Earlier the gearbox used to sound like it had a couple of nuts and bolts thrown in, but now it's almost like the test ride vehicles although a little too notchy for my liking. But it's an improvement never the less and I have decided to keep it and see how long it is before I had to bother someone else about this problem.
    Hi Vikyath,

My gs150r is from Feb 2012 model. It suffered from hard gear shifts from day 1. I complained about this to Aryan suzuki, but they said that gear shifts will be hard in new bike and asked me to ride it. They said gear shift will smoothen by 1st service. After first service, gear shifts still remained hard. Aryan suzuki refused to acknowledge that there was a problem. Now they said wait till 2nd service. But hard gears shifts remained after second service too. Aryan suzuki did not do anything about it. Hard gear shifts was becoming worse all the time. Sometimes, bike would get stuck in a gear and refuse to change. I had to re-acclerate, ride another 20 meters, and try gear shifting again. And gear may or may not change. The problem becomes worse as the bike engine warms up.

Got my 3rd service done at Value suzuki vasanthnagar. Reported hard gear shifts at 3rd service, and again nothing was done. So, 2 days after 3rd service, i went back to Value suzuki and complained to them about hard gear shifts. Though unintentional, I complained in showroom in front of other potential new customers. They asked me to meet service head, Mr. Shamsheer. Mr. Shamsheer started the bike on center stand, changed gears, and immediately acknowledged that there is problem with gears. He asked me to leave bike and collect it next day. I got the bike next day, gear shifts were very smooth. But this lasted just 4 days and then hard gear shifts returned. I noticed that they had left the rear lock nut of the clutch adjuster completely loose.

Anyway went back to value suzuki after a week. Mr. Shamsheer was on leave. Anyway left the bike for repairs. This time they said it will take many days, as they might have to change parts under warranty and require approval from suzuki. Got the bike back after 1 week. This time they said they changed pressure plates. Gear shifts had improved, but were still notchy. It was not as smooth like after the first repairs. Rode it for 2 days and then on second day when i rode 16 km nonstop, the hard gear shifts returned. This time, hard gears were intermittent, but whenever it occurred, still the gear would get stuck and refuse to change. And i had to re-acclerate and try again.

Just to make sure, i rode another week with hard gears. Went to Aerolex this time and reported hard gears. Aerolex refused to take the bike for service, saying that they do not have any service history of the bike. Had a small argument with them. Then, went back to value suzuki. This time, Mr. Shamsheer was available. I left the bike for repairs again. Got the bike the next day. They said they changed clutch bearing and washer. This time gear shifts are very smooth (like first time). So far, it has been a week, and the gear shifts are still very smooth.

Please note, repairs have been carried out 3 times for hard gears. On last 2 occasions, after leaving vehicle for repairs, I reported the hard gears at suzuki feedback website. First time, I dont know what they changed, seems like they changed some small part and only did clutch adjustment and chain adjustment. Second time, they said they changed clutch pressure plates. Third time, they said they changed clutch bearing and washer. Anyway, gear shifts are smooth now.

Firstly, suzuki sold me a bike with defective clutch, resulting in hard gear shifts.
Second, suzuki dealer Aryan suzuki, refused to acknowledge the hard gear shifts problem on multiple occasions, and just asked me to ride as is.
Third, the problem got worse, but still suzuki service did not do anything during regular service. They only did waterwash and oil change during regular service.
Fourthly, on my repeated complaints, when they acknowledged the problem, they did repairs in installments.
Finally, it took 8 months and 4 services, plus 3 repairs for suzuki to acknowledge and rectify hard gear shifts problem. During this time, i have rode more than 4200 km with hard gear shifts. Hope this gear problem has not damaged any other parts.

Big thanks to Mr. Shamsheer. If not for people like him, suzuki service is really bad. But the positive thing is at least they have all parts in stock, parts are replaced under warranty, and the head office responds :-) And now, finally i am really enjoying riding the gs150r.

    • Gear shifting.

If the gear shifting is really hard, replacing the clutch bearing (part No. 09263-10020-00) may be helpful. At the same time, bore some holes on clutch sleeve hub (part No. 21411-30H20-000) too. This increases the oil flow to the clutch plate.

Surprising ! That should not be the case . Service history of any bike done at any authorised service center should be updated to suzuki's servers and available to all other suzuki service centers throughout India . Otherwise how would a person who bought a bike and then relocated to another state or city , or say traveling far, avail of service or warranty or insurance claim etc in case of a breakdown even . This dealer(Aerolex) is clearly shirking their duty . All I can say is that it's not a phenomenon restricted to suzuki dealers only .
Anyway , now that your bike is fine it's a really happy outcome and hope you keep enjoying the ride forever like this .

If customer tells suzuki service staff to bore holes in clutch sleeve hub, do you think they will listen? Not at all. Instead, they will get angry at customer.

The above quote is important information for all those facing hard gear shifting problem in gs150r. However, suzuki should give this info directly to its service engineers.

Replacing clutch bearing seems to solve the hard gear shifting problem. Also, if you ride with hard gear shifts for long time, you will likely wear out your clutch pressure plates. Then both clutch pressure plate and clutch bearing have to be replaced.

It is hard gear shifts when your hear clunk sounds with gear shifts and you need to apply a lot of force to change gears. Also, sometimes gear gets stuck in particular gear, it refuses to change, and then you have to re-acclerate, ride another 20 meters, and try gear shifting again. I have faced the hard gear shifts problem since day 1 and only in gears 1, 2, 3, and 4. Never when shifting from 5th to 6th gear or back down.

