossed my mind.

That implies, every year Suzuki is dumping all test-bikes/scooters across the country. Why not sell(keeping the ODO running) them for reduced price say half rate like we do used bikes? Also, lapsed my insurance policy; was caught twice in last two years. Had to pay ₹ 500/- each time as penalty per Karnataka regulations. I didn't care as bike wasn't used much. Now that I'm back in B'luru, I better get covered. Does anybody know current premium? ₹ 1817/- as in Goa?

You may get a customized premium quote for your bike online. You may use the website of any private general insurance company, helps to have your rc or old insurance document handy

They are not giving test ride bikes every year. The dealer here in my town was given a single GS in 2008, when it was launched.
Selling the test ride bikes may be against the business ethics; I think.
Insurance premium in every state is the same; I hope. The only exception may be J&K where our Govt. has no control over anything.

Hi I Bought GS150r on 02/10/2013. My question is for two days it was fine. But today i felt that engine is producing more heat. like I rode only for 5 kms and my feet could feel the heat and i did not crossed 4000 rpm.
is it normal or any problem