Including me, as far as i know from previous posts, bhavesh rathi, sunny187, gkamal1, vikyath, mubashirkk, fadeawayraj have all faced hard gear shifts problem. Anybody else?

If you want this problem to be solved, leave your bike for service and report it on the suzuki feedback website. Only then will the service centers take it seriously.

You are right. Thats why i had a small argument with Aerolex. I asked them if suzuki service wont repair my Gs150r, should i take it to yamaha service center? I have purchased a suzuki bike, and I can leave it for service at any suzuki service center. But suzuki service centers dont accept this. Anyway, got my bike finally fixed at value suzuki.

Also, in between all this, my brother-in-law purchased a new 150cc bike last month. Looking at the problems i faced with suzuki service, he did not even consider any suzuki bike. He finally purchased a FzS.

                  • Suzuki India tends to ignore my mails so when I leave my bike for having it serviced, I might as well try my luck in persuading the mechanics/engineers or whoever it is at apple auto that check-in the bikes for service.

Got the bike back from service today. After quite some drama at Apple, I got the concerned persons to thoroughly check the transmission assembly and finally we seem to have something to point our fingers at. It turned out to be a faulty gear hub which can be replaced under warranty. I have to go there to get it replaced again because the mechanic who had experience with this job was on leave that particular day.

The experience at Apple Auto, Banashankari was as horrible as always, the people at the service dept replaced my well maintained seat with a seat with foam projecting out and seat cover torn. To make matters worse, they had already delivered the mixed up bike to another customer so there was no way of getting my bike's seat back, on the other hand, I was assured that my bike will get the seat from the test ride bike and a new seat cover during my next visit. Also, I suspect they used some contaminated/corrosive substance other than the usual diesel to clean the bike which has left stains all over the bike and especially the grey plastics in the fenders, mirrors and the MID housing.

Really shabby service by Bangalore leading (claimed) Suzuki dealer. I advice any owner getting their bike serviced here not to hurry/ask them to deliver the bike on the same day because you could have an experience similar to mine.

                      • Hello Guys(& Gals, if any )..

Just wanted to know your views on something that I have experienced quite often with my 2012 GS..

I observe that continuous cruising at speeds greater than 100 kmph causes the Bike to shut itself off. Acceleration no longer responds.. i slow down and stop.. The bike does not start immediately. After a few minutes pass, im able to start and roll comfortably as if nothing happened.

This scared the shit out of me the first time it happened and i started reasoning with myself that maybe a 150cc cannot cope with continuous cruising speeds of more than 100 kmph. . However, recent discussions with more experienced riders that i have come into contact with yielded different reasons. They mentioned something called an Air gap which forms in the fuel tank due to Fuel getting consumed faster and air replacing the area in the tank.

Any comments friends? How can this be resolved? should there not be a safe hollow pipe or anything which replaces the air in the tank safely.?

i have not come across this for quite some time now. Next time i do come across it , i intend to open the tank and close if and restart the engine as soon as it stops. Any suggestions to prevent such happening though would be very much appreciated.
When the going gets tough.. The Beer gets Flowing... Cheers...

Good, that your bike's issue is getting resolved.
Atleast you got to the faulty part which will resolve the issue, I totally agree with the worst experience with this Apple Auto(Beside DG Petrol Bunk). During delivery of the bike, i felt they are not worth to be approached for any issues with the bike. Hence i use that showroom only when i need any spares provided am not able to get it anywhere else.

True, but the nature of my commute doesn't allow me to approach any other SVC without disrupting my schedule, and in this day and after buying a Suzuki product, a person should atleast have the privilege of getting good service because at the end of the day, we do pay for it. On the brighter side, it's better than some Honda and Hero Moto Corp service centers. I only hope companies start taking customer feedback seriously.

@theflyingvanar- There was a member who complained of a similar problem on this thread and got it resolved, please browse through the thread once.

The same happend to me sometime earlier when i got my bike. I reached 103 and the bike turns off. I have to wait for sometime to turn it on. This happend twice and the mode was in ECO. Once i reached 105 in PWR mode without the engine turning off.
I do not know if Mode is related with this but give a try.
Those were the only 3 times when i crossed 100 in the entire 16 months of ownership

                              • Hi Ppl,

Just bought my GS150r (black) from Siliguri on 14th Dec and drove to my place in Gangtok.. 125 kms of pure pleasure on hill road (sections of which were full of ouchs )... found the eco mode white flash very helpful for keeping a check on exceeding 4.5k rpm limit..
had cold start problem today (night temperatures are 4-5 degrees so guess its normal??)..
was a little disappointed by performance when riding up on a 60 degree straight slope where had to change gears from 3rd to 2nd as the engine didnt had any power left.
Would love to hear experiences, comments, suggestions from ppl who have experience of riding the bike.. especially those who have done in hilly terrains like Sikkim Himalayas...
                                Will post pictures soon..
                                Manish

                                PS: Couple of questions??
                                1. Is it fine to have a pillion rider now or should I resist till 750km are done??
                                2. Can I attach foglight to the bike (either by replacing the taillights or attaching new lights to the leggaurd) without destroying the warranty of battery and electrical wiring? has anyone done it and if yes which bulbs to go for (partof my beat area recieves very heavy fog)??
                                3. Can I replace my headlamp to a higher power without destroying warranty??
                                4. Any suggestions for good workshop for servicing in Gangtok (Siliguri is too far for servicing and I have got mobil oil & Filter from Suzuki showroom)??
